Shocking to me:

#Vikings OL ranked by PFF

1. Riley Reiff
2. Brian O’Neill
3. Pat Elflein
4. Josh Kline
5. Garrett Bradbury

(Purple Post on Twitter)

I guess Reiff draws the tougher end on average compared to O'Neill. Elflein blocks downfield better than Klein -- suggests a big weight on that aspect. No surprise on Bradbury, who has simply been over-matched most of the year.

The Vikings allowed only one TD to opposing tight ends this year. (Best in NFL)

An upset Sunday would be an incredible feat.

Brees should have no real issue with our secondary. If they stop Hunter, he should be pretty comfortable.

Saints will aim to overwhelm our OL and make our offense stagnate.

I'm expecting a three-score loss.

Only variable to change things is turnovers. If we get a bunch of them and points off them, then we have chance.

Ramblings...

I would be willing to listen to a trade for Zim, I think he is a very good DC and an average HC. Unfortunately, we could have a lot worse HC than Zim, and we may just get it. But good is the enemy of great

I feel we are maxed out with Zim at the helm...we will be ok to good every year, but not serious SB contenders, SB is all I care about nowadays, for better or worse.

Maybe Zim goes Dallas, they trade/not resign Dak and bring in Teddy at a much more reasonable contract. that would be something. Teddy/good Oline/Zeke and a Zim D....interesting, i guess

its not likely we go into NO and win, but we have a punchers chance...you never know

I think we got the best out of Cousins that we can, and if you cant win with that, its time to change something, maybe the QB, maybe the coach, maybe the entire thing...

cant give Cook a huge contract, it will be interesting to see how next season goes, a holdout seems very possible

i think Theilen's best years are gone, he should be quite effective for a long time as a savy vet, but wont scare defenses anymore, might need to look at his contract

I didnt see Rudy's second half coming....tip of the hat, sir

Elflein has not been terrible in the second half, not great either, IMO

Colquitt might have been our best signing this offseason

not sold on the LS, he seems pretty inconsistent

Brees is very good at getting the ball out quick, I predict many people will be screaming about how we are getting no pressure on Brees all day

very surprised if we have more than one legit sack

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/3/2020 10:07:38 AM)

Playing on the road is always tough - and even more so in the playoffs. A win this weekend would be a nice upset!

I was torn about playing starters last week. But what we ended up with was essentially a mini bye week. Some guys have been resting for several weeks now. I actually think that helps these guys.

I agree with others assessments that NO will bring lots of pressure on our OL and Cousins. I hope we have a nice section in the playbook for TE screens and quick slants to counter that. With all of that traffic at the LOS, we may need to pass to set up the run. The OL is going to need to play its best game of the year. They played like crap against GB, so here's hoping they play strong.

It may be hard to sack Brees, but the DL need to remember to stay disciplined and get their hands up if the rush doesn't get there. There will be opportunities for batted passes, including on bootlegs. Remember, Brees is not tall.

Zimmer is great at defense. Let's see some new coverage schemes on Thomas at a few key points in the game. As others have said, a couple of turnovers would go a along way to giving us a win here.

The pass defense - especially the secondary - has been a bit maligned this year. Maybe they have just been waiting for this moment to really shine....

MN is as good a team as NO. They are. NO has the advantage since it is at their place. But MN could roll in there with some swagger, play smart and tough, and get out of there with a win.

According to this web page, the Vikings gave up 8 TD's to the running backs by rushing in addition to the four by receiving. It doesn't seem too bad for me.

agree with the rest week

we needed some rest, and it was extremely unlikely (impossible?) that we would get a playoff bye

also, improves our draft position

IF we play our best game in all 3 phases, we can beat anyone, IMO....will we?

Coach Charlie Weiss was talking about coaching rumors this morning on NFL radio. He says that if you hear the rumors about a coach going somewhere then there's definitely some substance to it. He says that's not to say it will happen for sure. He said in all his years in and around the NFL he's never known for there to be a false rumor when it comes to coaches and jobs. He says coaches are talking to teams all the time and the public won't hear a rumor about dang near all of them - because none of them are seriously being considered. But when you hear a rumor about a coach going somewhere - rest assured there's some legitimacy to it.

Pretty much the opposite of 2009. If we hadn't turned the ball over a bunch, we would have won by three scores. Like 2009, I wouldn't expect any help from the referees in this one.

I agree on a lot of points.

I would like to see this team with some continuity on the offense with OC & QB. I think Stef can improve (he dropped some duds) and I think Cousins can as well (he's looked better -not great- at off schedule plays). Another year of coaching and investment in the offensive line, a legit 3rd WR and I think this could be a special offense.

I also think Zimmer has young talent in Hill, Hughes, even Boyd. And Watts. I think he can retool the defense on the fly. Only HUGE need is a 3T that can get pressure.

I'm on the fence. We no show on Sunday and my opinion might change.

I think this is a legit upside take, though there is a downside take that's at least equally likely. Also, we can't count on Hill; keep him, support him, develop him, but he's dramatically more likely to be Josh Gordon than Cris Carter (as is anyone in his situation).

Shurmer has HC'd in two different places and failed miserably in both. Granted one was Cleveland, and the other is a Giants team with some total moron running the team. But still. He managed to suck donkey balls in two chances. NO THANKS.

I don't want to revert to shit.

If Zimmer goes, open up the vault and pry Jim Harbaugh loose from Michigan.

He has coached a team IN THE NFL to a Superbowl...and lost, barely, to his brother, with Colin Kaepernick at QB.

College and the pros are two different animals.

When he left SF, they went in the toilet. It took years to get them back to contention.

Huge to have Kendricks back. Hughes hasn't played great but he's our best slot option after Mac. Kearse will probably have a pretty big role.
