Typically Pro day times are about .1 seconds faster. His shuttle time was also shorter by quite a bit. When we watch the film we know that he is one of the fastest players.

It's no secret the #Vikings will look for wide receivers in the draft. One source says they really want a very fast guy to stretch the defense.

If this is true, Mims, Reagor, Aiyuk, and Hamler are the ones to take the top off the defense. Of course, there might be a lower-rated guy who everyone is wrong about that can fly, but these would seem to be the guys who have a chance to make a difference. Spielman has said something like there are guys who are going to go in the fourth or fifth that will contribute right away, but that hardly seems like something you can count on.

Mims combine time was the fastest of that group, but I have heard from the people who watch a lot of football in that conference and they all say Reagor plays the fastest. I personally like Mims the best, because he has the size, speed and production. He's also very physical.

Reager had a poor time at the combine 4.47 I think but ran a 4.32 at his pro day 10 lbs lighter. maybe he tried to come in heavier at the combine weigh in.

Pro day 40 times are virtually meaningless. They are always faster than combine times. Why? I saw a video of his "Pro Day" attended by almost nobody. He was timed twice. Once at 4.28 and the other at 4.22.

It was done virtually as well.

Yeah they are really going to get those times right. This is something that concerns me about Tee Higgins. He has a Pro Day time of 4.54 which means he is most likely a combine time of 4.64. Too slow to consider.

He plays fast according to his game tape.

I think he tried to add weight for his combine weigh in and it simply slowed him down considerably. Even though it wasn't much weight.

One would guess we stay clear of Higgins with that 40 time unless he slips to the 3rd rd.

All indicators point toward Spielman wanting to add more speed to this position.

Bill Jandro -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/23/2020 8:19:41 AM)

How about this guy on day 3

Antonio Gibson – RB/WR (Memphis)

It was surprising to hear that the Vikings originally wanted to bring in Antonio Gibson as one of their Top 30 visits this year. The reason is that even though he played the majority of his college ball as a wide receiver, many project him as a running back in the NFL and that is one position Minnesota is set at.

There are plenty of reasons why the Vikings could take Gibson. Perhaps they see him as a dangerous option out of the slot and project him as a wide receiver in their offense.

They could also use him as a gadget player. Minnesota hasn’t had a true gadget type of player since Cordarrelle Patterson and they underused this ability of his when he was on the team.

Gibson could be lined up in the backfield, out wide, in the slot, basically all over the field. Opposing teams would always have to be aware of where he is on the field. The Vikings could even line him and Dalvin Cook up in the backfield at the same time to really confuse defenses and keep them off balance.

Minnesota could also see Gibson as their kick returner of the future. He is a dynamite return man who is extremely quick with explosive speed. The Vikings could use him as a returner early in his career and if they aren’t able to agree to a long term deal with Cook down the road, they’d have Gibson on the roster ready to see an increased offensive role.

I'm very much in favor of getting him. Round 4 I would have no problem with.

Only for round 4... MeWelde Moore, The Whiz...

Bill Johanesen -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/23/2020 9:04:58 AM)

1st Rounders since 2009
Harvin
Ponder
Kalil
Harrison
Floyd
Rhodes
Patterson
Barr
Teddy
Waynes
Treadwell
Hughes
Bradbury

4 of 13 still on the team, and that's with recently selected Hughes and Bradbury which is expected. Mostly only a career ending injury or being a mammoth bust would exclude them.

kgdabom -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/23/2020 9:23:42 AM)

I'm wearing my Vikings jersey for the draft. It so happens to be an outdated Jersey. A Winfield. Will it be outdated after tonight? Will it still be outdated after tomorrow?

Harvin got us draft picks.
Ponder was a giant reach where he was picked. and busted out
Kalil was very good his rookie year then injuries and loss of confidence ruined him
Harrison is gold
Floyd would have been very good if not for a botched surgery
Rhodes was good for years then fell off a cliff
Patterson was very gifted athletically but just couldn't figure out how to run a route right. Even Bill Belichick couldn't get more out of him.
Barr is better than people here give him credit for.
Teddy would be our QB now if not for the knee injury
Waynes would probably still be here if not for salary cap issues
Treadwell was just a bad pick, but very few WRs that draft turned out good...
Hughes is about to get tested.
Bradbury is about to get tested more.

And if you look at the rest of the draft we haven't done all that bad.

Daniel Jeremiah did a mock draft the last couple of days where he predicts the Vikings take NO WR.

I laughed almost instantly. A WR needy team in a WR rich draft ignoring WR?

Rick Speilman can drive you crazy with a lot of his moves, but not drafting an obvious need isn't one of them.

kgdabom -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/23/2020 10:04:30 AM)

PFF final mock has the Vikings drafting Jaylon Johnson and then Aiyuk. Not bad, but quite underwhelming. They had the 49ers drafting Josh Jones and projecting him to play guard this year, before taking over at tackle. This is what I'm looking for and if they believe he will be a good guard than so do I. I want Jones with our pick 22 to be followed by Mims at 25.

lyle chabot -> RE: NFL Draft 2020 (4/23/2020 10:06:52 AM)

Due to how complex the draft is going to be this year, I believe a lot of trades have already been struck by teams. Thoughts?
