ORIGINAL: TJSweens After what is hopefully a championship, the off-season should be eventful. The CBA expires on October 31. There will be an expansion draft. Each team can protect 6 players and stand to lose 2 players. I'm not sure how this affects the Lynx, since I checked sportrac and found... ...Virtually every significant Lynx player is a UFA after the season. Unless I'm missing something (and I often do) UFA's don't get protected and the Lynx wouldn't lose anyone, assuming they can resign everyone after the draft and CBA are resolved. Finally, the Lynx have the second best odds of getting the top pick and guaranteed to be in the top 4 in the draft. That's a terrible deal for the expansion teams. In hockey expansion, whether it's the NHL or PWHL, the new teams are basically handed the keys to a division championship in their first season. Protecting 6 players is not a bad deal for expansion teams. The Valkaries made the playoffs right out of the gate with that set up. The problem is that the expansion year couldn’t have come at a worse time. All across the league, players have not signed contracts beyond this year due to the new CBA being negotiated. It's hard to have an expansion draft when each team only has a handful of players to protect.
