Ed_Marotske -> Other NFL News (5/17/2016 8:37:46 AM)

I was poking around and saw there was nowhere to post about other stuff going around the league so I started this thread. If this is redundant then delete. If not, this is a place where we can discuss whats going around the league with other players.

Bills starting out the new NFL year with a couple of problems. I like Sammy Watkins...when he's not catching passes against our secondary....

See the Falcons new concession prices?
$2 soda water hotdogs popcorn pretzels with free soda refills
$3 nachos and waffle fries
$5 beer

That is sweet. Owner said this is not a one year promo either.

They think they can make just as much money overall and I think they're right. Four dogs and four beers would be $28. A group of four might buy twice as much product at the stadium vs waiting until after the game to re-fire the tailgate. The cost of the beer and hotdog to the stadium isn't even jackshit so why not pump quantity?

Heck at $2 I'll probably buy four pretzels on my way out and see if anyone in my group wants one. Would NEVER do that at the obscene gouge-y prices currently at Vike's games.

My family almost never buys anything at games anymore. We eat before and grab something after.

If the prices were reasonable I would get something.

Yep same here. When my kids are with they get to pick one thing. The adults that drink go on 'super-ration-mode' to minimize the $8.75 beers (which turn into $10 beers if you tip the guy lugging them around). I might buy something to eat if they have some kind of novelty item but mostly we just eat before and after. As a group of four you can save about $150 this way. PER GAME. That's gross.

Tim Cady -> RE: Other NFL News (5/17/2016 9:50:43 AM)

Belichick sounds like he is describing guys that are smaller but faster for their positions, in contrast Zimmer likes guys the are bigger(longer, taller) than traditional for their position. Will be interesting to see who's trend comes to fruition.

Makes me wonder....What positions would some of our Stud Players from the hallowed 70's play today and would there be anyone from yester-year who wouldn't make it in todays game?

Good piece. Yes there does seem to be some contrast, although we had Newman at safety and like many teams have DEs play DT on passing downs.

The key difference seems to be Belichick talking safety at LB while we go big/rangy at LB.

Tim Cady -> RE: Other NFL News (5/17/2016 9:36:57 PM)

Yes that was what I got out of it as well.

I think one of Belichick's best assets is his ability and willingness to adapt and be flexible regarding personnel. He really gets the best out of his players. I think Zimmer does that with defense, but we sure could use a guy with similar qualities running our offense.

Is Sam Bradford really worth all this hoopla? Seems self inflicted at that.

I know a lot of ....okay, may be not a lot...but Mettenberger was getting some play in here....Now he's off to the Chargers. Maybe this is a good fit, but the kid needs to be coached up???? Can Wisenhunt make something of this kid?

Bellichick is always strategic. Hard to believe he revealed as much as he did without having some angle in it. He probably wants to see the rest of the NFL go this way so he can go the other.

The talent collectors that go against the stream will always have an advantage over the herd.

NE has more traditionally valued size. He is probably just trying to send the rest of the league elsewhere.

For years, I'm always asked at meetings ... How can we up the attendance at HS events.
I try "offer beer" every time.
Hasn't worked yet. In fact it just gets ignored by now.

Brady refusing to give up the fight on his suspension.....

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/15674493/tom-brady-new-england-patriots-files-appeal-court-decision-upheld-four-game-suspension-deflategate

I'm kind of glad he's not just rolling over to the NFL on this. Other QBs have come out and stated they have manipulated air pressure in game balls and the NFL has yet to go after any of them...This seems to be all about 'going after' the Patriots and nothing else.

Lynn G. -> RE: Other NFL News (5/23/2016 9:45:09 AM)

It's not unusual in sports or life in general for one person to get punished for breaking the law (or league rule) even though others have done it before them. No court in the land will accept the "yeah, but other people do it too" defense when someone has been found committing a crime.

I've heard that argument before, but the thought that the league is somehow targeting the Patriots seems absurd when you think about how successful that team has been and how much it means to the league. If anything I'll bet they had tons of internal discussions about this, wondering how they were going to actually "prosecute" the golden child. But in the end they decided they had to show that even the golden child can't get away with cheating. They went easy on Belichik for the videos of other teams walk-throughs and they knew they couldn't look the other way again.
