Source said Dennison has not been fired at this point. It’s very possible that’s where things end up, if the sides remain at an impasse on vaccination, but he remains with the team as of now.

Buzz kill…[;)]

Ugh, hanging around like Richard Solomon.

I doubt this firing will have much (if any) negative effect on the Vikings performance this season. Heck there's probably an OK chance that it HELPS a bit. In 2020 the dude was like 'Let's start Dozier and Elflien. Elf's hurt? Put Samia in.'

Another Donald Trump casualty.

Name the original NFL teams (from 1969) that now reside in the AFC.

Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers

That is such a buzz-kill. Ughh.

Dede news is nice though.
How long since we’ve had a threat at 3rd wideout?

How many Vikings players are still unvaccinated? Any chance they protest if Dennison is indeed fired over not getting vaccinated?

Mattison tweeted support for Dennison:

Smh, they act as if we didn’t successfully play a whole season last year. Don’t make no sense. I’m rockin wit you 100% coach.

https://twitter.com/AlexMattison22/status/1418638166140104706

But it didn't go over very well:

Y’all on here going crazy in my Comments & DMs. Wishing things upon me and disrespecting me as a human being over a vaccine??? This is beyond me.

Mattison is not anti vaccine -- he's filmed a commercial encouraging people to get the vaccine:

The Vikings were not ever listed among the teams below 50%.

To my knowledge, they haven't been listed among the teams above 85%.

The fraction of NFL players vaccinated is around 80%, last I saw a summary number. So maybe higher now.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/24/2021 10:16:59 AM)

Here’s the real deal..

if you want to choose to stand on your right to choose freely, despite what the government of your city, state, nation, and the people in charge of the business you are employed by, suggest you do for the common safety and viability of others.

So be it.

That’s your right.

But don’t pick and choose to harm others and the business that pays you.

If you can’t take a simple shot, because some anti Biden or ultra conservative “ my pillow “ influencer on social media has more control over your mentality than, the 150 million + who have taken and survived, just fine, thank you, the same vaccine that has you peeing and whining like some 2 year old…

Go **** yourself, get the **** off my football team, I truly hope you get the chance to make the same sacrifice that 10’s of thousands did before the vaccination was so easily available.

I include everyone who “ stands on a religious or moral principle”, in my desire to have you sacrifice your health, job, maybe even your life…

I certainly care about you, as much as you apparently care about yourself and others.

GTFOOHWTS, you blithering idiot.

What the United States needs is to have some high-profile player die because of COVID because it was spread by someone else on the team. The country doesn't care about Joe Blow, the anti-vaxer from Stone Mountain, Georgia. But if Patrick Mahomes drops dead, the lines to get vaccinated in Kansas City would be off the hook. I know it sounds gruesome, but true.

The #Vikings still have a few details to work out with Dede Westbrook, but they’re moving toward a deal with him after working him out today, according to a league source. Westbrook would reunite with Keenan McCardell for a fifth season.[8|]

Vikings sign former Jaguars receiver Dede Westbrook to one-year deal
Westbrook joins a deep Vikings receiving corps
Bryan DeArdo

By Bryan DeArdo
With training camp on the horizon, the Vikings have added a veteran receiver to their roster. Minnesota has signed former Jaguars wideout Dede Westbrook, according to multiple reports. Westbrook told Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press that he is "super excited" to join the Vikings, where he will be reunited with receiving coach Keenan McCardell. McCardell was the Jaguars' receivers coach throughout Westbrook's time in Jacksonville.
"Keenan's like a father figure to me," Westbrook told Tomasson, via Pro Football Talk. "I respect him and everything that he's ever taught me and done for me."
A fourth-round pick in the 2017 draft, Westbrook is nine months removed from suffering an ACL tear that prematurely ended his 2020 season. The injury apparently did not hinder Westbrook during his visit with the Vikings, one of several teams who reportedly expressed interest in signing him this offseason. The 49ers and Bengals reportedly had made contact with Westbrook's representatives prior to him coming to Minnesota.

The 6-foot, 178-pound Westbrook caught 160 of 254 targets for 1,720 yards and nine touchdowns in 40 regular-season games with Jacksonville. During the 2018 and '19 seasons, he caught a combined 132 passes for 1,377 yards and eight touchdowns. As a rookie, Westbrook caught seven passes during the Jaguars' run to the AFC Championship Game. Westbrook was also utilized on special teams in Jacksonville. He had 47 punt returns that included a 74-yard return for a score during the 2018 season.

Westbrook joins a solid Vikings receiving corps that includes two-time Pro Bowler Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, who earned Pro Bowl honors as a rookie after recording an NFL rookie record 1,400 receiving yards. The Vikings' depth chart at receiver also includes Chad Beebe, Bisi Johnson and fifth-round pick Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

About as superbowly a team as you can assemble in one off season. Obviously we weren't building from scratch luckily but man we're deep and talented.

It'll boil down to chemistry.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/24/2021 10:26:13 PM)

The buzz on social media is that the deal is going to be worth around $2.5 million.

Westbrook would appear to be the favorite to secure the WR3 job with the Vikings, but there’s also a distinct possibility that he will open Training Camp this week on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List. The reason for that is because he tore his ACL back in Week 7 of last year and there’s a decent chance that he’s still recovering. However, he worked out for the Vikings today and apparently they liked what they saw enough to keep him around.

This is also going to make things a little more difficult for guys like Chad Beebe, Bisi Johnson, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Perhaps not right away, because of Westbrook does start camp on the PUP List he won’t count against the 90-man roster. If he were to start the regular season on the PUP List, he would have to miss the first six games of the season, which would still leave a spot for one of those receivers. And, as mentioned in yesterday’s post about him, he could definitely help out as a punt returner, a category where the Vikings were the worst in the NFL in 2020...daily norseman

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/25/2021 8:31:21 AM)

I thought this was interesting given the context of some of the conversations around here - and the lack of others allows me to post this in good conscience.

The quarterback w/the most 4th quarter comebacks in a single season is Matthew Stafford w/8 in 2016

The Lions made the playoffs that season and haven’t made them since

Stafford’s late game ability is another element added to the @RamsNFL’s already dynamic offense

++ on the Westbrook signing.

Considering the cap situation this offseason and not having a 2nd rounder, the regime has done about as well as they could. Yeah another G and bonafide pass rusher would be great but they can't address everything. Plus resources were needed to replace idiots like Gladney who IMO won't be around this season and 50-50 whether he will ever play again.

Lots of question marks not only with chemistry, especially on D with ~ half being projected new starters, but also whether the acquisitions can hold their ground one-on-one.

Why did Denver have success with Dennison as OL coach ?

Better at drafting, got lore aggressive, or had better luck with FA OL ? Some other reason ?

Lawd!

Last year's special teams were dismal, ranking average, at best, in key categories like:
kick return average (16th),
punt return average (last),
punt coverage (23rd),
kick coverage (24th),
field goal percentage (last), and
extra-point percentage (29th).

Only direction one can go from here is UP!

In many cases your best special teams guys are also your backups I think we had more than our share that got pushed into regular duty which meant that lesser guys manned their spots on special teams
