Why Cousins agreed to do a weekly radio show baffles me.

He obviously doesn’t need the money

Cousins is a different kinda dude, he does some weird local and regional commercials he doesnt need too. He seems to dedicate a portion of his money to his beliefs and Christian funding of agendas. He is also very frugal with his money and he and wife lived in her parents basement before moving to Minnesota. He still drives his Grandmas hand me down van which everyone on team teases him about.. He is a different kind of guy for sure...

He really wanted to do well in Minnesota with all the screaming YOU VIKE ME, but it isnt working out that way, and in some ways I believe that too is crushing Kirk Cousins psyche... The media and now fans turning on him isnt helping and its going to get much uglier if this all flames out!

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 12:02:32 PM)

Not sure Cousins thought it through (regarding this first fully guaranteed contract ever).

Scrutiny and expectations come with doing something like this. mentally, he clearly isn't up to the task.

He'd been probably in a better place mentally had he signed a standard deal like Garrapolo's.

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 12:08:12 PM)

Spielman is the one who chose Cousins, I absolutely guarantee this was not a Mike Zimmer kind of guy and Im sure partially why Zimmer being stuck with Cousins really fries his ass knowing this dude is going to cost him his job.

Kirk is a very religious man with strong faith and he uses an agent that quotes bible verses and says things like god told them to choose Minnesota. His agent only represents a handful of NFL players but that includes Trevor Siemian... His agent seems to be a very polarizing figure in Kirks life also helping him to channel his resources to further his faiths agendas. Kirks agent was the driving force in the way they played their cards with the Redskins and also the negotiating and crafting of Kirks current contract which BTW is still the first and only fully guaranteed contract in history of NFL...

Im not mocking Kirks beliefs or faith, but really, I wish god would have willed Kirk to win a super Bowl for the Vikings... but alas I dont believe god likes Norsemen and their pagan ways!

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 12:22:34 PM)

I have nothing against anyone with strong religious beliefs. But when they where it on their sleeves and quote versus and the like...

It can be a little over the top.

Please provide some proof to back this up. Zimmer was pretty clearly pro Teddy and anti Case and anti Sloter during his tenure, but I have seen nothing that says he was against Cousins.

Yeah, Cousins seems (seemed?) like exactly the type of QB Zimmer would covet.

I will go back and try and dig out a couple quotes at the time we were keeping him from the Jets and working out Kirks contract that seem to suggest that it was fully Spielmans agenda... I didnt say Zimmer wasnt at all in on the signing, but I more implied that Kirk is not the type of guy Zimmer does well coaching up... Zimmer has no tact or light handed approach with peoples feelings in mind he is direct and brash. Its got to be a challenge how he handles Kirk and it shows in how he chokes back all his words to the media concerning Kirks play! (In saying he wasnt a Zimmer kind of guy I was speaking as a man, in hindsight his seemingly fragile mentality and needing differential treatment compared to Zimmers fav guys...)

Zimmers hands are tied in all this, and I truly believe Zimmer is an aweful coach for all skill positions that are not defensive in nature. He hates QBs and kickers... Shows a real disdain for guys who need different handling and hates outspoken guys who seem bigger than his message and ways... The year Case did well tehre were many social media and player videos showing the team joking and having fun. Zimmer hated this and clamped down on it all... He has an hard line view of what belongs in football and how his visions must be applied.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer doesn't know why Kirk Cousins struggles in big games: 'You'd have to ask him'

Zimmers pressers have become a joke and his post Chicago loss was everything a HC should not be and say... he is a dinosaur who sees his days numbered as he plods toward the tar pits...

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 12:50:14 PM)

Cousins is a high character, family oriented guy that isn't going to deviate from the game plan or take (what Zim would see as) unneeded risks.

I bet Zimmer had huge cartoon hearts for eyes when the Vikings were recruiting him.

As a QB skill set I totally agree with you, but in hindsight to Zimmer, Cousins is a different kind of man who needs a coaching style that Zimmer does not possess. I more meant now as Zimmer sees his gig in MN coming to a flaming end...

It is obvious Zimmer is not good with differing types or personalities or mindsets that dont exactly match his football ideals and mantra... He might have been a great 70s coach, but has little place as a HC in todays game. My way or the highway unyielding stubbornness with outdated systems and ideals dont work...

And dont turn on the big screen TVs in the new center, or that damn fake huge fireplace!

I think the greater issue is that Zimmer is a pure defensive coach, who doesn't exactly excel at coaching the offensive side of the ball.

Good news!

Brian O'Neill is four games into his second year and has still not given up a single sack.

He has now surpassed Joe Thomas & is 2nd to only Ryan Clady among OTs for most pass blocking snaps to start a career without giving up a sack since 2006 (the earliest year PFF has charted)

Yep, God forbid he championed someone head strong.

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 1:34:30 PM)

At this point its obvious Kirk has been damaged by coaching in Minnesota... He is being asked, or more appropriately TOLD to follow the damn game plan, Reigns so tight he is afraid to take any other plays.

He is highly paid and not only seems shell shocked mentally but also a good soldier just doing as told under the command of his generals...

Who to blame?

How to fix?

Ragnarök -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 1:44:47 PM)

There is a toxic mix in Minnesota at the moment...

Sometimes there is that element at play where team chemistry overcomes lesser skill sets and poor coaching to produce results that seem magical...

Then you have the past two years where team minds felt one element replaced would most certainly take us one step further...

Team minds faltered and now the team coaching is also glaringly suspect...

Chemistry is at an all time low because of one move.

KIRK must SIT

Its all too obvious...

I say bite the bullet, Ziggy and company, Tell management that the expensive problem must sit and get his wits back about him.

Make a point to Coaching that they must game plan and provide winning ball...

And to do this within the cap and afford sitting the multi million dollar man.,.

BRING BACK SLOTER

And force Zimm and company to support this move, its their jobs and paychecks on line...

Dont like it, toooo F ucking Bad...

I dont care if we win two more games, where we are going nopw is a total frustrating cluster F u c k for all involved... Sloter may just spark something or at the least be fun to watch!

I was going to watch this to get a feel for what the root problem is....

OMG, first play is a TD with average QB play... couldn't watch any more... wtf happened to our offense.

Same here, I forced myself to watch about 5 plays in disbelief as to whats going on in Kirks head...

There's someone in my head but it's not me

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

No no no no no! Didn't you get the memo? It's the offensive line. only fixing that will make us better......

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (10/1/2019 2:26:49 PM)

So we are 2-0 at home and 0-2 on the road to teams that were favored....there isn't a way to make the playoffs at this early point in the season. Lets just trash the season....no way to fix any wrongs at this point....trade everyone, start the backup qb, fire the coach and gm.
