Incredibly impressed by the #Vikings o-line performance at Detroit.

Riley Reiff worked his ass off against his former team. Great game by 71.

Garrett Bradbury & Pat Elflein continued to improve while Josh Kline & Brian O’Neill balled.

The front 5 is getting stronger as a unit.

I made the comment a few days ago that Paul Charchian thought going into the season that the offensive line would struggle early, but get better as the season progresses. That looks like it was right on the mark.

Is there anyone who didn't see that likelihood? [sm=scratch.gif]

At the time I thought we dodged a bullet, but looking at it again it does look like the right call was made.

He got mugged. Definitely the right call.

I think Lions fans were acting like little kids. You don't get every call and non call just because you got hosed last week.

Looked to me like the refs decided to give Lions the 1st quarter, then they were like "it's up to you Lions from here on out"

I don't think the fans helped themselves with all the ref shirts and silly stuff.

Patterson with a KO return TD [:-]

I think he's near the all-time career KO TD return record?

EDIT: Patterson (7) is one behind Josh Cribbs (8) and Leon Washington (8)

Extra impressive considering he is playing in the disadvantaged KO return era.

Yeah, that’s right. NO ONE IN NFL HISTORY has done what Kirk Cousins has done the last three weeks. Look, a month ago damn near EVERYONE wanted to trade or cut him and today he is a darkhorse MVP candidate. That may piss you off to read if you’re still in love with Teddy Bridgewater, or that may make you laugh because you still carry a torch for Case Keenum, but deep down, I’m right. And you know I’m right, and your only response is about to be...

BUT RAWR RAWR WHO HAS HE DONE THAT AGAINST RAWR RAWR

...and now I tell you this—just shut up if you are one of those rawr rawr people. I will just assume you are a miserable person and are unable to enjoy when the Vikings are playing really good football because it’s with players you didn’t want to succeed, and you’re going to be shitty because your shitty opinion is wrong. Fine, free country and all, but go be shitty elsewhere, man. Let the rest of us enjoy this.

Also, you probably don’t like chocolate, or puppies. Or beer. Which makes you a communinst.

Sums it up for me.

Cousins has been simply amazing! His passes are reminding me of when Bradford got hot in week 1 against the saints a few years ago. Except hes doing it for 12 straight quarters! Props to Cousins for stepping up like a madman!

I thought they would be better coming out of the gate. I bet there are many who bailed on them when they struggled early.

It is a sign of good coaching when you see players getting better. Our team still has a chance to be Super. We have yet to beat a good team on the road, though. Eventually we will have to that.

The Lions have been strong this season. They easily could have been undefeated coming into this game. Stafford was on today but the offense simply couldn't be stopped. 2 punts and 1 missed FG (that should have been a TD), the other meaningful drives all TDs! Kirk made some incredible throws, he's been very decisive the past 3 weeks, his eye level has remained down field, unlike the Bears game where he was constantly distracted where the pressure was coming.

I wonder what Cook's yards after contact were? Felt like it was around 100 yds.

The emergence of Irv Smith can really make this group frightening. I will add that Rudy's 2 best games in the past 2 seasons have come in Detroit.

Great job by Bisi, some big shoes to fill but he came up with some clutch plays.

The D was worrying, but they did make some key plays, the 4th down stop and Hunter's sack.

Rhodes is worrying, but I will add several of those plays were difficult to defend. If Rhodes gets flagged early he seems to struggle.

Kirk Cousins, who passed for 306 yards with a 138.6 passer rating in Week 5 and had 333 passing yards and a 138.4 rating in Week 6, is the first quarterback to record at least 300 passing yards and a passer rating of 135 or higher in three consecutive games in NFL history.

Wow!

Hey CPA, funny how all the great QBs to ever play the game not once did anyone of them ever play three teams bad enough, as we just did, to put up three 135s, huh?

I have been one of Cousins supporters on here. I was asking others to use patience after the Bears game.

OL is key - clean pocket and he'll throw those "dimes" if not, well ... we'll see

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 7:45:06 AM)

If you rewatch the Diggs supposed drop in the end zone---he almost quit on his route and then tried to catch up again.

thebigo -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 7:55:19 AM)

I wonder if Zimmer still thinks barr is the smartest player he's ever had?

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 7:55:29 AM)

Eric Thompson
@eric_j_thompson
The #Vikings have allowed a grand total of three sacks and 16 pressures over the past three games.

They allowed six sacks and 21 pressures in Week 4 alone.

The offensive line deserves a TON of credit for the current three-game win streak.

jbusse -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 7:56:15 AM)

Some stats I find interesting:

Vikings are 6th in total offense and 6th in total defense (yards per game).
Kirk #1 via the traditional QB rating at 114.3.
Diggs averaging 18.7 yards per reception.
Cook #1 in rushing yards, averaging 5.5 yards per.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 7:56:54 AM)

My $0.02:

Mondays are always better after a win!

It's tough to win on the road - so I will take this road win!

Great game by the offense. They really played well as a unit today.

Loved seeing the TE more involved in the passing game. Rudy and Irv made some clutch catches!

The TD by Thielen was awesome!

Cook is a stud. Great balance, speed and power.

OL played well.

DL play was above average, but not great. Need to get more pass rush.

The stop by the defense after the drop by Diggs and missed FG was huge. It was only a 4-point game at that point.

Some miscommunication in the back 7 on defense - and Stafford took advantage. Some great play by their WR.

Gave up 21 in the first half - 9 in the 2nd. And part of that was in "prevent mode".

Loved the playcalling. The pass to Diggs at the end was HUGE. Wanted him to protect the ball better though, especially after his fumble earlier.

The fans were idiots. The refs were calling PI tight and consistent. The call on the play with Bisi was the right call.

Cook had the quetist 142 yds rushing I've ever seen.

Both Waynes and Rhodes took turns getting torched by Jones.

Not sure if that boot leg left and Cousins going deep down the right side to Rudolph was funny or pathetic.

Maybe educational in that it could be a keeper if they learn to run it with Irv Smith Jr.

Looked like Rudy got away with one grabbing the defender cuz he had the speed to go get it.

But agree Irv should be running that route and it might have had a different result.

I was defending Rudy pregame in here. But the guy should not be getting paid as an elite TE when he is that flat footed.

On Twitter:
@ArifHasanNFL: I was wrong! He only had 96 yards after contact, constituting 67.6% of his total rushing yards (142, which doesn't feel right but is what the stat sheet says)

https://twitter.com/ArifHasanNFL/status/1186068285055483904

Other interesting stats from twitter:

@Eric_L_Smith: #Vikings offense has racked up 1,440 total yards in past 3 games.

What is this, 1998?

No, because as far as I can tell, the historic '98 offense never did that. Their best 3-game stretch was 1,349 yards.

#SKOL

The whole secondary allowed a lot of room for receivers to run yesterday. In the end, they made just enough plays.

I hope that Adam Thielen's injury is limited to a strain and probably best that he not play this Thursday vs. Washington on a very short rest week. But it does force the offense to utilize other weapons and we saw some of that yesterday especially in the second half. Diggs has to hold on to those TD passes. That was a well thrown ball that he should have caught. The good thing was the Vikings did not allow that failure to set them back.

TE's finally getting some targets.

I think mainly cuz Theilen was out. Not alot of sense to throw to TE's when you have 2 extremely dangerous wr weapons.

All in all though I think it was the next step in the maturation of the offense.

Jones when healthy is more dangerous. He is never healthy though.
