St. Paul paper is making the case for Lindsey Whalen as MVP. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_18769002?nclick_check=1

Tom Powers also wrote a piece on the game. My favorite part:

Lindsay Whalen got the Lynx off on the right foot. She scored six of the team's first 12 points and assisted on the other three buckets. That really gets the crowd going. Whalen is a local icon. She's sort of the Joe Mauer of the Lynx, except she plays a lot.

Ouch!

That is pretty funny [&:][&o]

Powers was at his sarcastic best. I loved the title: Among Twin Cities sports teams, Lynx are in a league of their own

This was good too :

With the Twins sucking the sunshine out of the summer, the thought of another lackluster effort at Target Field on Friday was too much to bear. Yes, the ballpark is beautiful. But this year's team is gross. Plus, you never know which players are going to sit out a ballgame with indigestion or maybe a fresh pimple.

Poor Twinkies :lol:

According to what I heard on the radio this morning, Mauer was asked to comment about his "perceived softness", and was "shocked". Apparently, he had no idea that folks were thinking about him in that way.

(sorry, I know that this is a Lynx forum, but I had to respond)

Minnyme -> Next up the Playoffs (8/28/2011 5:02:21 PM)

After a 72-61 win over the San Antonio Silver Starrs ....

The WNBA Western Conf Reg Season Champions are the Minnesota Lynx !
[sm=party0023.gif][sm=high5.gif]

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/28/2011 7:21:05 PM)

I was looking for a monkey off our back smiley! I'll settle for this one. [sm=beer.gif]

They out rebounded them 50-27. The Silver Stars have lost 10 of their last 12 games while the Lynx have won 10 of their last 12 games. When you see the rebounding stats, you can see why.

kgdabom -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/28/2011 10:58:03 PM)

Lynx just keep winning. I bet they end up playing Phoenix in the playoffs. They also play them last game of regular season. I think the Lynx have a little bit of a mental block in playing them. I think that is the final Hurdle for our team in becoming champions.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/29/2011 7:12:16 PM)

Wow. That would be a bummer if they should get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. That would be more than a bummer.

Minnyme -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/29/2011 9:34:47 PM)

Nah they will meet either San Antonio or LA in the first round. Those 2 are in a battle for the last playoff sport. Neither can beat the Lynx in a 3 gm series IMHO.

Phoenix & Seattle are fighting for home court in the 1st round. Personally I don't think the Lynx fear the Merc in at all. By the last game of the season I expect things will be wrapped up by then & that last game with Phx won't mean anything (at least for the Lynx) but for the bench players to get some extra PT. The Lynx can match the Mercury in scoring and are a better defensive team. I'm more worried about Seattle then Phoenix. I expect the Seatlle to beat Phoenix.

Of course I'm a homer but my thought/hope is the Lynx take down Seattle in 3.

I like how coach Reeve has approached the whole season. 1 game at a time. Take care of busniess and more on th the next. Reeve is coaching lots of talent but she has them buying into they way she wants them to play. They bought into her defensive system. They are 1 of the best defensive teams in the leauge when most "experts" at the start of the season questioned if this collection of players were cabable of "defending chairs". They've made the playoffs. They have the best record in the West. They're 3 gms short of wrapping up home court thru out the post season. They want to win a play-off series. And then another. And their final goal is to be WNBA Champs. If Reeve & staff and these players pull it off, it will have been the 'perfect' season. If they come up short I'll be disappointed but after 12 previous season, I'm enjoying every minuet of the journey they are on. They're a joy to watch [sm=beer.gif]

kgdabom -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/31/2011 7:15:31 PM)

When I said I think the Lynx will meet Phoenix in the playoffs I meant in the conference finals. Just understand that the playoffs come due to our inexperience we might tighten up and the Mercury and Storm are very experienced. I think we will win it all but it is not going to be easy.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Next up the Playoffs (8/31/2011 9:52:29 PM)

That was my mistake, and thank you for pointing that out.

Good news all.

David Levine -> RE: Big Day in Lynx Land (9/4/2011 5:51:49 PM)

Lynx win another going away. Got to rest the starters for much of the 4th.

At 25-7, they have the most wins in the entire WNBA by 5 and the fewest losses by 4.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Big Day in Lynx Land (9/4/2011 6:41:49 PM)

Ok. That is not disappointing. [;)]

SoMnFan -> RE: Big Day in Lynx Land (9/4/2011 7:30:28 PM)

Wow.
Love how they are embracing "being good".
An impressive run thru the league.
Rachel Blount had a great report on them on public TV the other night.
Talked about the perception of them and if they really are good or not, and why people are hesitant to jump on board.
She is very impressed with them. Will be fun to see how they handle playoff pressure.

So we swept the Player of the Month awards with 3 different players? That must be a first.

Minnyme -> Play-off Stuff (9/9/2011 5:48:46 PM)

The Lynx final game of the regular season at Phoenix will be televised locally - Sunday on FSN-North at 5pm
Starters will likely play some but the bench should get big mins.
Reported that Amber Harris missed Thursdays home final w/a concusion suffered earlier in the week. Hope she can shake it off for the play-offs.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the East, other then knowing who is in (Indy, CT, NY & ATL) things are still not clear who will play who. The regular season ends on Sunday. But things are set in the West.

It's a mistake to put playoff games on NBA TV. Not very many people get that.

Not many people will watch it no matter what channel it's on.

kgdabom -> RE: Play-off Stuff (9/11/2011 12:05:15 PM)

I think Lindsay Whalen is going to be the league MVP. MVP of the Lynx and the MVP of August for the league. The Lynx dominated the league this year and there is no other dominant candidate. What you all think.

DavidAOlson -> RE: Play-off Stuff (9/11/2011 3:36:21 PM)

If they go by best player on best team, it's hard to argue against Whalen.

And hey, more who wanted to watch would, given the opportunity [;)]

Actually this is by far the toughest year to pick a winner. From winning teams, along w/Whalen; Tina Charles w/CT Sun led the league in double/doubles; Angel McCoughtry w/ATL Dream and Temika Catchings of Ind Fever & Seimone Augustus has been in the mix as well. Should be interesting.

With a 27-7 record, only the 6th team in WNBA 15 yr history to finish a regular season w/27or more wins, I expect the Lynx will collect a few post season awards. But they are all about the ultimate prize, to be the last team standing in October. This team has been a ton of fun to watch so I hope they keep things rolling [sm=high5.gif]

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Lynx Play-off Stuff (9/12/2011 9:21:27 PM)

Maybe Augustus will steal votes from Whalen. The Lynx have been a team that could get game winning performances from different players, night in and night out. Brunson and Maya Moore have been big contributors, too.

TJSweens -> RE: Lynx Play-off Stuff (9/13/2011 8:34:56 AM)

I think the status of Lynx this year could hurt Whalen. There is the train of thought that is easy for a player to good when surrounded by that kind of talent. Some would say take her out of the lineup and you still have a good team. I say she makes a good team the title favorite. She is the straw that stirs the drink right now.
