how to use Barr consistently as a rusher.

It's not rocket surgery. Send him.

The Gophers didn't win a championship, but they had a nice Bowl victory and they exceeded expectations. The Vikings seem to disappoint every year. Funny how our 2nd round RT is much better than our first round center. We haven't hit many homeruns with our first rounders, have we. Kendricks is better than Barr, too.

Right, but Gopher expectations are about a 40% win probability. And about 1/2 of those coming against The Little Sisters of the Poor, or the equivalent.

Didn't the Vikings beat bad teams? Because we all know Kirk Cousins can't beat good ones.

Big changes to Bears coaching staff: former Jaguars’ OC John DeFilippo is being hired as their QB coach, QB coach Dave Ragone is being promoted to passing game coordinator, and Bill Lazor is being hired as OC, per league source.

It always amazes me how far teams will go to cover up mistakes made instead of moving on from them. If they put as much effort into finding the right players as they put into covering up for bad picks I have a feeling things would work out much better.

A good season of raised level of performance will raise the level of expectations for next season, no doubt. Your point is well taken, BigO.

Zack Line retires at the age of 29. It seems just like yesterday he came here as an undrafted free agent.

Apply this to us. We actually bring back Treadwell. We think Sherels is "solid". We brought in Newman, at 41 years old, hoping to shore up our secondary. Sendejo too. Iloka?

Now Zimmer's son is going to get a promotion. Earned? What are we doing?

We have a philosophy of football that is incorrect. We use a third round pick on a back up RB. I know you guys love Mattison. Is he better than Boone?

Any chance we could have moved up just a bit (instead of trading down) to land Metcalf?

We're not interested in WR's. We think two is enough.

Your fancy, modern style of football is wrong. I'll show you.

We are going to run and stop the run. How did that work for us?

Take a guess how good our running game was the last half of the season.

Would you be surprised to find out that Cook averaged 3.3 yards per carry the last 8 games he started, including the playoff game at New Orleans?

Where was Mattison against the 49ers? 3rd round pick that everybody loves, but can't contribute on a win now team. Again, why wouldn't we be more concerned about actually having a 3rd WR?

Run first, stop the run. What happens when your philosophy fails? Fire the assistants, promote your offspring.

I can see in this case them pulling out all the stops. Trubisky was the 2nd overall pick and I believe they traded up as well. This one is also even tougher to swallow being they could have picked Mahommes at their original spot or even traded down a bit.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/16/2020 6:34:03 AM)

There will be a youth movement on the offensive line

Another interesting tidbit from Mike Zimmer’s press conference on Monday was the subtle vote of confidence for his younger offensive linemen. While the Vikings’ blockers were bullied toward the end of the season, Zimmer said he liked what he saw from some of the project offensive linemen as the year wore on.

Two names that Minnesota fans should watch out for this offseason are guard Dru Samia and tackle Oli Udoh. Both players were selected in the later rounds of the 2019 draft and with Samia’s athleticism projecting as a perfect fit for the Vikings’ zone-blocking scheme and Udoh possessing raw power, both could make a push toward the starting lineup throughout OTAs and into the preseason.

Veterans Pat Elflein and Riley Reiff (assuming he accepts a restructure) will be pushed by this duo as neither had a year that entrenches their starting spot beyond this past season. If Udoh and Samia can have a strong offseason program, they could be improvements for an offensive line that took a step forward from the 2018 disaster.

My prediction for next years starting Oline from left to right

O'Neal
Kline
Bradbury
Samia
Udoh

Behind an OLine that got demolished.

GB is in NCFCG because they want to establish the run and play good defense. Same with Tennessee and SF.

The philosophy isn't bad, the guys that you need to carry out the philosophy are.

You lose 2 guys Week 17 and you think we can go find quality FAs. Really??

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/16/2020 10:22:16 AM)

If the Vikings hire Zimmer and Kubiak sons as the OC and DC and next year goes bad you make it very easy for the Wilfs to clean house.

Not saying I have a problem with either but the perception is going to be ugly.

Plus they are both in the last year of their contracts.

What quality OC wants to come to a place where you might have to pack your bags in a year?

And what DC wants to come to a place where he won't have much say on Game Day?

It is what it is. Fix the OLine and hopefully see more DET(away) and DEN(2nd half) and Philly type games.

Defense needs to find a difference making DT and figure out the CB situation.

Bears gave up their (very high) 3rd and 4th round picks as well as their 3rd round pick the next year to move up from 3 to 2 to take Trubisky.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes went 10th and Deshaun Watson went 12th...

Plus those 3 picks they gave up?

2017 3rd round: Alvin Kamara
2017 4th round: Tedric Thompson (part time starter at safety for Seattle)
2018 3rd round: Fred Warner (2 year starting LBer on the 49ers)
