If I were looking for a new head coach I'd find someone just coming off their first or second HC stint. I'd want someone who made his/her mistakes and learned from them. I'd want someone who tried a lot of things with varying degrees of success and failure and continued to try and adapt and change. Their record as HC would be meaningless to me. I don't want a first-time HC and I don't want an old dog with no new tricks. I'd sit and wait for one of the younger innovators that are still learning how to win games consistently and hope their team moves on from them.

Josh McDaniels?

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 3:15:12 PM)

It would be interesting to bring in Mike LaFleur for an interview...

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 3:24:05 PM)

The way we look unprepared and disinterested as a team when playing division rivals such as the Packers and Bears is a huge indictment on the current regime...

At the top of a HC job security list should be those goals. To field teams as we have the past couple years with all the supposed tallent and look so totally inept and out coached by a couple of rookie HC rivals is grounds for dismissal...

And bring in someone from the front office of Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Philly or KC to be the GM

Vikings defense held Rodgers to his 3rd worst performance of the year, by EPA/play.

(Krauser on Twitter)

Rodgers helped us with that. Dude was off until he smelled blood in the water.

Last night was standard. We know what we are getting from a Zimmer/Spielman team at this stage. This is who we are until they go, and we can see how the next guys fare. Might be worse, but it might be better. Staying the course is not going to get anything done.

Fan sentiment seems they need to go and try something different but will the Wilfs feel the same?
My guess is with Zimmer and Cousins with one year left we’ll get one more year before we see the start of a rebuild

I think Spielman has gotten lucky more than anything
His best picks were late rounders or FAs
It’s not like he was on Diggs, Hunter, Thielen when others weren’t
Yet we’ve seen him miss constantly on the higher picks

That is probably a fair guess. I was hoping this would be the last Zimmer year, but they will probably say we made the playoffs, so let's keep the broken wagon rolling.

Unfortunately you will be correct. I just want to wish all of my talk vikes friends a Merry Christmas! I know lots of you probably dislike me but I don't have any ill will towards anybody on this site. I consider you all my friends even if we may get into a heated discussion from time to time.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 6:19:32 PM)

Would like to see a Cousins year with offensive head coach, I doubt it happens.

No way do I extend Cousins unless he makes NFC title game this year or next.

I wouldn’t extend Cook. Can’t think of any teams that are happy they did.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 7:36:19 PM)

See if Jay Gruden wants to come in as an OC if they plan on letting Zimmer get 1 more year. I think all 3 (Zimmer/RS/Cousins) are tied to the hip.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/24/2019 10:03:06 PM)

Merry Christmas, y’all..

Sincerely

From hell on earth..

Probably been talked about many times already. Since before the season started, the left side of the O-line has really bothered me. LT and LG really seem to suck, those positions are well below what we need if we want to run the ball against decent defenses. Regardless of what the rankings say this is not a good running offense or I should say could be so much better considering we have a Dalvin Cook. Cousins failed in this last game from the start but He didn't get much help to correct it with the shoddy blocking either.
My opinion is that we improved the line some the last year, or maybe two with O'Neill, but we need to continue this offseason and repair the left side of the o-line. Reiff is hard to watch and Elflein is almost that bad.

I agree. That's what I've been thinking, but now I'm also thinking that if we can get a potentially great QB I would support selecting that first.

When are they most likely to draft a QB early? Probably not with Spielman as GM, and probably not until it's clear they are moving on from Cousins. One and done in the playoffs, I think Wilfs clean house, and a new front office waits a year and drafts a QB in 2021 after moving on from Kirk.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/26/2019 8:38:26 AM)

What happened to angry Kirk from earlier in the season ?

Has an angry Kirk ever showed up for crucial late season games, and or playoff games ?

The good franchises know when to cut bait with aging veterans or player who have it their peak, yet are up for a new contract.

The general consensus is no way do you resign Cook. Way too much of an injury history.

An analyst said the other day. Make no mistake about it, if Kirk Cousins doesn't at lead you to a SB appearance it has been a failure.

With this team going nowhere this year, and next year going into a lame duck year for both Cousins/Zimmer (and prolly Spiels), time to start picking and choosing how to build forward.

He's not playing Det, Was or Den anymore!

Man, this draft is so loaded with QBs, likely going to still be a couple good ones when we pick.

Maybe use Barr as trade bait to get up in the top 10?

If the Vikings want to trade up there should be opportunities. Several bad teams think they have their QB of the future

I think the OLine rebounds this week.

How could you not be embarrassed by that last performance?

I think the only way the o-line looks better is if Chicago doesn't come to play. The last three games against Chicago our offensive line has been absolutely destroyed (physically and mentally). They looked like children playing against adults.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/26/2019 10:49:57 AM)

It's not even about the OLine IMO. All lines struggle at times. It's how the team adjusts when they do. We never seem to do that (on both offense and defense). Without that, we're done. Look at the play calling on Monday. It was clear our line was getting dominated and the play calls did the offense no justice.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/26/2019 11:37:08 AM)

Regarding the O-line from Monday night: I think it should be said that it wasn't the entire line that played poorly. O'Neil and Kline were lights out. We didn't do much to capitalize on that but I think they deserve their due credit. They were incredible.

The Vikings have embarrassed themselves for decades. It doesn't matter who the players are. Playing with no emotion and/ or not being prepared is the Vikings trademark.
