Packers draft was a bit puzzling. Maybe it's just me, but I see Aaron Rodgers playing quarterback for a few more years. I like Love, but Rodgers is one of the smartest and most accurate quarterbacks in the game. I thought they had a ton of needs they didn't address. Quarterback is not their problem, and hasn't been for over 25 years.

The Packers may have decided that they are closer to moving on from the diva than people realize.

Apparently so. That, or he is going to have a huge chip on his shoulder in 2020 and play his ass off.

Can he get out of his contract and ask for a trade?

Rodgers to the Patriots?

Dead cap hits of 51M this year and 31M next year.

2022 he still has a dead cap hit of 17M and a 39M cap hit overall.

2023 he only has a 3M dead cap hit (but still a 28M salary).

Seems like he might be hard to move...

Then drafting Love is all the more puzzling to me. Rodgers is absolutely unmovable for three years. Year 4 they can only release him for no compensation. They burned a 4th round pick to move up in the first round and take a flier on a 3 year backup QB, who is considered to be a project. This, despite the fact that they are a playoff team that could have legitimately addressed needs with the picks they used up on Love.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here. I think the Packers think they just got the next Patrick Mahomes.

Trust me. They didn't. Someone will lose their job over that pick.

Justin Jefferson said he can play equally well in slot and on the outside. "I've been playing outside all my life until last year.''

This comment by Jeff Gladney will make #Vikings coach Mike Zimmer feel good. He said of his TCU tenure, "I knew the playbook like the back of my hand.''

CB draftee Jeff Gladney said he's the "perfect fit" for the #Vikings and wants to make Mike Zimmer "proud'' of drafting him.

CB Jeff Gladney thought he was going to get drafted by the #Vikings at No. 22 or 25. When the Vikings traded the No. 25 pick, he said he got a little bit "antsy" but still thought he might be drafted by them.

#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Jeff Gladney is similar to some CBs he has had but didn't want to offer specific comparisons. When I asked him if Terence Newman is a good comparison, he at least said, "Maybe.''

Mike Zimmer on Packers drafting Jordan Love “I think Rodgers should retire.”

#Vikings No. 31 pick Jeff Gladney will get an estimated four-year, $10.99 million salary, including a $5.55 million signing bonus, and to have a 2020 cap number of $1.99 million. He will have a fifth-year contract option.

(Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

Regarding that last quote, I am wondering how much trading back for Gladney impacted the salary cap for the Vikings.

Justin can claim this all he wants, but he barely played outside at all in 19 and when they put him outside in 18 he very much struggled comparatively.

How do you know? You do know that Thielen and Diggs split reps at slot? Wouldn't you move a guy inside and out based on matchups?

OK, I found the 2020 draft pick value chart on the cbs draftsite:

Pick # 25 = 201.4

Picks #31 + #117 + #176 = 173.66 + 20.06 + 6.18 = 199.9

Are we all happy now or do some people want to keep grinding that Spielman came up 1.5 points short?

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/nfl-draft-2020-pick-trade-value-chart-creating-a-blueprint-for-draft-moves-by-using-past-trades/

I think you are debating with a straw man. Almost everybody liked the result. I did. That chart gives very different value. I saw a pretty large gap in two others I saw.

I think Jefferson looks like a smooth route runner with very good speed 4.43. If I remember right Shades ran a 4.45.

The thing I like most about Jefferson is that he might be the best route runner in the draft and has great ball skills (some mentioned Cris Carter skills). Now I still suggest we grab a burner/KR (Hamler) and/or Tyler Johnson later in the draft.

You have Shades,Jefferson,Johnson/Hamler, Sharpe, Bisi.....you can mix and match and very dangerous.

I've read conflicting reports on Jefferson's route running. Some say he needs a lot of work.

Re: Rodgers. Don't know if people have noticed, but he's not that good anymore.

Don't get me wrong, still a top 10, but not a real difference maker like he once was. That team last year, got to where they were based on being a full team and their defense.
I think they see decline in his play and within 2 years, could be out for a much younger, cheaper QB
He's had a lot of accuracy issues lately. I think injuries have added up for him.

Man, Rick likes to spend his early picks lately on the outside. Personally, believe we should be spending early resources on the lines, but it is what it is.

Not sure really what to think of Jefferson, personally, believe we could have gotten an equivalent talent much later, but late 1st is always tough, almost everyone has warts at that point.
I think he is being slightly overrated. He played in spread offense with lots of weapons and a great QB.
I wouldn't use his college production as an indicator for how he'll do in the pros.

What worries me most is he not overly big and physical, which is where a guy like Michael Thomas makes up for his lack of speed. Could see him having issues getting open.

Seems most services say he's a high floor, low ceiling guy, which I guess is fine. probably a safe #2 type.

Also his role in this run first offense will be completely differnet than LSU's pass happy scheme.

The Keenan Allen comparison is encouraging, and I could see some of that in his college play
Not overly big, fast or quick, but good routes, uses his body to create space and makes contested catches.

Rodgers has plenty left if Devante is healthy. They will get another weapon....should have grabbed one already.

Also his role in this run first offense will be completely differnet than LSU's pass happy scheme.

Rodgers has plenty left if Devante is healthy. They will get another weapon....should have grabbed one already.

Jefferson is a Thielen clone. 4.43, runs good routes, can play slot and outside. Lots of weapons now on Vikes.

Phil, it's not that he doesn't have anything left, it's a matter of whether he's worth the money at this point of his career.
I think it was the home game, he kept us in the game with his terrible accuracy. he was all over the place.
I think they see the writing on the wall with him, and may be better to cut bait soon.

Arlowe I hate the Pack...but who outside of Adams and Rodgers is any good? Their TEs and WRs are horrible outside of Adams.

That GM and Coach better hope WRs and TEs continue to drop.

I'm repeating what I have read from many sources. Jefferson is said to have trouble getting away from press coverage. Thielen doesn't so why not give Jefferson the slot as much as possible.

You move them based on matchups. Somehow you think that only Thielen plays the slot....he played the slot 60% of the time.

My sources say Jefferson was a top 15 rated guy that dropped to us, so you grab him. We have ton of picks left to get another WR even....mix and match for injuries and def matchups. Tyler Johnson, Jefferson, and Thielen in a 3 wide?

I already pointed out that Thielen is good outside so you are also arguing with a straw man. Just call me the straw man now as it seems many want to attribute stances to me that I simply don't have. I have no problem with us drafting Jefferson. I just happened to like a few others more.

I said in the draft thread right after the pick that Love will be traded for a 3rd in 3 years.

There is only one reason to draft Rodgers---they don't think Rodgers can hold up all season. Still a ton of good QBs on the board.

I don't believe Rodgers is eligible for the 2020 draft. [&:]

OK. Be a quitter.

I really don't get why you wanted to argue with me in the first place when I 90% agreed with you. Must I toe the line and be a full fledged homer for Jefferson? I like him, but he's not perfect.

They really can't cut bait for 2, maybe 3 more years.
