Two University of Minnesota wrestlers have been arrested according to the Minneapolis Police Department. Robert Steveson confirms his 19 year old son, Gable Steveson along with 21 year old Dylan Martinez are the subjects of a criminal investigation. Both are listed on the Hennepin County Jail roster, being held on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. Both men are listed on the University of Minnesota's website as being a part of the wrestling team. According to jail records, the men were arrested Saturday night at different times and different locations in Minneapolis. Steveson was apprehended at a home on 26th Avenue Southest in the Como neighborhood of Minneapolis. Martinez was taken into custody at the home where he and other wrestlers lived on 14th Avenue Southeast. A 911 call about a possible criminal sexual conduct incident with an object, brought officers to the 14th Avenue address the previous evening on Friday at 8:40 PM. In a statement a University of Minnesota athletics department official said, "We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information. These students have been suspended from all team activity pending further information. Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time." Steveson family attorney Christa Groshek said that the family is very surprised by these allegations and the fact that Gable is in custody. She urges people to not rush to judgment as the situation is still unfolding and it is unclear if he will face charges. "He's a good kid, and a good athlete" she said. Steveson was a four-time state champion wrestler at Apple Valley High School and had finished his Freshman year at the U of M with a 35-2 record. He was the top-ranked heavyweight wrestler in the country by January of his Freshman year and his 30 consecutive wins is a top-15 consecutive wins streak in Golden Gopher history. Steveson also finished 3rd in the NCAA tournament for heavyweights this past year. Martinez came to the Gophers from Fresno City College in California and was redshirting his Sophomore year after being a two-time California community college champion.
