I personally don't feel it is awkward at all. There is room on the Vikings for Multiple Talented TEs and even if Smith eventually becomes better than Rudy we still have a place for him on the team. As far as looking out for him that could easily be about helping him stay on the straight and narrow. Helping him find a good place to live and how to avoid the pitfalls of being young and wealthy.

What do you call a 2nd round draft choice? However, the outrage was justified. We needed more help. We could have easily used first and second round picks on OL.

I was unsure about that. I thought you were promoting him at 4 years 12 million each. $3 million would be a freaking bargain. As for Weatherly's size/speed ratio he is a verifiable freak.

I've been starting to dive deeper into the #Vikings roster. For me, three-tech DT, WR and iOL are a few position groups I'm excited to watch. The DL is an interesting battle. How much will young guys like Jalyn Holmes, Hercules Mata'afa, Armon Watts and Jaleel Johnson grow? (Daniel House on Twitter)

I exchanged tweets with Daniel House. He sees Mata'afa as a situational pass rusher. I believe the Vikings will experiment with him early on, but my hunch is that he will be all over the line on passing downs. (kind of like John Randle was at one point in his career) This was his response: Any time you have a player with that type of versatility, you can slide him to different techniques. Zimmer has talked about his quickness, which is a trait that allows him to rush from different spots. Now, let's see if he has the strength.

I'm all for balancing the cap and not overspending on D. Locking up talented young players before FA is a great way to do it. Griffin is a great example. If we can get Harris and Weatherly at friendly team deals, now is the time to do it. We're paying Hunter a fraction of what he'd be making on the open market. I agree with the point. You do have to pick your spots, gotta be willing to move on from guys like Joseph and Harrison. Locking up Harris and Weatherly frees us up in the draft to be picking the latters replacement instead of the formers - IMO

The Vikings are good at managing contracts and keeping players. I'm not hearing about the guaranteed money, but if Rudolph is signed with a lot of upfront or guaranteed money than the plan is to have a lot of 2 tight end formations and perhaps less of three receiver formations, especially on first and second downs and probably in the Red Zone, too.

Now get to camp and get to work, lots to work on! I'm liking what we have been seeing out of OTA's, but we need to get some pads on these boys to see what kind of team we really have!
