So the Vikings waived Holton Hill.

Guess they are happy with their young CBs Gladney, Dantzler, Boyd and Hand, feel good about Mike Hughes returning and will probably draft about four more in next years Draft.

I thought Hill had some talent and might've been an undrafted steal. but the off the field stuff and drug abuse probably got too distracting.

I don't know why they would bank on Mike Hughes returning. He will never be back for more than a few games.

Tampa is one game better than us and have beaten

panthersx2
chargers
broncos
giants

Not exactly crushing it. It could go either way. Depends on what Vikings team shows up. If we come out passive again we're doomed. Zone with little to no rush can get you by Glennon. Try that with Brady and see what happens [:-]

It's the second time that the Vikings are playing an opponent coming off a bye week. We didn't do well the first time. (Falcons)

Dallas was coming off a bye.

Any way the Vikings get in at 8-8 ? (I think that is their most likely record)

Arizona and 49ers are skidding.

What is the point of us getting in?

This team is mediocre right now.

Being the last team to make it we have to go on the road every week and beat far better teams.

I just don't see us going to the playoffs as beneficial in the long run.

I may change my opinion if we play well against Tampa....but I am not holding my breath.

With a young team, getting them playoff exposure will be beneficial. Not to mention turning around a 1-5 season into a playoff berth.

I don't expect anything this Sunday, if I had to predict a score I'd say 31-17 Bucs but they've proved me wrong plenty of times this season.

I think it will be close, but we'll probably have our hearts ripped out at the end. Hope I'm wrong.

We have a new Viking. He's a tight end. It looks like to me that Smith will not be available again. I guess Tyler Conklin is the only tight end practicing today for the Vikings.

#Vikings plan to sign TE Hale Hentges to 53-man roster, source says. Must go through COVID protocol first & I've been told not likely to be cleared to play Sunday at Bucs. He provides depth due to injuries to Kyle Rudolph, Irv Smith Jr., Brandon Dillon.

Being .500 I'm rooting for the playoffs now. As someone mentioned, high draft pick is shot. While I agree - we don't have a superbowl team with hunter/pierce out, too young at CB, the experience is great. And crazy things happen in the playoffs, both division winners with losing records won the first weekend. NO last year was fun, had low expectations.

Bummed about Holton Hill. He looked great as a rookie, not so much when he started earlier this year. Boyd hasn't impressed me, not seen enough of hand yet. Hughes hasn't played well when not injured, can't see a 5th year picked up. Right now, Gladney and Dantzler look like starters.

They already won too many games to get a highly coveted QB, trader Rick will have to work magic to get one.

With a future franchise QB picked high in the draft spoiled, might as well make the playoffs and give me one last weekend to watch.

While high draft picks are nice to possibly get good players, this organization has repeatedly squandered high draft picks on mediocre or bust type players, or passed on premium players because “ need” over value rules the roost on draft day, for decades...

Troy Williamson, kahli, Erasmus, Underwood.. it goes on and on and on...

There is no doubt that top picks CAN be franchise players, but unless you do your due diligence, and the player wants to play @ the NFL level, and your coaching staff can develop and scheme to use the raw talent.. it is still a crap shoot.

Game sealing INT for Winfield Jr. Why? Because it's us.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2020 8:04:49 PM)

The Vikings traded back with the Saints in the draft. Reportedly the Saints "overpaid". The Vikings could have selected the guard from St. Johns. (Ben Bartch) I'm hearing that he is turning out to be better than good.

These are the players that the Vikings selected in the trade: Troy Dye, Harrison Hand, Blake Brandel and Nate Stanley. Day three picks normally take more time to develop and blossom. Those picks can be very valuable for the team if they prove to be good players because they really help the salary cap situation. So it is too early to have a clear determination of the trade, but....

It sure would be nice to have a solid guard playing for the Vikings this year.

What do you think? I believe Hand has showed the most promise- I could be wrong. Dye has gotten some reps. I don't believe he has distinguished himself, but again, it may be too early. Stanley and Brandel may never play a down. There's a good chance that they don't.

Edit: I have been corrected. It was Lynch instead of Dye that was selected with the Saints picks. Lynch may have more potential than Dye, but he hasn't really distinguished himself either this year. I tell everyone that DT's take longer to develop. The best ones are more man than boy.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/9/2020 8:22:55 PM)

Yeah, my athleticism concerns for Cam Dantzler (mainly 40 time) are completely out the window. There's been times where he's almost been stride for stride with guys like Will Fuller on vertical routes. On the MVS TD wk1, his burst to get himself back into the play was insane too

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/10/2020 5:48:19 AM)

Since week 8, #Vikings Cameron Dantzler has the lowest passer rating when targeted allowed (23.6) among all CBs in the #NFL with at least 75 coverage snaps during that period. He's also 9th in yards allowed per coverage snap at 0.56.

50+ Yard Offensive Plays,
thru Week 13:

Vikings = 5
Chiefs + Buccaneers + Saints = 5

The Vikings have surrendered one play to opponents of 50+ yards.

This the best in the NFL thru 13 weeks.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (12/10/2020 11:27:01 AM)

With Irv Smith Jr. back at practice, it looks like the #Vikings could at least have two tight ends available on Sunday at Tampa, the other being Tyler Conklin.

So our defense doesn't give up the big plays and it's tough on third down. How come it's so crappy?

I guess it's the bend and then bend again defense.

Well we're 29th in 4th-down defense so that might be a thing.

The latest on the injury front for both teams. This time of year a lot of players are hurting. The first seed getting an extra bye week is a big advantage, I believe.

I hope Kendricks and Smith Jr. are ready by Sunday. Smith being able to be on the field without the HMS Rudy could force the coaches into throwing to him more.

We've given up the 3rd most explosive pass plays and have the worst explosive pass play percentage. We give up big plays.
