Cutting Rhodes, Joseph, Reiff, and Griffen lops about $40 million off the top. I would start there. Convert Cousins' current salary to bonus and extend him four years and you've added another chunk. Resigning Harris is a must, Cook extension and resigning of Waynes seem likely.

OL, OL, OL. A fast WR.

Pro personnel scouting needs to have been on point; we need to find diamonds in the rough.

I like Watts, Udoh, and Hollins WR.....we have some pieces not used much that showed something against Chicago in last game.

I like Dillon Mitchell as that speedy WR. Go Vikings.

Offseason dreamin' plan 1

starting $-5 million salary cap

Cut:

Rhodes: 8 million gain
Reiff 9 million gain
Linval 10 million gain

Restructure

Griff: 6 million gain

Trade:

Cousins 31 million gain and 3rd and 4th round pick

60 millionish to spend

SIGN

TEDDY! 24 million
Sherff 12 million
Harris 10 million

Pierce DT (BAL) 5 million

9 million left for Weatherly?, Mac Alexander, I wouldnt mind Waynes, but I think someone overpays for him

(i think we might have another 3rd comp pick, too, not sure)

1st round OL
2nd round CB
3rd round WR
3rd round DT
4th round OL
4th round DE

Cousins has a no trade clause.

true, but clauses can be waived

Sure, but it severely limits where we can trade him - if at all.

agree, thats why i did not put a very high draft compensation for him

by most accounts, he was a legit top 5 QB this year, getting a 3rd/4th seems reasonable

there are several FAQBs this year, too which may reduce the price of a rental

Why would we trade a top 5 QB for a 3rd and 4th round pick. No way in hell.

If we clear up $40 million and with signing bonuses we can sign pretty much anyone we want as signing bonuses are spread out....we don't need to clear $60 million.....plus the cap will increase.

It is probably the best case scenario for the guys we want to cut or re-structure(except Griffen). They all struggled and were detriments to the team(Rhodes, Reiff, Linval).

Use that money on a top notch Guard and DT.

If the Vikings sign Joe Thuney at G and draft Mecki Becton at OT in the 1st, The Vikings oline would at least have the potential to be a very good, to great unit for the first time a very long time. Chris Jones is probably going to be too expensive at DT, but he would be a massive upgrade for the dline. Javon Hargrave or Michael Pierce are probably more likely targets. It would be worth taking a flyer on Mike Daniels as well on a "prove it" deal.

If the quarterback is signed for one year and you are ready to go another direction it makes sense. Nevertheless, if you think you have a chance to be Super this year, then I agree. It would be dumb.

Scour the earth for OL and DL.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/5/2020 12:01:04 AM)

I'm grateful for the internet to find articles to read during the off-season. When I was younger I used look for sports sections and be frustrated with how little there was to read.

Back in the day, missed the actual game (NFL, NBA) during the off-season but never felt there was a void in written coverage. Also, articles were written by some of the greats. A good Borg v McEnroe article was worth 20 of these rubbish 'articles' nowadays.

After last off-season's NBA madness, the off-season interest is tempered. Fire up the NFL FA and draft threads, chime in once in a while about bolstering three positions, and call it a day.

Borg was a great athlete, but I found his game uninteresting. McEnroe was the ultimate artist of the game.

I always rooted for Borg against McEnroe and Connors. Dude was cool.

Although, McEnroe outbursts were great to watch.

Borg was great technician, with Terminator like persistence.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/15/2020 8:48:32 PM)

It's early in the off*season and so talk is rather slow right now. I've been watching a Taiwanese drama- a more relaxing change of pace from Korean dramas. Anyway, I checked in with this and thought it was a a good idea for free agency.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/15/2020 8:57:21 PM)

If you like that one you may want to watch this one. Football is a young man's game and so I am not interested in this free agent, although it would be an interesting experiment to put Norman at safety, since he is a zone specialist.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/16/2020 9:55:52 AM)

I don't have a strong opinion about any of these options.

Mark Anderson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/21/2020 3:26:11 PM)

WR Taylor Gabriel and CB Prince Amukamara released.

Maybe take a look at Gabriel.

No to Amukamara(had a solid 2018 because of Bears' DLine). Too slow.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/22/2020 12:07:08 AM)

It will be tough for free agent receivers with all the quality receivers in the draft. Maybe they will come with a healthy discount.

Mark Anderson -> RE: Free Agency 2020 (2/22/2020 8:30:32 AM)

DT Damon "Snacks" Harrison available.

Bring him in for a look.

Snacks is good when healthy. But is getting long in tooth (31) like Joseph

Borg was a backboard that just beat his opponents into submission. McEnroe had so much finesse, creativity and style to his game.

spotrac lists the value of waynes and alexander as $8.5/yr each...i'd keep waynes for that price....

waynes - hughes - hill - 2nd rounder - boyd - 6th rounder
