Kirk Cousins, who passed for 306 yards with a 138.6 passer rating in Week 5 and had 333 passing yards and a 138.4 rating in Week 6, is the first quarterback to record at least 300 passing yards and a passer rating of 135 or higher in three consecutive games in NFL history.

Wow!

Hey CPA, funny how all the great QBs to ever play the game not once did anyone of them ever play three teams bad enough, as we just did, to put up three 135s, huh?

I have been one of Cousins supporters on here. I was asking others to use patience after the Bears game.

OL is key - clean pocket and he'll throw those "dimes" if not, well ... we'll see

I hope that Adam Thielen's injury is limited to a strain and probably best that he not play this Thursday vs. Washington on a very short rest week. But it does force the offense to utilize other weapons and we saw some of that yesterday especially in the second half. Diggs has to hold on to those TD passes. That was a well thrown ball that he should have caught. The good thing was the Vikings did not allow that failure to set them back.

If Rhodes really is dealing with a hip issue, I would sit him Thursday also.

I don't think there is any question Rhodes is struggling due to the hip.

Resting him sounds like a good call.

Maybe we should just play our JV. Sure hate to lose this rhythm we're in , though (on offense)

The #Vikings have allowed a grand total of three sacks and 16 pressures over the past three games.

They allowed six sacks and 21 pressures in Week 4 alone.

The offensive line deserves a TON of credit for the current three-game win streak.

Absolutely. If we're playing with last year's line's performance we ain't talking about how well Kirk is performing - imo

Actually to sit Rhodes I'm unsure who would be the 4th guy off the bench. Boyd?

I'm just thinking long term. it would be nice to get Rhodes healthy when we come out of the bye with the tough stretch in our schedule hitting us.

Long conversions in back to back games. Against the Eagles it was 3rd and 18, if I remember right. Against Detroit, 3rd and 17.

Both dead in the middle of the field.

It should be called out and needs to be fixed.

To our credit, they were 2 yards short on the 3rd and 17 and we held them on 4th down.

At this stage the only thing that can hold this team back is Zimmer himself.

This defense is more suited as an aggressor than laying back in the weeds which seems to be what Zim is made of.

At least Kubiak/Stef told Zim to F off and are attacking. Zim needs to get on board with this mantra defensively.

??

The Vikings are built to not have to blitz---Rhodes and Waynes man to man and attacking DE's. If Rhodes and Waynes can't cover you can't mix in blitzes. On top of that the Lions used 2-3 TEs to help block. I remember the sack Hunter got he was double teamed by two TE.

I think we blitzed a fair amount. DET picked them up pretty well for the most part.

I'll give Griffen a pass on his hit to the head on last drive of half. LT had him in some kind of Bakhtiari hold and his hand accidentally went into Stafford's head.

Barr has no excuse. All that time to size him up and goes for the head.

Zim has always blitzed. I think it was the Eagles DC who called Zimmer "the Godfather of the double A gap blitz". With that said, Zim has also always emphasized getting pressure without having to blitz. The idea is blitz when he wants to blitz and not because he has to blitz.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 11:23:52 AM)

#Vikings allowed 10 pressures on 36 dropbacks per PFF. Elflein had 4, everyone else had 1 or 0. That’s about as clean as she gets.

Marvin Jones Jr. 2 Yd pass from Matthew Stafford (Two-Point Pass Conversion Failed)
10 plays, 75 yards, 2:35

This one brought the score to 35-30 in the fourth quarter. Unacceptable. For all of Zimmer's positives this drive is the perfect example of Zimmer's biggest weakness. He freezes up in the biggest moments. 3rd and 17 and he rushes 3 and sits everyone else back in a prevent-style zone. It brought back memories of the Saints 3rd-and-long in the playoffs in 2017. He doesn't learn from his past.

I mean seriously - 10 playes, 75 yards, 2:25?!?!?!

Agree. Also, giving up that TD with 6 sec to go before halftime didn't help either.

I believe that drive was aided by a roughing the passer call on Barr. not Zim's fault here but he gets to passive way to often on his schemes.

It would be SO much better if the opposition would quit trying to win when they are playing us, the way we are playing you would think that other teams have access to quality NFL players, coaching staffs, money to pay those players so we can't sign them on the cheap etc. In short you would think that there was a level playing field where the Vikings don't have all the advantages.

In the ebb and flow of the NFL from season to season there are times when the team we root for will have decidedly better talent than most of the opposition. This is one of those times. During these times it's imperative that the least amount of mistakes reasonably made are made. In this website we discus the team we root for and talk about what happened in the game and what could be improved. You sir, who I've always admired and still do, are starting to become a troll. Is there anything I can do to help?

Point being, shit happens, the day after we put the worst loss of the season on a team in their house, all we read about is panicked discussion about a defense (that has been consistently top 5-10 in the league under Zimmer for the better part of a decade now) that played badly in ONE STINKING GAME, I would say the trolls are the folks who continuously harp about how shitty and overmatched our coaching staff still is Zimmer in particular (you know the Zimmer with the .603 winning % 5th among active coaches with 30 or more wins). Three weeks ago it was also Rick Spielman should be fired because, well I guess because he doesn't provide a talented roster, Cousins signing, who knows why. 3 weeks later we've got the best roster in the league, our coaching staff is holding us back. The incessant whining on these boards is hard to take, clearly there is a significant presence on these boards that revel in it.

DTs not getting to QB.

Do you just let Hercules and Odenigbo keep developing our do you make a trade? Atkins(Cincy) has an 11M base salary so we would have to get creative.

Rhodes and a 4th to Philly
Philly sends a 3rd to Cincy
We get Atkins.

Edit: This probably doesn't work. Too much dead cap from jettisoning Rhodes.

Wild stat
How about this one:

Last 3 games, when Minn calls a run play, and then, the very next play calls a play action pass, Cousins’ avgs:
19 yards per pass

THATS INSANE run to pass impact

SteveR -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 11:31:04 AM)

The Lions game was one of my "radio" games. I had to work, so I had to listen to it when possible. It sounds like it went pretty well.

Now we get an "easy" team for prime-time and can hopefully get to 6-2 at the halfway point. That's pretty good. Then see how the variables affect us and other teams down stretch. For example, we will probably get the Chiefs minus Mahomes. The Cowboys are Jeckle and Hyde. Heck, Green Bay might end up being the strongest team we play this side of the playoffs, if such things happen.

Then Bridgewater will 41-0 us in the playoffs or something. That would be amusing.

Danielle Hunter pressures (PFF), by year:

2015: 37 pressures
2016: 55
2017: 68
2018: 67
2019: 49 <— in 7 games

Hunter is on pace for 112 pressures through 16 games.

Aaron Donald last year had 106 pressures.
JJ Watt has the PFF era record, 119 pressures in 2015.

You are reading it wrong....yes they blitz but not every down and the defense is built to pressure w/o blitzing.

Zero titles. Zero Super Bowl appearances. One miracle win in the playoffs. Eventually we have to play the best of the NFL in the playoffs. All the little details matter.

Regular season wins are good enough for some people - even if they don't lead to the playoffs.

We have 2 playoff appearances and 1 playoff win in 5 years.

Brad Childress had 2 playoff appearances and 1 playoff win in 4 years.
