It doesn't bother me that we signed Rudolph. As a fairly firm supporter over the years it doesn't do anything to excite me either. Seems more about being nice and promoting culture and I think it was time to 'it's just a business' Kyle off the team this year. But it doesn't matter...I am 100% balls to the walls ready to ride the wave all the way through this year. One time saying it has to pay off. This doesn't feel rah rah to me...I think we have all the pieces.

I think what this means is the Vikings want to run two tight ends a lot. And that's maybe a good thing. I can see Cousins being very effective with it. With a (hopefully) bolstered O line, they can utilize Cook in the run or they can play action out of it and still have some talented receivers (Smith, Rudolph, Cook) out there on mismatched defenders.

I think you are correct.

I thought Rudy's next contract was going to be 3 years 18 million with 10 of it guaranteed. Oh well. If this deal has more than 10 million guaranteed beyond this year I am going to disappointed. We seem to go way overboard in keeping our own.

I'll reserve judgement until the details and especially the guaranteed money are revealed. At the moment it appears to be a true commitment to mediocrity, a classic case of 'try the same thing over and over and hope for different results'.

I am looking forward to next offseason when the Vikings either give Cousins an extension to get some cap relief for next season, or Cousins shows he is a team player and takes a Brady-like cut for the team.

If Cousins takes a paycut next offseason, and the Vikes go on to win the Super Bowl the 2020, the Vikes will probably be talked about as the model way to build a SB winner. Get your franchise QB, build him an OL, give him strong 2 TE packages, retain your players, franchise QB takes a little paycut so you can retain your own, and maybe add any final pieces.

This is the off-season where the team is all in on supporting Cousins the best they can. Rudolph has some strengths and weaknesses. The team knows what they have and will have to scheme with that in mind- taking advantage of his strengths and mitigating his weaknesses. So I turned pretty sour against Rudolph when his contract negotiations snagged. I almost always take the teams side on these issues because I want them to win more than I care about the fortunes of specific players. I always figure they have a lot of money already. Now that the situation has been resolved, I will do what I always do- root for the Vikings. Rudolph is a Viking and I hope he has a Super year.

You’re correct in that it gets spread over the life of the deal. If he gets cut it all hits at once though.

He would have no reason to do any of that. I would love it if he did...but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will even talk about restructure. The Vikings have NO leverage on that one. They can't cut him, the hit to the cap would be massive. They would only be able to trade him and where would that leave us? I have a feeling they draft a guy next year to replace him and let him walk after the 2020 season freeing up a big chunk of cap space. But we will see.
