There was some implied rumors as to why Griff went off the deep end...rumors where flying that it involved a teammate and Griff's significant other having an affair. So there was a reason for him going crazy. Hopefully it is all resolved.

Implied rumor? WTF is an implied rumor? [&:]

Jack Nicholson would say "Is there any other kind?" with a dismissive superior look on his face.

It was a rumor that I didn't sniff, and don't remember reading about in here. So it PROBABLY didn't happen.

Is there any other kind?

And Griff couldn't handle the truth...

#Vikings restructured the contract of linebacker Eric Kendricks, making salary cap room to sign first-round pick Garrett Bradbury today.

According to Courtney Cronin of ESPN, Vikes restructured Kendricks deal to make the space
Converted half of his base salary for this year (so about 4.5 mil) into a signing bonus.

We have about 3M in cap space.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/14/2019 1:49:00 PM)

Yay! Now we can use $7.6 million of cap space so an aging fan favorite can catch three passes for 27 yards and get tackled at the moment of first contact regardless of where the first down marker is and stunt the growth of a young, fast, talented, athletic and cheap tight end. All those trade offers though! Oh how I wonder what troves of treasure Rick must have turned down.

In the end the Vikings organization didn't have the balls to cut him. Enjoy mediocrity for another season Rick and Co.!

9-7 and miss the playoffs. Carve that in a rock.

I say implied as it wasn't reported as such in the paper but it was obvious....they implied a corner they have yet to resign as the culprit.

F*@k it. Bring Adrian Peterson back for $15 million while we're at it.

Wow, Keeping Rudolph ruins our whole season?

Seems odd that one player could have that much of an effect.

Some people get their minds all made up that one player is the problem.

We know what we have in Rudolph and if they used him better it wouldn't be as bad as you assume it is. Further, we don't know what we have with Irv Smith yet. And trading Rudolph (and just because he isn't Gronk doesn;t mean he isn't good) or cutting Rudolph (and let's just be clear on this one point. It isn't a lack of balls that they didn't cut him outright. It's a lack of stupidity. There are teams that would find Rudy Valuable. and you don't give up for nothing when you can get something for him)

Oh and one more thing. Just because they fixed the cap problem doesn't mean that there isn't still interest in trading him, but now the Vikings are in a far better position to negotiate with other teams because we don't HAVE to trade him.

One player? ONE PLAY can be the difference between a win and a loss. One play per game can be the difference of five wins or losses.

Use him better? He's been on the team since 2011. His skills are his skills. What on earth could they do to use him better? Send him deep and see if the O-line can block for the 14 seconds it takes him to get 30 yards downfield?

Imagine for just a moment, the difference in a the result of a play where Diggs runs a shallow crossing route from the weak side where in one instance Rudolph's defender is still right in position to make a play for a gain of four vs. Smith's defender being even just two yards deeper and on his heels. In the second scenario the defender doesn't even get a hand on Diggs and the play goes for 15 yards - FIRST DOWN!

All those little things add up to the difference between a 'pretty good' team and a great team.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/14/2019 2:33:41 PM)

I'm glad the team has more flexibility. I do hope they keep a little extra money under the cap in case of injuries. Perhaps they can trade Rudolph for a receiver.

My best guess, might be a little lower depending on Kendricks hit this year. We had about 750k in cap space. Bradbury counts 2.34 this year. Kendrick dropped us about 4.5M. Might be safer to say 2-3M.

You are putting way too much importance in the overall effect of Kyle Rudolph and you need to go back and look at the highlight reels of his catches. They aren't all as you describe. He did make many a first down for us. Had a big part in the Detroit victory with the hail mary catch (did it take him 14 seconds to get down there? I don't think so).

Look, I would like more out of the position too, but what you are actually desiring is Gronk level play. Rudy isn't Gronk but he's not as bad as you are making him out to be. It really seems like you've convinced yourself that Rudy is the source of all our problems and his departure would be a huge addition by subtraction. If that is the case then there really is nothing more for us to discuss.

His height, catch radius etc make him valuable especially in the redzone.

If he goes I will be like Oh, well. You will party like its 1999.

If he stays I will be like Oh, well. You very well may have a stroke.

Don't get so emotionally attached to the departure of one Kyle Rudolph. One player who is not a QB is not going to be the maker or breaker of our season.

I think they like what they have in Beebe and the draft picks etc. If they trade Rudy it will be for a 2020 draft pick or two.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/14/2019 3:28:06 PM)

If Rudolph goes David will just move to the next target. There will always be someone who has been here a bit and is making too much money.

That's Rudolph whistling in the background ... staring at his shoes ... trying to go unnoticed.

We were 8-7-1 last season with the 20th ranked offense. Two new starters on the O-line is enough to move the needle even further than 9-7? The Vikings don't even have so much as a Super Bowl appearance since the 70s. This isn't all because of blind, dumb luck. It has a lot to do with their choices. Keeping Rudolph, much like keeping AD too long, is a poor choice. Keeping Mike Priefer too long watching him go through kickers and punters year after year was a poor choice. Keeping Treadwell and putting him on the field game after game was a poor choice. Harvin was the only one they did correctly and traded him while he still had high perceived value.

I stand behind my opinions on all those players at the points in their careers that they were no longer a smart choice/value for the team.

I agree. I'm hoping Treadwell is one of our cuts this year.

I read that Rudolph was the #21 receiver in YAC per reception last year. There are approximately 100 TEs in the NFL. Reports of him not getting YAC seem to be exaggerated.

Your negativity regarding Rudy is mind blowing. He has done nothing, but good for the Vikings ever since being here.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/14/2019 3:53:44 PM)

I am all for keeping Rudolph. I think the non-cap arguments on the trade/get rid of him side are feeble. And have more to do with not liking the player than what helps the team. Which is to add or hold on to however many decent players we can.

That being said ... no need to despair ...

Next (or first) trade offer, he's certainly gone. If Smith tears it up this offseason, he's probably gone. A significant injury anywhere, he's probably gone.

I just about guarantee you that we will be running two TE sets this year and Rudy will be the every down TE while Morgan and Smith will split the 2nd TE snaps.

You mean #88 in YAC per reception? Even if you are talking strictly TE, there are 32 starting TE in the NFL.

Rudolph averaged 3.83 YAC per catch last year. George Kittle averaged 9.89. I don't know if there are only 20 players in between them or not. I'm going to guess yes as Rudolph ranked 74th in total YAC with 64 catches.

Pager -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/14/2019 4:22:16 PM)

TGS, what do you think the trade market is for Kyle?

8M is a lot to absorb at this point in the offseason for a 30 yo TE. Here is a list of teams with the cap space to accommodate (I left obvious teams off like Eagles, KC, that clearly don't need a TE):

Colts: 58M. Ebron and Doyle. You can cross them off the list.
Texans: 35M. #1 TE is Griffen, who I never heard of and he was a legal issue (public vandalism and intoxication). They drafted two TEs in 2018 and 1 in 2019 (Warring).
Raiders: 28M. Luke Wilson is their #1 TE. Decent in Seattle, did nothing as a Lion. Darren Waller is their youngish big play TE. Had some suspension issues.
NYJ: 28M. Herndon was a rookie last year and had 500 yds and 4 TDs. Probably not a destination for Kyle.
Titans: 26M. Delanie Walker was injured most of last season. Has a 6M contract and 6M cap hit. Getting long in the tooth, have some other options including Pruitt on the roster. Cross Titans off.
SEA: 26M. Dissly. 156 yards and 2 TDs as a rookie last year. That was accomplished in 4 games before a season ending knee injury. Reading up on him, sounds like SEA are high on him. Good blocking TE, underrated receiver.
Bills: 26M. Kroft. 400 yds and 7 TDs. 5M salary, 4M cap hit. Also drafted Dawson Knox in the 3rd round. Not a suitor imo.
MIA: 25M. Tanking this year. Cross them off.
Bengals: 22M. Uzomah signed a 3 yr deal; 3.5M and 6M dead cap. Had 400 pls yards and 3TDs. Resigned Eifert. A stud when healthy. Not health very often tho. Cross them off.

I see Texans depending on how they view their 3 recently drafted TEs and the Raiders. You could make an argument for SEA.

Again, I'm just not seeing a big market for teams to give up draft pick(s) AND taking on 8M in salary.
