Oh, and I want new blood at the top. Spielman, HC, clean 'em out, Wilfs. It's time for younger, more creative folks to take over in MN. Too much fossilization goin' on around here the past couple of decades.

Shucks. That reminded me of the Bears game last year.

Bears game last year, Patriots game last year, Bears game this year. It's getting frustrating. I can see why lots of folks have tapped out on this team and don't come in here like they used to. I've only been watching them since 87. I don't know how some of you more seasoned fans do it!

Its the un-healthiest relationship some of us have.
She's been cheatin on me for 50+ years.
But I love her …… [sm=banghead.gif]

I can relate, SoMn. My issue is that I passed the gene onto two helpless children! The Vikes will ALWAYS be our team, but they love to break our hearts.

The last coach we had that felt innovative at all was Dennis Green and he didn't care about defense at all. At least we were fun to watch.

Agreed, younger more creative minds that embrace tech and have ability to scheme flexible gameplans the can evolve in real game time to the opponent... Offensive minds that are not held back or teathered to some old school mantras and beliefs on how games used to be won...

I'm happy to report that neither of my boys like the Vikings. Neither care that much for watching football either though.

Loser: Xavier Rhodes

Burnt toast. That’s the best way to describe what Rhodes has been this season for Minnesota. The former Pro Bowler entered Week 16 having yielded a 126 quarterback rating when targeted this season.

It did not get much better against Davante Adams and the Packers Monday night. As the primary guy on Adams, Rhodes was the main culprit in allowing Green Bay’s No. 1 receiver to catch 13-of-16 targets in a game that Aaron Rodgers struggled throwing to other players.

This is going to be a major issue for the Vikings moving forward into the playoffs. They simply can’t rely on Rhodes any more. In fact, it might be time to bench the veteran.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 10:43:52 AM)

There was one play in the game where Elflein didn't even get out of his stance until the play was over...

Both my sons live and die Vikings, they take these losses much tougher than I do any more... There is a point I just gave up on being beaten personally by all...

He's been historically bad and still gets put out there a lot. Horrible coaching decision.

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 10:51:52 AM)

Rhodes issues seem so dramatic in fall off.... Almost to point one should start to wonder if its more mental than physical...

We have some serious issues on this team and the underlying waves of drug and alcohol troubles with players cannot be dismissed...

Its time for a regime change, the culture and team chemistry are just not healthy under this head coach and his ways....

He's the most frustrating guy on the line. He has games where he seems like he's getting it, only to play like dreck the next week.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 10:59:34 AM)

Chad Graff@ChadGraff

Some stats to sum up how bad the Vikings' offense was:
-- The longest drive was 31 yards.
-- The offense crossed the 50 one time -- then threw an interception on the next play.
-- The fullback had as many targets (4) as Adam Thielen.
-- They had eight drives without a first down.

Arlowe84 -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 11:08:19 AM)

There is a lot more parity in the NFL than we want to believe. We are all homers to an extent who want to believe our guys are better than they are

This team has historically played bad under Zimmer just when you think they should be getting some swagger
And when they are counted out they seem to play better

Maybe the best chance for this team is to be considered the weakest team in
Maybe they’ll get pissed off enough
Just maybe a NO will completely overlook them

All it takes is to lose a step....Adams is really good. I recall about 4-5 receptions were Rhodes was on him tight but Adams caught the pass....he just isn't a shutdown corner any more....he is a zone corner and I don't know if he is good at that. He for sure can't be a nickel corner either.

I think Rhodes was never elite. He was bad to start his career. Remember Dez Bryant just torching him up and down the field
I think he got “good” when the pass rush was elite
Once the pass rush got average he’s been exposed
Also think the emphasis is illegal contact hurt him

The fact that he's even on the field at all shoots down the whole "coaches know better" argument. This coach is obviously an idiot!

So billicheat Is a new wave innovative “ youngster”?

Sadly, it falls on upper management to make the needed moves.
Zim has proven that he can coach up defensive players, get the best he can out of the likes of diggs, theilen, cook, skill player on both sides.

But then he sticks to failed, overmatched and declining veterans, game plans, play calling, simply out of his own stubbornness and belief that he is right, even if opposing coaches, school him, he never seems to learn.

Wilf’s are making money.
Fans get what they are given

Ask Cleveland about being a franchise city.

The ask Baltimore.

Just imagine if we didn't get to play the AFC West and the NFC East this year.

Easily could be 8-7

SteveR -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 12:10:00 PM)

Last night was standard. We know what we are getting from a Zimmer/Spielman team at this stage. This is who we are until they go, and we can see how the next guys fare. Might be worse, but it might be better. Staying the course is not going to get anything done.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 12:13:04 PM)

Believed going in they would lay a goose egg having found out the day prior they made the playoffs + no Cook and Mattison.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of media in Minnesota calling them out, both in quantity and in harshness. The regime would be blown out of town in a market like Philly or NY.

Fan sentiment seems they need to go and try something different but will the Wilfs feel the same?
My guess is with Zimmer and Cousins with one year left we’ll get one more year before we see the start of a rebuild

I think Spielman has gotten lucky more than anything
His best picks were late rounders or FAs
It’s not like he was on Diggs, Hunter, Thielen when others weren’t
Yet we’ve seen him miss constantly on the higher picks

Dave Odle -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 12:15:04 PM)

This is a frustrating team, for sure. That point about parity is really true, though. I don't see a dominant team in the NFC that hasn't been exposed at least a little. The Vikings are a streaky team. They remind me of the Rams who could destroy you or just wilt.

In fairness, Cook and Mattison being out hurt.
