Kirk Cousins, who passed for 306 yards with a 138.6 passer rating in Week 5 and had 333 passing yards and a 138.4 rating in Week 6, is the first quarterback to record at least 300 passing yards and a passer rating of 135 or higher in three consecutive games in NFL history.

Wow!

Hey CPA, funny how all the great QBs to ever play the game not once did anyone of them ever play three teams bad enough, as we just did, to put up three 135s, huh?

I have been one of Cousins supporters on here. I was asking others to use patience after the Bears game.

OL is key - clean pocket and he'll throw those "dimes" if not, well ... we'll see

I hope that Adam Thielen's injury is limited to a strain and probably best that he not play this Thursday vs. Washington on a very short rest week. But it does force the offense to utilize other weapons and we saw some of that yesterday especially in the second half. Diggs has to hold on to those TD passes. That was a well thrown ball that he should have caught. The good thing was the Vikings did not allow that failure to set them back.

If Rhodes really is dealing with a hip issue, I would sit him Thursday also.

If you rewatch the Diggs supposed drop in the end zone---he almost quit on his route and then tried to catch up again.

The defender also grabbed (or hacked on) one of Diggs arms which IMO didn't allow Diggs to get his arms up (or at least that arm) in coordination otherwise Diggs most likely makes that catch. That said, I think that is a catch Thielen still makes given the exact same PI circumstances.

At the time I thought we dodged a bullet, but looking at it again it does look like the right call was made.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1185977909753864192

He got mugged. Definitely the right call.

I think Lions fans were acting like little kids. You don't get every call and non call just because you got hosed last week.

Looked to me like the refs decided to give Lions the 1st quarter, then they were like "it's up to you Lions from here on out"

I don't think the fans helped themselves with all the ref shirts and silly stuff.

Did you see the one rabid fan who was spittle-ing tobacco juice all over the fans in front of him? I guess everybody gets their 15 minutes of fame.

Anyone know who or how we shut down Golliday?

Both Waynes and Rhodes took turns getting torched by Jones.

The whole secondary allowed a lot of room for receivers to run yesterday. In the end, they made just enough plays.

Just trying to get my arms around why Golliday was nonexistent while Jones and Amendello were running free all afternoon.

Jones when healthy is more dangerous. He is never healthy though.

To Bill's point, I don't know how it worked out that way. According to Waynes, there was no focus on taking away Golliday and forcing someone else to beat them. It just worked out that way.

Incredibly impressed by the #Vikings o-line performance at Detroit.

Riley Reiff worked his ass off against his former team. Great game by 71.

Garrett Bradbury & Pat Elflein continued to improve while Josh Kline & Brian O’Neill balled.

The front 5 is getting stronger as a unit.

(Sean Borman on Twitter)

I made the comment a few days ago that Paul Charchian thought going into the season that the offensive line would struggle early, but get better as the season progresses. That looks like it was right on the mark.

Is there anyone who didn't see that likelihood? [sm=scratch.gif]

I thought they would be better coming out of the gate. I bet there are many who bailed on them when they struggled early.

It is a sign of good coaching when you see players getting better. Our team still has a chance to be Super. We have yet to beat a good team on the road, though. Eventually we will have to that.

Maybe I should rephrase that, is there any KNOWLEDGEABLE fans who didn't see that likelihood? I also thought they would be better out of the gate, or at least wouldn't be a train wreck (Kline and Elflein struggling with nagging injuries contributed to that), but considering 3 new starters in the interior and a new blocking scheme and a rookie center, it seemed likely they wouldn't be rounding into form until about mid season (AKA now).

I don't think there is any question Rhodes is struggling due to the hip.

Resting him sounds like a good call.

Improvement from the beginning to the middle/end of season didn't materialize during other recent seasons, so there was certainly reason for skepticism.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 10:17:17 AM)

At this stage the only thing that can hold this team back is Zimmer himself.

This defense is more suited as an aggressor than laying back in the weeds which seems to be what Zim is made of.

At least Kubiak/Stef told Zim to F off and are attacking. Zim needs to get on board with this mantra defensively.

??

The Vikings are built to not have to blitz---Rhodes and Waynes man to man and attacking DE's. If Rhodes and Waynes can't cover you can't mix in blitzes. On top of that the Lions used 2-3 TEs to help block. I remember the sack Hunter got he was double teamed by two TE.

Marvin Jones Jr. 2 Yd pass from Matthew Stafford (Two-Point Pass Conversion Failed)
10 plays, 75 yards, 2:35

This one brought the score to 35-30 in the fourth quarter. Unacceptable. For all of Zimmer's positives this drive is the perfect example of Zimmer's biggest weakness. He freezes up in the biggest moments. 3rd and 17 and he rushes 3 and sits everyone else back in a prevent-style zone. It brought back memories of the Saints 3rd-and-long in the playoffs in 2017. He doesn't learn from his past.

I mean seriously - 10 playes, 75 yards, 2:25?!?!?!

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 10:35:22 AM)

The Defense did not play well but Detroit is a very good offense and Oline.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/21/2019 10:44:33 AM)

I think the defensive issues had more to do with execution than scheme. From what I could glean from the replays, the communication in coverage was not very good.

To be a great defense, you have to at least slow down good offenses.

Dominating bad offenses is nice, but its not getting you far.

Agree. Also, giving up that TD with 6 sec to go before halftime didn't help either.

I believe that drive was aided by a roughing the passer call on Barr. not Zim's fault here but he gets to passive way to often on his schemes.

From what I've seen reasons not needed for skepticism. Today we got people ready to jump because of our defense.

Which is inexcusable for a secondary that has been together so long.

Smith, Rhodes, Waynes and Harris are in their 5th year of playing together. Mac in his 4th with the group.

I am not disagreeing with you one bit....our strength is supposed to be our corners and they haven't produced. Rhodes hasn't played well after shutting down Jones.

Same goes for the linebackers. It seemed like there were always gaps in the hand offs in coverage. Either the first defender would break off coverage too soon or the second guy was late to pick up the receiver. It created a lot of running room for Detroit receivers.

It would be SO much better if the opposition would quit trying to win when they are playing us, the way we are playing you would think that other teams have access to quality NFL players, coaching staffs, money to pay those players so we can't sign them on the cheap etc. In short you would think that there was a level playing field where the Vikings don't have all the advantages.

Long conversions in back to back games. Against the Eagles it was 3rd and 18, if I remember right. Against Detroit, 3rd and 17.

Both dead in the middle of the field.

It should be called out and needs to be fixed.

On to the pile of bodies from previous weeks/catastrophic circumstances "we" find ourselves in week in, week out. Even in the middle of a 4 game win streak.

In the ebb and flow of the NFL from season to season there are times when the team we root for will have decidedly better talent than most of the opposition. This is one of those times. During these times it's imperative that the least amount of mistakes reasonably made are made. In this website we discus the team we root for and talk about what happened in the game and what could be improved. You sir, who I've always admired and still do, are starting to become a troll. Is there anything I can do to help?
