ORIGINAL: Murph I really liked the Mond pick but wonder if we should have been more aggressive pursuing Fields? Keep him from the Bears too. Time will tell. Clip below from McAfee's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPPbSvvoti4 According to Simms, Mond is better than Fields. Just the fact that the Bears drafted Fields makes me question him as prospect. When I was doing my evaluation of QB's for this years draft class, my board went Wilson, Lawrence, Jones, Lance, Mills, Mond then Fields. I have never confessed to being the best evaluator for QB's, but although Fields is a great athlete, there are many other intangibles that I feel he lacks when compared to the others in the group. we shall see, but I was very happy when the Bears took him, he doesn't frighten me one bit. As I mentioned in an earlier, I'm not sold on Mond being a top tier QB in the NFL, but he does have some of the traits you are looking for and the other areas of his game that are suspect are areas that can be developed, so you never know. He might just pan out, but arm strength is not a weakness for him (as mentioned in a quote from another post). Decision making is where he needs to improve, footwork and arm motion can also be refined, but he has time, do the Vikings have the coaches for this task, not sure. I'm not at all sold on Mills either, given he has been pretty injury plagued. With Mond, you also have to consider that he had the worst set of receivers of anyone in the top 5 QB picks. Time will tell what we have in Mond. I think he was a good pick in round 3. The Vikes have two years to work with him and see what they have. In the mean time, I think it's safe to say that he is an upgrade over Manion as our backup. I'm glad the Vikings didn't wait until the 6th / 7th round to take someone to compete with the last guy they took in the 6th/7th for the practice squad.
