If the Vikings 3rd string offensive players [besides QB] were far superior to all the defenses they were facing,

And the Vikings starters on offense [besides QB] were very weak compared to all the defenses they were playing,

Then inserting the 3rd string QB to number 1 would likely lead to no improvement.

But if the 3rd string support wasn't all that great, and the 1st string offense had some great WRs, a great run game, and a good OL, but the 1st string QB was making slow decisions to make that OL look poor, then inserting that #3 to #1 could have a Nick Foles effect.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/7/2019 10:27:12 PM)

Watching Sloter pile up yards on third string defenses really fills you with visions of Super Bowls, eh? Serious, I can't believe you kept a straight face long enough to type that.

It wasn't just yards, it was points, and WINS.

If given the chance, I think Sloter will prove you Sweens, and others wrong.

I don't know why you can't see the similarities with Kyle Sloter and Kurt Warner :

1) both were undrafted.
2) Kyle and Kurt both start with a 'K', and both contain 4 letters.
3) Sloter and Warner both end in 'er', and both contain 6 letters.
4) Their middle names are Joseph and Eugene, which both have and 'e' and contain a j sound, and contain 6 letters.

I am sure there are many more similarities, I just don't have the time to research them all. [&:]

I am excited that Sloter has the chance to be the Vikings' #2 QB.

One of the best kept secrets of the 2017 draft, Kyle Sloter:

From Luke Inman off twitter:

Kyle Sloter Checklist

*Arm Strength
*Touch/Anticipation
*Accuracy
*Pocket Presence
*Accurately Throw on the Run
*Gunslinger Mentality

I think what it boils down to is that if Cousins goes down, we're screwed.

Yep, like most teams. $28 million on your QB will get you in that type of situation, I'm hoping that is why we are investing in his protection with a upgraded O-line and change away from a drop back offense. We'll see, but if he get's injured, the defense better be very good!

i had less than zero faith in siemian so from my perspective, we're better this year than last....

Check this out:

At 1:16, an excited Rhodes congratulates Sloter, maybe thinking, "Get this winner on the field as our starting QB, and I will finally stay healthy, and we will win the Super Bowl."

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/8/2019 1:34:39 AM)

Thank you David, case closed, let the Sloter begin [&:]

I think after the Vikings win the Super Bowl with Sloter as the starting QB, he'll look back at this year as where everything came together, things sort of merged when Kubiak arrived, and guys that were familiar with Sloter, and Sloter was familiar with some things that they liked to do.

Then Sloter got his chance to start after a freak injury to Cousins, and the rest was all history, ending in Sloter leading the Vikes to Super Bowl victory. [:-]

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/8/2019 1:37:14 AM)

An oldie but a goodie, even has Sloter hooking up with Vikings' new WR Jordan Taylor:

It's all coming together. [8D]

Vegas Odds of Vikings winning the Super Bowl
With Cousins at QB: 12-1
With Browning at QB: 100-1
With Sloter at QB: 1000-1.

If those were serious odds, I would gladly risk $100 bucks on Sloter for a $100,000 payout.

Me too, but I wouldn't risk a thousand for that $100,000 payoff. I will probably risk $20 on the Vikings with the idea that Cousins will lead the team all year.

I love that you enjoy yourself so much in here Marty.

Everyone needs an outlet from reality, and many of us find it here. You play it out well.

Seriously though Sloter is a definite outlier as a #2 QB especially for us.

All the measurables line up, young, strong/ accurate arm, very mobile.

BUT, all mean ZERO until the real bullets start flying.

Sloter cannot help that he was an afterthought in Denver, and was only allowed to play vs 3rd stringers (Which he tore up)

Vikings paid substantially more to lure Sloter to Minnesota, and keep him here.

Again Sloter can only play who they put in front of him, and once again he ripped them apart in his first action with the Vikes. Should at the very least be intriguing?

Sloter winning the #2 QB job is dispelling all the classic Talk Vikes classic complaints-

Draft OLine early- check
Speed at TE- check
Talented yet unproven #2 QB- check

I’m good...

It has nothing to do with what Cousins makes. It has to do with the dearth of QB talent in the league. And you are absolutely right, the QB isn't going to have much success when he drops back and the opposing pass rushers are already in the backfield waiting for him.

According to the NFLPA, the #Vikings have $793,804 of salary-cap room after signing draft choices last week. First-round pick Garrett Bradbury is in line for a 2019 cap number of $2.342 million, so they will need to create room.

You guys and gals are great !

If those were serious odds, I would gladly risk $100 bucks on Sloter for a $100,000 payout.

And then I would dissapointedly get a $10,000 payout from a casino, disappointed my math sucked so bad [was straight A math in High School, until intro to calculus], and be wishing I had put $1000 on the Vikings with the Sloter house.

I think we can subtract about 571K from the $2.342 million for the top 51 rule. It's at least ballpark. We need to clear right around a million to sign Bradbury.

Watched some Jake the snake Browning highlights on YouTube, Cousins might now be the THIRD best QB on the team:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkrOR14HYGo&feature=share

Might lack some arm strength, but seems to throw accurately.

That's a fun highlight reel and he seems to have very good touch on his passes. I always prefer game tape or film to highlights to see the good the bad and the ugly.

--- Will stay that way, unless Cousins wins a playoff game, Sloter has a poor performance, or Browning turns in an outstanding or horrible preseason game.
