The upgrade in talent is quite obvious. Consecutive great drafts, adding a battle tested veteran PG like Kelly Miller along with shedding soft players like Ohlde and bad attitudes like Harding make this a whole different team.

We got thrashed by Seattle and my guess is they are the best team in the league. Wiggins had a very off game scoring and we shot almost no free throws as well as shooting poorly from the field. One good sign is Hollingsworth got some minutes with good numbers except 3-9 from the FT line.

We shot them. We just didn't hit them. We attempted 24 FTs compared to Seattle's 16. It was the 2nd most FTs we've attempted so far this year.

Good point. I guess I was looking at Augustus Houston and Wiggins having only 5 attempts combined. They made 4 of the 5. Our centers Anosike and Hollingsworth combined for 15 attempts making 5. I would hope to see the Lynx score 20 or more from the line every game.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/14/2009 10:55:02 PM)

The Storm lose to the Sky so now the Lynx are tied with Phoenix for the west lead. They play each other next.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/16/2009 11:18:41 PM)

Lynx win a thrilling nail biter with the Sacramento Monarchs. Many lead changes. Augustus takes command down the stretch scoring almost all the points. Augustus was 12-18 2-2 from three and 4-4 from the line 30 points total. Houston and Anosike good all around lines but both struggled with fouls. Wiggins had a terrible night shooting from the field 2-11 but was 4-4 from the line so she is still perfect from the line I believe 24-24 overall. Hollingsworth got more minutes than Montgomery.

After the first 2 games, this game on paper should not have been this close

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 11:17:20 AM)

Why? It was on Sacramento's home court. Blowing a team out on the road is pretty hard to do.

They were 1-4

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 11:36:31 AM)

That record includes 2 losses by 10 to the same Seattle team that smoked the Lynx by 17 and a split against a Mercury team that is 3-1. I don't see a big deal in the Lynx having to work hard for a close win against them on their own court. Especially as inexperienced as the Lynx are.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 5:37:00 PM)

Wiggins is still recovering from having a baby?  Is that why she's struggling so much?

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 9:21:26 PM)

No Candace Parker had a baby, not Candace Wiggins.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 9:34:41 PM)

It is looking like a high scoring game as expected against Phoenix. Phoenix leads 28-27 after one quarter. WNBA quarters are ten minutes so they are lighting it up early. Anosike had a monster first quarter.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/17/2009 10:51:57 PM)

Uh Oh looks like Augustus is injured. Hasn't played in the second half so far early in the fourth quarter right now.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/18/2009 3:16:49 PM)

It turns out that the Augustus injury happenned while taking an elbow from WNBA star Diana Taurasi. She fell and hurt her knee. Taurasi has a reputation for being a very dirty player.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/19/2009 12:10:44 PM)

Augustus is out for the year with a torn ACL.

Looks like Wiggins, Houston and some other young players will get the chance to step up and show what they can do.

As to Taurasi, I have watched her play several times and I don't think the dirty player comments are fair. She is hard nosed and not afraid of contact. She doesn't do the cheap crap like undercutting the way someone like Bruce Bowen does.

Pete M. -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/19/2009 1:21:56 PM)

Diana Taurasi is also one of the most hilarious people I've met. I practiced with and helped train the US Women's National Team during their training camp for the 2006 World Championships and I got to know her a little bit. She was a laugh a minute, always chirping and talking trash--just a really fun person to be around. Let's just say there were a few cracks flying around regarding the Duke-UCONN rivalry.

That is some bad news

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/19/2009 5:11:01 PM)

Is that one of those injuries that take more than one season to fully recover from?

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/19/2009 9:07:20 PM)

How cursed can we be. Al Jefferson last year and Augustus who was an MVP candidate now for the Lynx when it finally looked like they had a great team.

The ACL is pretty well a 1 year and you are fine deal now. This assumes of course that there were no other things like a second ligament or cartilage damaged. The microfracture knee injury is the one that can take 2 or 3 years to completely recover from.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/21/2009 8:34:15 AM)

Glad to hear that!  Maybe their younger players can develop this year and next year will be the year for the Lynx to be reckoned with.

This was supposed to be the year for the Lynx. This is really hard to take.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/28/2009 12:06:00 AM)

Nice payback win for the Lynx tonight.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/28/2009 12:17:50 PM)

Taurasi reminded me so much of Kobe last night. Not only as the leader of the team, but also the facial expressions after she thought she was fouled and didn't get the call
