watching Ezra's growth from putting up a debut performance on par with Dru Samia to improving each week has been awesome.

no offseason, wasn't drafted to be a guard, won the competition for RG anyway, played against Grady Jarrett, Kenny Clark, and Akiem Hicks in 3 of 4 starts.

What?

Yeah. By default after utter failure by a couple others. You're right. That was another point though, about the coaching. They should have put the talented rookie out there, even if to take some lumps in development. Coaching decisions have stunk.

This.

Interesting thought that I hadn't considered myself:

I wonder if the Vikings are thinking about trying any of their corners at safety this year. Patrick Peterson isn’t moving, but Harrison Hand could be a candidate. Maybe Mike Hughes, who is now probably fifth on the CB depth chart? Kris Boyd?

(Will Ragatz on Twitter)

Ragatz must have written this in response to the Vikings reuniting with Mackenzie Alexander again. My first reaction is "who is going to start?" My second reaction is cross of CB off the list for draft day. It's a crowded room, now. (unless Hand goes to safety)

I think we will move Hand to safety. If the Mac deal is true, Hand will fit in well on the back end of the defense.

Hand and Boyd are physical guys who seem to have to give WRs a cushion when playing CB. Maybe Safety is their best position.

Yep. Hand needs room to move and react to what's in front of him.

I still want to draft a safety. This a good draft for them.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/27/2021 9:17:39 AM)

Deep CB draft as well. Hughes could get his walking papers.

Competition at CB. Nice problem to have.

Hopefully the OLine gets the same kind of attention in the coming months.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/27/2021 4:20:45 PM)

Barring injury, we may not see a rookie play on defense.- not just starting, but playing.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/28/2021 1:00:34 PM)

17th game info.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/29/2021 8:56:14 AM)

NFL is expected to expand the regular season schedule this week to 17 games. The league had played a 16-game regular season schedule since 1978, by far the longest stretch without a change in NFL history.

Per Adam Schefter

Like there was ever any doubt.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/29/2021 8:58:59 AM)

Being this 17th game will be a nonconference opponent I'm guessing the bulk of these games will be featuring back up players being most of the playoff seeding won't be effected.

Not sure about that. A 'W' is a 'W' those carry a heck of a lot more weight when it comes to making the playoffs or not making the playoffs.

Not very often I can remember a team not making the playoffs because their W's were not the good kind. Sure it happens but not often enough to just mail it in for a game.

True. But I believe this will be the very last game of the season where the last game in previous years would usually be against a divisional opponent.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/29/2021 9:54:14 AM)

They should play in neutral cities vying for NFL franchises. (either by a team moving or expansion). San Antonio comes to mind- probably a good place to play in January. Speaking of January, nobody wants to play in a northern city outdoors in January. Orlando would be a good choice, too.

I was thinking 1 preseason game per team could be neutral site and likely generate some decent interest in some spots.

Preseason sucks anyway.

It remains to be seen what possibly could happen with #Vikings CB Mike Hughes' roster status after signing of CB Mackensie Alexander. Regardless, I was told today Hughes is fully healthy. He's recovered after spending final 10 weeks of 2020 on injured reserve due to neck injury.

we don't save any cap space by cutting him, but trading him could be an option....

$1.2M cap savings by cutting him.

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/29/2021 12:26:23 PM)

As of this moment the Vikes have about $7.3M in cap space. It seems to me that the rookie pool will add about $3M to our total leaving us with about $4.3M in space which I would guess we would want to keep in case injuries force us to sign a street free agent. We could still restructure Harrison Smith and gain enough space for one more significant free agent. Maybe the team feels set? It seems to me that we really really really really really really really need a significant free agent guard to pair with a high draft pick guard.

You might but the owners wont. Unless you guarantee the owners of the "home" game all the gate and concessions for the game go to them.

But I don't see that happening.

I think it is a great idea, but anything that might negatively impact the bottom line for a billionaire is not going to happen.

Um it wont be that game in week 18 necessarily. It just means they will have another Non conference game on the schedule and now 9-8 may or may not get you into the playoffs.

Wins still count. This one will just count a bit less for tie breaker purposes.

I'd keep him. He's cheap enough that he can suck.
