Probably because Harding is back.

But Harding is a PG and Houston is a SF, isn't she?

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/27/2008 9:35:29 AM)

Jim good point but still with Harding getting minutes that means less minutes all around.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/27/2008 2:58:28 PM)

Yep it has a ripple affect. Quinn probably plays some minutes at the 2 and Wiggins probably plays some minutes at the 3 now as a result.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (7/12/2008 8:25:56 PM)

Hey I am finally watching a whole game of the Lynx. Augustus just went off in the third quarter. Augustus and Wiggins are just so obviously more skilled than any other Lynx player. Anosike is a mobile big and looked pretty good also but was overmatched in height by Snow of the Comets. If the Lynx could find a tall yet talented center I have to believe they could win this whole league. Of course teams are always looking for such a player. I forgot to mention Anna Deforge who looks really good as a three point shooting specialist.

Lynx have beat the Western conference leading San Antonio Siver Stars twice in the last couple of weeks and now have a 12 game winning streak against them at home. If the playoffs began right now the Lynx would not be in. They have a huge matchup against Los Angeles that will be on NBA TV Sunday. LA has a half game edge on the Lynx right now for the final western playoff spot. Game will be at Lynx.

LA will have some players on suspension, maybe this is the game that Lisa Leslie will serve hers.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/9/2009 3:44:50 PM)

The Lynx selected 4th and got Rene Montgomery from the Champs UCON. I have no idea hwo she could have fallen as she was rumored to go #1 overall

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/9/2009 5:08:23 PM)

The second 1st rounder is for 6'5" post player Quanitra Hollingsworth. They also take Rashad McCants' younger sister in the 2nd round and use their 3rd rounder for a homer pick in Emily Fox.

That's great

And after losing Olhde, Hollingsworth is a good pick

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/9/2009 8:37:40 PM)

Hollingsworth was a good get. Losing Ohlde was addition by subtraction IMO.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (4/11/2009 1:49:25 AM)

After researching the draft it appears that this one had several good prospects but no franchise types. Montgomery was considered one of five that could possibly go #1. Consensus is we got the best PG in the draft. Hollingsworth was a risky pick. She could have possibly lasted a long while later but is young athletic and tall which is a good combo. McCants will have a tough time making the team as the league will have 39 less jobs this year than last. McCants is supposed to be an explosive
scorer so who knows she might stick.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/5/2009 11:25:31 PM)

Lynx season starts tomorrow/Saturday night televised against the Sky. It will be very interesting to see how this new look team does. I really believe we can be one of the best teams in the league.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 10:26:49 AM)

Was losing their head coach just before the beginning of the season a setback for the team?  I can't imagine that will help.
This franchise has been a loser from day one.  It's interesting that only one player remains from only about two years ago, so I guess history doesn't matter too much.  Still, I won't believe it until I see it.  I would predict that the team makes the playoffs, but is not one the best teams in the league.  Perhaps they'll have something to build on, though.  Nevertheless, I hope that you're right kgdabom and not me.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 10:48:13 AM)

Zierden was one of Flip's trained monkeys and I have never had a high opinion of Flip. I remember him running Flip's basketball camps when my son and daughter were there. I was very unimpressed, so I don't think he is any great loss. Gillom has a long history of achievement as a player and is highly respected among WNBA players. The Lynx may actually have improved their coaching. As a team this is by far the most talented squad they have ever had. It's especially the first time they are tough and deep in the middle.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 11:58:54 AM)

Sweens absolutely agree the talent is there. How well they mesh will be the question. Also agree with you on the coaching situation. I checked the ESPN WNBA general board and all anybody could say was the Lynx got a good break with Zierdon quitting.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 7:30:15 PM)

End of first quarter report on Lynx opener against the Chicago Sky. The Lynx started the game disorganized and jittery and quickly fell behind 15-4. For those who don't know the Lynx coach quit three days before the season opener to join Flip Saunders staff. This is probably a good thing because Zierden was considered a poor coach. Slowly but surely they got their composure and proved to be much quicker than the Sky and by the end of the first Quarter the game was tied 21-21. Montgomery looked good on a three but was mostly organizing the offense. Hollingsworth looked pretty good out there as well. Hoping to see Rashanda McCants out on the court soon.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 7:32:40 PM)

Seimone Augustus is such a star. Start of the game she can't hit a shot but doesn't care keeps shooting and early second quarter has 15 points. She is quicker and smoother than anybody else on the court.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 8:00:40 PM)

Great first half. For those who have found Lynx boring in the past I hope you give them a look this year. They play a fun brand of basketball. Montgomery the rookie PG scored on a reverse layup on a breakaway and then closed out the first half running down the clock before sinking a three. Lynx lead at the half 56-45 and the only reason the game is that close is that the Sky were shooting the lights out. I don't know how the other teams will compare but the Lynx have this team way outclassed on the court.

Now don't screw up the second half and my look bad[:o].

DavidAOlson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 9:43:20 PM)

Well, they didn't screw up!

Last year's rookie class still amazes me. That is one impressive trio. And this year's Montgomery will be the starting PG soon, but my gut says they could use one more quality interior player.

You are probably right about the need for another interior player. Quanitra has potential but will need a couple years to meet it I think. Still Augustus and Wiggins are so skilled and Niki just does good things that other centers don't. The quickness and skill of these players with the addition of Montgomery will create a lot of turnovers from opponents and a lot of easy baskets for themselves. Not a perfect team but if you watched the game tonight you could see how overmatched the Sky was. It will be interesting to see what happens when they go against some of the better teams.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2009 11:33:24 PM)

If they can sustain that level of defense and up tempo play they will be a definite playoff team. They could still use a little more inside, but Quanitra will provide depth in that area and losing Olde was addition by subtraction.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/7/2009 10:17:40 AM)

Like last year, I was impressed with Houston's game. When she sat in the third, she was one tired  puppy.
