I was also thinking of 50 cent

To this day .... It completely, totally, horrifically, amazes me ... That grown-ass people cannot throw a ball.
You don't grow up tossing a rock? Learning the motion?
I'm dead serious.
These so-called athletes like Carl Lewis? Some basketball players? Kevin Spacey?
It blows me away.
I have no idea how it's possible.

I used to play tennis and could hit a hundred mph serve before the big racquets and that meant something. I played some baseball and softball and didn't have enough arm for short or third but handled second base nicely. I am now 55 and all I could do to get a pitch from the mound to home plate is lob it. If I tried to throw one it would be in the dirt or the stands. So I say if they are older or baseball is not their game cut them some slack.

I saw her step up at the Channel 4 dunk tank at the State Fair when Don Shelby was in it. He looked like a drowned rat by the time Whalen was done throwing. She can definitely bring it.

I think nerves play a part, as well. You tighten up, and that messes with your mechanics.

Nope. Not cutting them any slack.

Your choice but I would guess about 95% of the general public can't throw a strike from a MLB pitching mound.

Since it is looking pretty obvious that Tricia Liston will not be playing any significant minutes for the Lynx should we look into trading her for future assets? Or does it make better sense to keep her around?

I don't see much trade value though another team might find some time for her. She may shake it and get some PT but who knows. Don't see anything on the front burner for now though.

As Augustus looks to shoot more, Lynx benefit

http://www.startribune.com/sports/lynx/262063581.html

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has a philosophy. To her, it is very, very difficult to find a bad Seimone Augustus shot. Whether it means shooting a jumper, driving off a crossover, hitting her patented floater or posting up a shorter guard, Reeve is almost always of the opinion that Augustus should shoot more.

“Matter of fact, it’s when she’s not assertive that we kind of jump on her a little bit,” Reeve said.

Phil Ervin of FSN with a nice read on our rookie post :

Game of Basketball not foreign to Lynx post Dantas :D

A locker room full of teammates willing to help her along helps. So do scouting reports in Portuguese and Google Translate, the same online application used to conduct an interview with Dantas for this story.

But for all the complications that come with battling a language and cultural blockade, her seemingly inexplicable understanding is simple, Dantas told FOXSportsNorth.com.

Hoops is a universal language.

Liston isn't getting any time even with Brunson and West still out. She could have some value to a team that isn't quite as loaded as the Lynx. Maybe we can find someone with a foreign player stashed that isn't available for a year or two. Something like that is what I am thinking about.

She's not the equal of Brunson but she is doing a fine job. Really excellent use of the draft pick to get her. Timing couldn't get better to have her ready to contribute.

My guess is she is a development project. As loaded as the Lynx are, they can afford to develop her for a year or two and see what they have. They aren't really going to get anything except another developing player. Liston is very good shooter from a good program. Might as well see what we have long term.

I think it would be foolish to trade our 1st round pick because she hasn't played much in the first 7 games on a veteran team.

Interview with Minnesota Lynx rookie Tricia Liston: On getting drafted & adjusting to life in the WNBA

quote:

That's the situation that Tricia Liston has found herself in. A star at Duke, Liston was drafted 12th overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2014 WNBA Draft. In her senior season at Duke Liston averaged 17.2 points per game while shooting 52% from the field and 48% from three-point range.

Liston has played a total of five minutes in two games this season as a member of the Lynx. That's all right with the Chicago native because she sees the big picture. Her skillset will be invaluable to Minnesota down the line. With a trio of players who command double-teams in Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen, and Seimone Augustus, a sharp shooter is exactly what the Lynx need on their roster.

When Brunson and Wright come back it is very doubtful that Liston can get any time. She has those amazing shooting numbers at Duke. I was just exploring the idea that maybe she could be useful right now to another team who might be willing to send the next Damira Dantas to us. Hopefully Tricia can develop into a valuable part of the Lynx rotation.

Its more likely that she's just not ready to play in the Pros yet. Not all college players can just hit the ground running. They obviously liked her enough in TC for her to make a loaded roster.

Patience.

Lynx crumbling in the 4th. 7 point lead is now a 3 point deficit with 4 minutes to go.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2014 10:43:38 PM)

Back up by 1. Under 3 to go.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2014 10:49:07 PM)

Lynx down 4 with just over a minute.

We've scored 17 points in the 2nd half. Worst I've seen them play in years.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2014 10:52:34 PM)

Down 3, 19 seconds left. Our ball.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (6/6/2014 10:57:23 PM)

And we lose.

Just a horrible 2nd half and embarrassing 4th quarter.
