Quartney Davis looks like this year's Dillon Mitchell:

https://youtu.be/hLZQa16wRX4

He looks GREAT on film ! I like the quickness, the adjustments to the ball and with defenders. And one of the TDs, doing a Moss and not looking back until the last second.

Almost looks like a little taller Diggs at times.

I think Davis looks better than Mitchell.

He did look pretty good. He ran a just OK 4.54 40, but he looked faster than that. I think some GMs overvalue 40 times when you can see functional speed on the game tape. If Davis runs a 4.44, he probably goes in the 4th round. He still has a tough road to get on the 53, but I can see why he was our most sought after UDFA.

He looks great...I can’t believe we didn’t draft him...he makes the final 53....

That will probably depend on health and what happens with every other WR on the roster. At this point ONLY Theilen and Jefferson should consider themselves safe to make the roster.

Agreed, but Sharpe I think is close to a lock. Bisi was good for a 7th round pick last year, but IMO he should be a 4th WR at best. Hopefully Mitchell and Davis can take the 4th 5th spots.

I am afraid for Mitchell...he is going to have to really gain some ground. Behind Bisi, Hollins, Treadwell, and Beebe last year.

i know that Davis was undrafted, but he really looks impressive to me...he plays like his 6'-3" and has plenty of speed - also, plays with great confidence....

To get to the 4th and 5th WR spot one of these guys may need to demonstrate an ability beyond WR as well. ST, specifically returning kicks and punts may make a huge difference. This Osborn kid we drafted seems to have that skill.

It also depends on what is on the rest of his plays that we don't see: drops, inability to get open vs better DBs, poor effort, bad decisions, fumbles, weak RAC, etc. I also drum into my brain that these are just highlights, but it's hard not to get caught up; I really like the way he looks also. I'm always in hopeful mode with everyone on our roster at this point; why not?

I think that's why he would stick---his special teams ability (not just as a returner) gives him the spot that might go to a LB or DB who would never actually play on defense outside of an emergency.

Assuming our draft picks in the first 3 rounds all pan out, we could really be set up for 2021. We can dump Reiff's big contract, our oline will be young and cheap at both T positions, and we'll be young and cheap at CB. Our WR corps will also be cheaper without Diggs contract. Unfortunately, this year we still have BIG question marks at CB, WR, and OL.

Taking a look at the (likely) post-draft roster, the Vikings have a few needs to fill out via FA. There will be some vets cuts, hopefully a few that can contribute to the Vikings:

CB - we have an influx of talent but almost no NFL experience at the position
S - need depth with NFL experience
OG - currently 3 guards on the roster and one is Eflein(!). Samia will man one spot (33 total snaps in the NFL) and if one of our T move to guard they will have zero NFL experience. Dicey.
WR - very thin at the position, should add a vet with deep speed

If everything breaks right for the Vikings they should be competitive this year, but currently teams like the 49ers and Chiefs seem like they're in a different league than us.

Good stuff. I would add DE and DT to the mix. We were one of the youngest teams the last couple years and got younger. Makes sense to bring Griff back. Be a big year for guys like Watt/Irv to step up.
Guards we have Elf, Collins, Samia, Dozier, Jones - right? Not counting the late rounders drafted.

I think we are more talented in areas than last year (T, CB) and less in others (WR). I enjoy rooting for young players trying to make it vs declining vets.

This was slated to be a rough off-season for sure, and was made more problematic with Diggs leaving
I think as of right now this is probably a 9 and 7 or 10 and 6 type team with enough talent to compete
Should have enough talent to compete for a wild card or NFC North title
We need a couple of these rookies to shine for sure
There is a fair amount riding on them for sure
Let’s remember though Rhodes was freaking terrible, so hard to not upgrade
I’m hopeful with Kubiak more hands on he can get this line and Cousins more in synch
I wouldn’t pencil in San Fran just yet. They were not that far off from Chicago 2 years ago. Garrapalo did not look good and will have to raise his play
KC has Mahomes which we will just never have in the near future

Arlowe - do you think with JJ, Irv, and hopefully Thielen not missing as many games we can make up for the loss of Diggs ?

Last year I had a pretty tight window of wins/losses. I wouldn't be surprised if we have as few wins as 6/7 or as high as 10/11 this year.

I tend to agree, this team will have wide window, just with losing some key pieces for sure and how quickly can a guy like Jefferson get up to speed.
We've seen a lot of "can't miss" WRs miss
But yeah, I think Irv can increase his role this year, he certainly look like a dynamic receiver last year.
Not that it means anything, but I'd expect most of the national media to pencil in GB and the North winner, but think this team could have more overall talent.

Zimmer may make final calls, but I think the offensive players we keep and use were more about Stefanski and Kubiak. And I know you have a mancrush on Mitchell, but he did not really flash in the preseason last year so I think 'Mitchell not showing enough' is a better explanation than any hatred on the part of the Vikings coaching staff. Did the rest of the NFL hate Mitchell as well? He was available basically all year on thee practice squad and no one snapped him up.

They probably will, although Rodgers should be expected to continue his decline. Every important stat except interception % has been declining for 2-3 years. Oh, he is also doing well in 4th down drives to tie/lead and comebacks (around 3 per year last couple of years).

He never got his chance to show in the NFL. I'll just say I know what he was in college and it was dramatically better than Bisi Johnson. I think his best move would be to decline the Vikings this season and go to camp with another team.

I agree with Bill also. He is just a guy, but a guy that is good enough to be in an NFL WR rotation. I don't expect him to be a star. If he goes with somebody else I'm pretty sure he would have a better outcome than a Practice Squad guy.

Somebody has to want him. It doesn't matter any more what he or anyone else did in college, or better yet seemed to do. Good QBs, offensive systems, bad DBs, etc, often make college WRs look better than they actually are, and the converse is also true.

My only real worry worry with Jefferson at this point is that LSU's QB and system made him look better than he actually is. Don't think so, but definitely don't know so. (And I love the pick, to be clear.)

I'm pretty sure the system and QB did make Jefferson look better than he actually is. However, if he's 75% of what he looked like at LSU he is going to be a very good WR for us.

I liked Brad H’s approach to breaking down the draft. Here is my go it.

Unlike Brad, I prioritize talent over need. The draft, for me, is about packing as much bonafide NFL talent on your roster as possible. Talent gives you options. It’s easier to address needs through trade and FA when you have a lot of talent. Single minded focus on need gets you picks like Christian Ponder and Troy Williamson.

I agree with Brad in that I don’t really give the furry crack of a rat’s ass about the last two rounds. Six picks in the last 2 rounds does nothing for me. They will probably get one or 2 guys who will take up a roster spot for a couple of years and 3 other guys who will spend 2 years on the practice squad.

I was hoping for a first round trade up to get one of the elite OL (really wanted Wirfs). According to PA and Zimmer, Spielman tried very hard to move up, although I didn’t hear speculation on the target.
I thought Justin Jefferson was a nice pairing of real need meeting the top talent. You can make the case that CB and OL were greater needs, but the talent to address those needs was not on the level of Jefferson.
Jeff Gladley looks like a plug and play CB. There isn’t much doubt that he will be in the top 3 CB. Who plays outside and who plays nickel is TBD.
Short of moving up for Wirfs, I was hoping for a Williams trade. Unfortunately, Washington being Washington, played hardball with the Vikings and accepted a less than the Vikings offered from the 49ers after the Cleveland pick. I like the Ezra Cleveland pick. I really hope he can at least be an upgrade from Reiff in a short period of time. Our history of drafting that position makes me uneasy though.

Cameron Dantzler could be a real sleeper. Good value pick at a position of need.

I like DJ Wonnum from the perspective that Andre Patterson REALLY likes him and spent a lot of time with him at the combine. It sounds like the only thing missing is a variety of pass rushing moves and Patterson is a great teacher.
Don’t know much about James Lynch, other than he is a 3T who is supposed to be powerful and very quick off the snap. Seems like taking a DT for the sake of a taking a DT.
Troy Dye looks like a ST player to start out, who can hopefully be developed in a starting LB. No idea if he is good value or not.

Hand is an ST player, K.J. Osborn is a kick returner and Rick Spielman will regret trading 155 instead of taking Tyler Johnson who would have been a tremendous value pick at a position of need in the fifth round.
I don’t believe in letter grades for drafts. Some sites will give out 75% A+, A, A-. This draft to me was a solid draft that had the potential to be lot more. Time will tell if it will be remembered for it’s success or its missed opportunities.

Relative to where he was picked Lynch is easily my favorite of this draft. Watching video of him he was unstoppable in college. He just goes straight at the lineman and they are moving backwards and he is by them in an instant. He's a whirling dervish of activity. I'm sure NFL lineman can stop him some of the time, but I'm also pretty sure they can't stop him most of the time. I will be surprised if either Gallimore or Elliott are better.

Doesn't seem to have great speed... but he looks great at splitting double teams... would be awesome if he could provide inside rush to flush QBs to Hunter/Odin.

Flush em or get them himself. He led the nation with 70 QB pressures. That's 5 a game. He's freaking relentless.

For whatever reason Zimmer hates him. I think it's Bs. He could easily be gone this year.

1) He never got his chance to show in the NFL. 2) I'll just say I know what he was in college and it was dramatically better than Bisi Johnson. 3) I think his best move would be to decline the Vikings this season and go to camp with another team.

1) Ofcourse he got his chance – the same chance that any 7th rd. pick gets because that's how the whole NFL felt about him. Is that fair? Sure it is, he didn't show enough to people in college to go higher. In fact, for all we know, if the Vikings hadn't taken him he would've been just another UDFA with even less of an opportunity. So, kudos to Minnesota for giving him a much better opportunity to show something than he would have otherwise. Too bad he did nothing with it (like Johnson).

2) Who cares if YOU think he was better than Johnson in college – both players were drafted based on projecting to the next level. Fortunately for us, Johnson made the most of his unfair 7th rd. opportunity ... we were desperate for depth last year.

3) Mitchell better hope he hangs on for ANOTHER opportunity to show something ... there's more competition this year and he might not make it to the preseason (if there is one). He'll most likely be out of the league if he doesn't (or there isn't).

This background story that you are pushing about Zimmer hating Mitchell is ... over the top ... if you really believe it.

You're like Ahab and Mitchell is your White Whale.

I know what I saw. Even if he never plays a down in the NFL I still know what I saw and it was a hell of a lot better than Bisi Johnson.

No need to be afraid for Mitchell, we should let him go now so he can go to a team where the head coach doesn't hate his guts.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/27/2020 6:56:28 PM)

#Vikings undrafted CB Nevelle Clarke was a 2017 Central Florida teammate of Mike Hughes, who called him Sunday: “He was excited,’’ Clarke said. “We’ve been talking for a few years, & he’s been talking about getting me back on the same team. Now, he said, ‘It’s time go to work.’’’

(Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

McMurfy -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/27/2020 6:57:11 PM)

A couple of points on Mitchell.
He’s from SEC Country and had a ton of SEC offers.
He performed at a High Level in College.
He came out a year early.

Is that enough to make him an NFL WR?

No

But the Coaches saw enough to keep him around for a year so who knows.

Here's a link for the top 100 NFL Free Agents this year per CBS sports.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2020-nfl-free-agency-tracker-updates-on-where-the-top-100-players-have-signed/

Michael Pierce was only the 65th best FA behind the Following Vikings FAs.
63 Linval Joseph
41 Xavier Rhodes
37 Trae Waynes
13 Anthony Harris

Other Ranked Viking FAs
72 Mac Alexander

Very surprisingly to me Everson Griffen wasn't ranked in their top 100.
