I know it won't be a popular thought here, but with Cook is coming up for free agency, and with his injury history, do we really want to spend serious dollars on him? Especially with the tight salary cap? How much is he worth, considering his injuries?

I love Cook, but I'm worried about his durability. If he misses Monday Night, he will still have not played a complete season.

I think that is a good question.

He was absolutely fantastic for a big portion of the season, but the position, and especially how he plays it, is probably not worth a big cap hit.

David Johnson may have become the Cardinals third best RB this year. Who would have thought that two years ago?

We need WR's. We paid a lot of money for our QB. The least we could do is have more than two NFL caliber WR's for him to throw the ball at.

We bring back Treadwell, and our other brilliant move to bolster the position was to acquire another first round bust, Doctson. Have we actually given up on scouting the WR position? We just acquire and hold on to first round failures?

Back to your point, I think it's a tough call. I was luke warm on the pick. He won me over. I love the way he plays. Unfortunately, the way he plays may not be conducive to a long career, or worthy of a big contract.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 5:44:45 AM)

When he's healthy he might be the best running back in the league. He has been good with the screen passes, too. I do hope he gets healthy for the playoffs.

As far as the next contract, I agree with you guys. I would want to keep him, but I wouldn't pay high dollars when it seems that it's a position that can be fixed so easily with another draft pick. Look at Mattison. He's good enough to be a starter and so is Boone.

As far as acquiring wide receivers in the draft, I still maintain that we need to continue to acquire talented offensive linemen more than any other position.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 6:15:37 AM)

Mike Boone is arguably our most athletic running back.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 8:10:02 AM)

I think Boone will do just fine.

Cook needs to sit. He has been a liability for the last month.

If Cook, Mattison, and Boone all wore the same number it would be hard to tell them apart.

Kubiak's system is RB friendly. He has turned low rd picks and UDFA's into stars and HOF'rs

While I like Cook. His durability just isn't good enough to merit re-signing.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 10:53:00 AM)

Have to let Cook go and then move Mattison into the starting spot. RBs drafted in the third round are starters. Keep Boone as a backup and draft another in the mid to late rounds. RBs are a dime-a-dozen.

joejitsu -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 11:11:30 AM)

I would hate to see Cook go, but it might be in our best interest to let him go, save the money, and start Mattison next year. Running backs get beat up fast.

Isn't he on his rookie deal thru 2020?

You're right. I had a brain cramp.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 9:20:22 PM)

I'm reading that Mattison was at practice today testing his ankle. He was officially listed as limited.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/21/2019 9:58:21 PM)

Coming down the stretch the Niners Rams game is still uncertain. My mind says go Rams, but my emotions are with the Niners We'll know soon if the Vikings clinch a playoff berth, or not.

I was calculating what would happen if it came down to a tie (that would have been the best) but it is what it is. It takes out the urgency in the Packers game, which means don't play Mattison or anyone else who isn't totally healthy.

I think he's going to need some shoulder surgery in the off-season. I would like see what he looks like after that. I remember people giving up on Robert Smith after all his injuries. Then he started to look like OJ Simpson in his prime before he abruptly retired.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/22/2019 12:15:21 AM)

This service rates the Vikings as the second best team in the NFC. They say our chances to win the Super Bowl are 5-6%. There's still a chance. Just a chance, I'll take it, now.

I wonder what it would cost us in draft capital to get Parker from Miami. A 2nd round pick perhaps? I think he would be worth it.

We are still fighting for the division title. If we win this week the Pack beating Detroit next week is not guaranteed. To me it's a losers mentality to not give it our best shot this week.

Sitting players that aren't 100% healthy is a losers mentality? [&o]

Sitting players that are 99% healthy or less is a judgment call. Saying there is no urgency to the game against the Pukers is a losers mentality. That game is very urgent.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/22/2019 1:17:56 PM)

I think I'd sit both Cook and Mattison tomorrow night and possibly week 17 as well.

I think a healthy Boone might prove to be more than good enough to carry the work load these final couple games.

If they aren't healthy enough to go of course they sit. If they are healthy enough to go they should play. Not rocket science. We of course rushed Thielen back with devastating results.

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/22/2019 4:50:44 PM)

Don't sleep on Abdullah...he can hit the homerun from any spot on the field...

I sure hope the Pack is sleeping on him, though, as he will see plenty of snaps too!

We still have two legit RB's without our top 2

I just don't get the hate for AA

Fumble machine, and still waiting on the big plays.

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/22/2019 5:09:00 PM)

he doesn't get too many touches...

he will get some this week...

I'm just not writing him off as so many here seem to have.

just weird to me to not be all in on all our guys...
