I know it's all subjective but you can argue for Jefferson against most of those guys. Look at Metcalf. 2 more starts with less receptions, yards and average. He was more known for his defensive stop last year. Mike Evans? Not even close. Ridley was pretty comparable and that surprised me.

If Jefferson Duplicates what he did last year he will leap into the top 10 easily.

Thielen is what he is, a very good route runner with great hands.

Thielen is also big and fast. put those together with very good route runner with great hands and you just might have a top 10 WR. Debatable.

2020 All-Pro wr

1st team
Adams
Diggs
Hill

2nd team
Hopkins
Jefferson
Ridley
Metcalf
Beasley

Look at the QB's throwing to the top 3. Rogers, Allen, Mahomes.

I'd put JJ up on the first team and drop Adams or Diggs

Look at the QB throwing to Jefferson. One of the most accurate in the league particularly on deep passes. JJ doesn't do as well if he had an average QB.

Has our quarterback learned how to run a two-minute drill yet?

A quick plug for our 4th round RB. Not only is Nwangwu athletically gifted he is also academically/intellectually gifted.

Nwangwu Named Big 12 Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year
12.22.2020

Kene Nwangwu
IRVING, Texas – Iowa State running back/kickoff returner Kene Nwangwu was named the 2020 Big 12 Football Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced today by the league office.

Nwangwu is the first Cyclone football player to pick up the award.

The redshirt senior from Frisco, Texas had a fantastic final season as a Cyclone, ranking seventh nationally (minimum 10 returns) in kickoff return average at 29.1. He has five returns of 30+ yards on the year, including two over 65 yards that aided ISU comeback victories over Oklahoma and Baylor.

Nwangwu's career 26.85 kickoff return average is No. 1 in Iowa State history and is ninth nationally among active FBS players.

The senior has also been a terrific backup to the nation's leading rusher Breece Hall. Nwangwu has rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

Nwangwu is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. He earned his degree from Iowa State, maintaining a 3.76 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.

Big 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year
The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Every Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport with the winners selected by a vote of the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.

Being smart could be a good thing. Hopefully he's not only classroom smart, but gridiron smart as well.

Couple of spunky players out of both Iowa & ISU. Nice!

I'm considering The Athletic for at least training camp - does anyone else have it?

Yeah. I've had it from the start. They always run deals where you can get a year really cheap.

They have some of the better writers for most sports.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 12:46:10 PM)

Tom Pelissero

The NFL just informed clubs that if a game cannot be rescheduled during the 18-week season in 2021 due to a COVID outbreak among unvaccinated players, the team with the outbreak will FORFEIT and be credited with a loss for playoff seeding, per sources.

Massive implications.

--------------

The league intends to play its entire 272-game schedule over 18 weeks (17 games per club). And this is key:

"We do not anticipate adding a '19th week' to accommodate games that cannot be rescheduled within the current 18 weeks of the regular season."

Play on time or don't play.

-------------

Here’s more from today’s memo, which also says the team responsible for a canceled game because of an outbreak among unvaccinated players/staff will be responsible for financial losses and subject to potential discipline from the commissioner. Wow.

-------------

Other key competitive aspect of today's memo:

Vaccinated individuals who test positive and are asymptomatic can return to duty after two negative tests 24 hours apart.

Unvaccinated individuals still subject to mandatory 10-day isolation period.

------------

More strong language from today's NFL memo:

"Every club is obligated under the Constitution and Bylaws to have its team ready to play at the scheduled time and place. A failure to do so is deemed conduct detrimental. There is no right to postpone a game."

------------

This is the NFL's strongest step yet to incentivize vaccinations. In essence, vaccination status dictates action:

"If a club cannot play due to a Covid spike in vaccinated individuals, we will attempt to minimize the competitive and economic burden on both participating teams."

------------

And the biggest penalty of all for players:

"If a game is cancelled and cannot be rescheduled within the current 18-week scheduled due to a Covid outbreak, neither team’s players will receive their weekly paragraph 5 salary."

You read that right: NOBODY GETS PAID.

Thank you! I saw a $1 month for 6 months the other day and didn't jump on it - bad move.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 1:06:20 PM)

If a player doesn't get vaccinated he better me damn good or he might get cut. Not worth the headache.

So it's de facto mandatory. They should just say so and move on.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 2:07:31 PM)

Legally I doubt they can.

But they can make it extremely difficult on people who don't.

Its like here in Vegas. If you're a card dealer or a stripper you don't HAVE to get a vaccination. But if you don't, you need to be tested before every shift. And that's on your dime.

The owners probably need an agreement with the NFLPA, to make vaccination mandatory. But it seems likely that the league owners control rules like the COVID forfeit, and the contracts likely support no-game-no-pay.

I had to let mine lapse because it gets spendy and my wife has been out of work. It all depends on the writers for the teams you follow; the broad-based (league-wide, across sports, etc) writers are stellar.

bohumm -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 3:55:16 PM)

I thought I read that the team that forfeits has to pay everyone on both teams without the benefit of revenue from the game.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 5:35:00 PM)

ESPN article says: If the forfeit occurs, players from both teams will lose their game checks. The team that suffered the outbreak would be responsible for any shortfall in the league's revenue-sharing pool and also would be credited with a loss for the purposes of playoff seeding, with the opposing team credited with a win.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 5:42:24 PM)

A forfeit will be called in 2021 if all of the following circumstances occur:

• A game is postponed by requirement of government authorities or medical experts, or at the discretion of the commissioner, because of ongoing health concerns of an outbreak.

• The league can't find a suitable date to reschedule within the 18-week framework of the regular season.

• The original postponement was caused by an outbreak among unvaccinated players of one team.

Would be interesting to see the details.
So is it just among the unvaccinated players?
What if both teams have an outbreak? A tie game?

What'cha say Harrison Smith?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 5:49:00 PM)

Maybe players can rethink saying "Going to war/battle." Cause last time I checked, for a REAL war you line up and get your damn shots before going. And get some molars pulled if needed. No opting out for $350,000 a year.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (7/22/2021 6:23:43 PM)

I'm guessing the NFLPA will take this to court. Sounds like the shield is trying to strong arm some issues that we're never collectively bargained.

Making the players pay for revenue losses if a game is cancelled is a serious reach. Let's say a factory has to be shut down due to a covid breakout. Are the factory workers suppose to pay the factory owner for losses he suffered?

It would be if that was the case. But its not...

"If a game is cancelled and cannot be rescheduled within the current 18-week scheduled due to a Covid outbreak, neither team’s players will receive their weekly paragraph 5 salary."

Has nothing to do with: "The team that suffered the outbreak would be responsible for any shortfall in the league's revenue-sharing pool"

The "team" in the second statement is the franchise, not the players. Players lose their paychecks for the week. They have no other financial obligations.

In your factory worker example, the workers would not be paid their salary while out of work. They wouldn't be paying the mortgage on the factory itself.

Yes, "the team" as in, for simplicity, the owner(s). So for us, Zygi and his fellow criminals.

What is confusing you?

Also you left out the trailing italics symbol so weirdly my post is in italics.
