What position is Kubiak interviewing for in Minnesota? Well, presumably, it isn’t the offensive coordinator job, as the team just brought back Kevin Stefanski following his flirtation with the Cleveland Browns. The team does have an opening for a quarterback coach with Stefanski taking over as the full-time OC, and Kubiak would be a pretty outstanding get at that spot. However, he’s likely going to have offensive coordinator openings to interview for, and it remains to be seen whether or not he’d turn down a job like that to coach quarterbacks for Mike Zimmer.

It’s news we certainly weren’t expecting to hear today, but it’s intriguing news in any case.

Packers and HC Matt LaFleur were denied permission to interview/hire younger brother, Mike LaFleur, the 49ers’ WR/passing-game specialist. 49ers told Packers, Browns and Vikings no on talking to Mike LaFleur. Also rejected interview requests on Mike McDaniel and Rich Scangarello.

Oddly mildly interesting/entertaining article about the chain gang... nepotism, paid by home team, etc http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25509360/everything-ever-wanted-know-crew-moves-chains-nfl

Jeff Allen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 3:07:22 PM)

I read that the Vikings did indeed retain Stefanski, but did not say he was the OC. Kubiak and Dennison would come in and be the OC and OL coaches.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 3:11:20 PM)

So why would Zimmer have a problem with Kubiak?

Is this just made up BS?

I am surprised Zimmer would want somebody with that pedigree on the staff, feel like coaching in waiting hovering over your shoulder.

He likely will take a pass and hope to be the Vikings head coach in 2020.

Zimmer probably doesn't have a say.

Sounds like an assistant HC /QB coach job with a chance to take over for a fired Zimmer if things don't start out well.

I was going to say the same, but I'm wondering why he would settle for that if he could get an offensive coordinator job elsewhere. We do have a connection with our offensive line coach being the offensive line coach for him with the Broncos.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 3:56:05 PM)

They're not hiring Kubiak if Zimmer has a problem with it ... come on

Zimmer has a track record of hiring former HC's

Norval
Shurmur
Sporano

Not a problem

This is now a done deal: Gary Kubiak is joining the #Vikings staff. Exact title TBD, but to reiterate, Kevin Stefanski is the OC. Stefanski knows Gary and is very tight with Kubiak’s son, Klint, who’s expected to return as QBs coach. A great match for everyone.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 4:44:57 PM)

What positions are still vacant

ST
Oline
QB

I've heard the title will be Assistant Head Coach/offense or something to that extent. I'm also hearing Rick Dennison (o-line) & Brian Pariani (TEs) are expected to go with Gary as well. Long-time friends/assistants

Vikings hiring former Broncos’ HC Gary Kubiak in an offensive advisory role, per a league source. Kubiak’s son, Klint, is expected to become Vikings’ QB coach and Kevin Stefanski will remain as Vikings’ OC.

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 4:54:55 PM)

Rick Dennison gets no love on many replies from those above tweets ...

I wouldn't know one way or another. However some coaches to have the power to bring people along with them - thus paving the road for their children, etc (not that there is anything about that that I wouldn't do)

Feel that heat, Zimmer?

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 5:04:04 PM)

Solid hires to re-amp the Offensive side of the ball and try and give new schemes and philosophy to try and get better out of Kirk than 2018 did...

Next lets start some positive moves on OL !

Mike Mayock as Raiders GM has talking heads speculating...

I doubt he's worried, but he should be feeling some heat.

He's entering the final year of his deal, there has (apparently) been no talk of an extension and we just brought in another ex-HC for an ambiguous new job.

Are we really referring to a fan rosterbating as "talking heads speculating"?

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 5:10:28 PM)

Feeling the heat? Zimmer needs a fire lit under his ass to get more passion out of his team across the board and some older, wiser seasoned coaching on the O side to tell him to stay in his lane and focus on the D that was not so impressive with all the talent and money there...

As a lame duck coach in his last year he is pretty powerless to complain or lobby for something different than what is directive from organization... Im sure he checked off on all, but what can he say anyways?

Making moves to be a different coached team in 2019, all for NO MORE TURTLE on O in 2019...

Granted that is a fan site, previous speculation of trades concerning Mayock/ Raiders and Vikes was on PFT couple days ago, though you can certainly call PFT whatever you want pertaining to journalism too...

Sure he should understand it's win or possibly be gone - but it blows my mind anyone should think he's worried about Kubiak. I'm sure he was all in on the hiring

And its such an absurd trade...I'm sure the Raiders would love to give us a 1st and 2nd round pick for 5 players with 1 year left on their contract that all had down and/or underperforming seasons last year...Because that's the kind of things 4 win teams generally do...

At least make it somewhat realistic - like us giving up actual value for a good O-lineman.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 5:53:58 PM)

I really like the Kubiak's hiring. Like it or not (and I agree with Ricky 100%, no way Zimmer has a problem with it) Zimmer only has 1 year left. If something catastrophic would happen and we need an in-season change, we have a guy that can take over and try and right the ship.

Burns -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 6:01:10 PM)

Interesting article about Dennison and Kubiak.

Not entirely sure what the beef with Dennison is about. I'll have to look around some more.

Kubiak as OC adviser + son as QB coach + possibly OL coach & TE coach.

Does the Gang of Kubiak have a worthy track record?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/14/2019 6:03:41 PM)

Undrafted and unknown Phillip Lindsey, all of 5' 8", went for 1037 yds at 5.4 ypc for the Broncos last year.

I was wondering why he would come here. I think I know, now- because he could bring his son and some of his posse with him.
