Wow. Surprised the Grizzlies fired Jenkins. Was there some sort of rift with Morant?

Because the NBA hates repeat winners.

OKC is still a playoff team without Shai.

Denver is a lottery team without Jokic.

He’s, by far, the best player in the game.

Dude is averaging 29/13/11 with 2 steals. And shooting 58/44/82.

Take away all the phantom fouls SGA gets and he'd just be another NBA player.

LOL, if he only had 6-7 FTA per game like so many other stars instead of 9 he'd still be leading or close to leading the league in scoring.

I love watching him play. Does it all, 3s, mid range is his specialty, and getting to the hoop and line.

A throwback type of player instead of just 3s and dunks.

Bill Jandro -> RE: NBA Talk 2020 (4/6/2025 11:16:33 AM)

A very interesting final stretch going on in the west.

Jokic is the most complete player in the NBA.
SGA is still an absolute stud that very few can compare to.

SGA is an elite scorer who can score proficiently at all levels. Jokic is having a video game season 30 pts, 13 reb, 10 ast. He can also score proficiently at all 3 levels.

I go with what David said earlier; take SGA off the Thunder and they are still a playoff team. Take Jokic off the Nuggets and they are a lottery team.

No player in NBA history has ever been in the Top 10 in PPG, RPG, APG and SPG in a single-season.

Jokic in 2024-25 is Top 3 in all those categories.

How bad is his supporting cast?

A week ago, Denver was one win away from the #2 seed in the West, but they lost all four of their next games, so now, in the final week of the regular season, the Nuggets are just one loss away from the Play-In tournament. So, Nikola Jokic most probably lost his 2025 MVP award thanks to this 4-game losing streak despite averaging this week's unreal 45-12-11-2 (ts%73%) numbers!?

Jokic is now 10 years in and still hasn't played with an Al-NBA guy, let alone an All-Star. When you tie up 50% of your cap on guys like Murray and MPJ, you're really not asking to be all that competitive. The only reason the Nuggets aren't battling it out to get Flagg is because Jokic is a top 10 player of all time.

Yeah. But no way he'd go back to Denver as long as Kroenke owns the team.

I think its much more likely he hires Malone if we flame out.

This is true. Now Kroenke will reap what he's sown.

Wolves should probably fire their coach too after lasts nights debacle against the Bucks.

Thibs complaining about Brunson not getting calls. The guy(brunson) flops around like a fish out of water most of the game. Lucky for him the NBA doesn't do the flopping calls anymore.

Did they ever call them? They should it's not fun to watch.

Elliot -> RE: NBA Talk 2020 (5/2/2025 9:37:34 AM)

I see Teflon 'Bron is at it again. When asked by Jovan Buha if the Lakers' center-less play style eventually caught up to them in the MN series, his response in joking was "No comment...My guy (Anthony Davis), said what he needed, and he was gone the following week. So I got no comment. I put that uniform on every night gave everything I had, and that's all that matters."

Regarding AD saying what he needed, the inference was to a statement Davis had made about preferring to play the 4 rather than the 5, and the implication that it was this request that fast tracked his trade to the Mavs.

So, I guess the takeaway is that LeBron is just a simple employee. He had no influence whatsoever in the Luka acquisition. But it kinda begs the question, what does it mean to be "Bron's Guy," because it certainly doesn't seem to mean that he will fight to keep you on the roster. [&:] The natural follow-up, which never seems to get asked, is: Were you shocked and upset when the rug was pulled out from under you, and your guy, AD, was traded?

Obviously LBJ was major reason Lakers won in 2020. But, since then him and his agent have bullied "their guys" onto the roster and it hasn't been good.

Find a team like Knicks who will come up short this year and think that adding LBJ can put them over the hump. It would probably have to involve another team to make the money work.

It was fine to run it back in 2021 and 2022 but they should have blown it up after that. It was apparent that many teams in the West had surpassed them.

Jeannie Buss likes the sold out crowds but forgot how her dad loved the crowds and championships.

LBJ is going to hang around next year to the tune of $50+ million. He has the player option, local interests, and reportedly will not take a pay cut.

The team needs a lot, and there isn't much to work with. Expect time in limbo, like when they gifted Kobe two years of high salary.

Nice to see Harden find the familiar, warm embrace of yet another sub-par playoff performance.[&:]

Karl Juhnke -> RE: NBA Talk 2020 (5/6/2025 7:30:07 AM)

Denver beats OKC in game 1. Just a reminder that it’s nice to have a player who can occasionally win a game for you all by himself.

Not a model for sustained success though. OKC in 6.

David Jerde -> RE: NBA Talk 2020 (5/6/2025 4:15:27 PM)

the pressure of lofty expectations is entirely the burden of OKC and I’m not convinced they’re there yet - Denver in 7

<edit I should expound on my line of thinking>
OKC feels a bit like the Wolves of Saunders coaching era - able to play regular season strongly bc constructed to win when D was softer. come playoffs, the opponents have time to game plan and defense matters.

Absolutely horrible coaching down the stretch by Daigneault.
