Paul Allen on KFAN said DE Everson Griffen “desperately wants to come back to the Minnesota #Vikings.”

Griffen texted Allen that he “bleeped up” with his tweets regarding Cousins and that it was wrong.

Allen also mentioned Griffen still has people in his corner with the team

I just don't know if we can bring him back (Griffen)....probably rather have Houston if needed....Thoughts?

Is scheme familiar and possible team schism Griffin a better choice than Houston?

Well, I loved the pick when we got him out of USC way back when, and although the nostalgic vibe is high, I believe there are better ways to spend our remaining cap space. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Griff fan, but what's best for the team has to win out! I'm not sure we need another edge guy. Yes, there may be injuries, etc., but we have four young guys that have promise to go along with Hunter and Weatherly. I don't know a lot about Robinson, but the film I have watched reminds me of when we drafted Hunter, I went and found as much film as I could and he reminds me of the same type of player, i.e., strong against the run, going to grow as a pass rusher.

I say bring in a #3 WR, (Dede would currently be my choice), extend Smith and O'Neal to get some good vibes going in camp and get busy preparing for the season.

I really like the blend of youth and experience RS has assembled. He may have his quirks, but I think the Vikings could have it much worse than to have him as the GM. This roster has the feel of something special and I can't wait to see what happens if we get off on a fast start and these guys get to feeling good about themselves. With this roster, it could very well happen!

Always liked Grif. He is a shoe in for the Viking ring of honor.

I'd certainly consider bringing him back if his mental health is stable.

I think Justin Houston would be whom I'd target first though. If we can't land him at a reasonable price then bring in Grif.

Still think a vet G is the higher priority at this juncture.

G is based on a wing and a prayer, however at least they did a couple of things there (Davis, Ezra to left side). Meanwhile, they did nothing at C where Bradbury has been used, abused, and tossed around like a rag doll. Technically they signed G/C Cole off the scrap heap but he's suited as a backup.

That is my major concern at guard. We are going into another season with Dakota Dozier as the man to beat on the depth chart. Davis may take the job as expected. He may not be physically ready or need time to get better. He may bust. That means Dozier not only is the honorary top of the depth chart to start camp, he is plan B.

Bradbury is less of a concern to me. If he is flanked by better guard play, he will likely look better in the passing game. He still needs to add a little strength to his frame.

Its a good point. Dozier behind a legitimate G is fine as a plan B … you cant have solid backups at every position. Dozier as a plan B behind, not a #1 or #2 but a #3 (#3c to boot), makes him presumptive starter until usurper Davis can take that spot. If ever.

I’m glad we have gone hog wild on defense, for sure. Homers will point out the offense put up good yardage last season so we are not that far off to begin with. But … we cannot win in the playoffs with last years interior OL simply flipping sides around Bradbury dough boy.

Still some OL work to be done.

Kirk Cousins averaged 4.9 yards per carry last season, a career high since becoming a full-time starter in 2015.

This backs up (sorta) what I noticed about KC last year - and I'm pretty sure I've commented on it in the last month or so.

He looked to me like someone who woke up to the idea of getting some free yards and first downs last year - at least at the end of the year.

The offensive yardage was a bi-product of sorts of the terrible defense. Consider the Tampa Bay Bucs offensive ranking by yards for the five years Winston was QB:

2015 #5 offense by yards 6-10
2016 #18 offense by yards 9-7
2017 #9 offense by yards 5-11
2018 #3 offense by yards 5-11
2019 #3 offense by yards 7-9

Defensive ranking by yards those same years starting with 2015: 10, 23, 32, 27, 15

Team rankings must be taken in context.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/2/2021 12:42:07 PM)

I mention the rankings thing because rest assured when the 2021 season starts opposing defenses won't give a rip about our yardage rankings. They're also not going to waste time designing special schemes to stop Jefferson, Thielen, and Cook. They're going to come at our interior offensive line all day long and try to disrupt our gameplan that way.

The entire season's success rests on Cleveland, Bradbury, and Davis. That's not to say we'll have a losing record if those guys fail. We'll still win a lot of games regardless because our roster is stacked everywhere else. I just don't think we can go deep in the playoffs unless those guys play well. I'm hoping for Cleveland and Davis to pull us through. I have no reason to believe they can't. Bradbury should have been replaced. Too late now.

Agreed but Dozier as plan B is extremely troublesome. We're talking about the worst rated G in the NFL. Hopefully Cole is plan B which still puts both players a step higher on the pecking order than what they should be.

This team will never be relevant if the IOL isn't upgraded. We have a potential upgrade in Davis and Ezra/Bradbury improving which could happen but our depth is bottom of the barrel

The play action and smoke n mirrors works early in games but if teams know we have to pass it's good night Irene.

Yeah ... I totally agree. I also agree with Bill ... Bradbury's spot may be the most troublesome, at least there's some competition/flux at G ... and both Gs play next to a better player on the outside ... Bradbury is starting to smell like Elflein which means he's entrenched (in theory only) at C for one more year before switching to G in 2022. [:-]

Every team we play in the playoffs are going to abuse us with pass rushers from the inside, the same way we hosed the Saints two years ago.

Good one Tom. Considering O'Neal has been Spielmans only good oline draft pick during his entire tenure as gm should give everyone pause regarding Darrisaw and Davis.

YES! And I wonder how did those Bucs teams do as far as getting early leads against quality opponents, or decent opposition on the road ? And how did the Vikings do in regards to that last year ?

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/3/2021 8:32:26 AM)

More early leads, and the logical result is your defends climbs in rankings, in turnovers, but could slide in giving up more yardage.

After his first two years, it's understandable to hear concern about Bradbury, I just feel he will be much better this year. NFL history is full of stories of players who took a few years to develop an "NFL body", especially O-line guys. I'm not saying he hasn't struggled, that's been well documented, but the areas of his game that need work are areas that he and his team have the ability to effect. We will see how he's prepared for this season as we get in to camp. If he has done his work properly, he will be much stronger in the haunches, which has been his shortfall to date. He simply needs/needed to build up his anchor strength and that is doable.

I understand the concern, but I believe at the end of this year, we will be able to judge if he is going to be the next long term center for the Vikings!
