I guess the Vikings go with the analytics geek.

I get analytics in baseball, I don't have a good grasp of how that translates to football which is based on physical matchups and schemes.

looks like it

We got a GM yet?

The Cleveland Browns seem likely to lose Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to the Minnesota Vikings very soon according to multiple reports. As we shared previously, Adofo-Mensah was one of two finalists for the Vikings general manager job and scheduled for a second interview on Tuesday.

And just maybe he is more than that. Well, according to at least one article he is more than that.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 12:59:19 PM)

Do people think his interviews are built around a bunch of analytics and numbers?

bgdavis -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 1:48:17 PM)

I'm not sure if Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will be our next GM, but I suspect he probably has examples of his analytics-based draft rankings from the past few seasons. During the interview, he could have shown which players the team might have selected instead if they'd been using that type of ranking system, and those results may have really impressed the Wilfs.

Also, Mark Wilf and Kwesi went to Princeton, so they have that in common.

Interesting that Poles was supposed to have a 2nd interview with us tomorrow.

I guess DeMeco Ryans is the hot name for HC.

It sounds like the bears are signing Poles as we speak.

Right. That's why I thought it was interesting. I guess we'll know know if we got our 1st choice or not.

Funny thing about GMs and coaches....usually the best isn't the first one hired (of of the list). Let the Bears decide our GM; that would have worked in our favor 90% for coaches and GM in the last decade. Big key is keep our cap guy happy and get someone who can pick the right coach and assemble a crew to master the draft better.

He seemed like he was a shoe in for us. And I didn't hear anything on the radio down here about how he did in his interview with the bears. So, that one kind of surprised me. I hope the rumors are true and they are considering Frazier for their HC job.

Draft and salary cap are going to be huge issues for us the next season or two.

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 2:14:45 PM)

I'm down with KAM for GM...

I know I liked that Poles was an OL guy and all that, but this guy seems like he is not an ego guy, but rather wants input from everyone

I bet the incoming coach will appreciate that...

Now lets hire the right fit for coach...

Leaning toward Morris, Flores or Ryans for my taste, but just let it be a good fit

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 2:28:46 PM)

Darren Wolfson@DWolfsonKSTP

Text today from someone who has worked with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah: #Vikings

A brilliant, well-rounded leader with a great sense of humor and fantastic people skills. He's natural collaborator that will build a culture of inclusivity and bring out the best of every perspective in terms of decision-making. The organization will be in great hands if he is the hire.

That sounds positive. A little different than what was going on with the last guy.

I started out wanting a personnel / scouting guy for GM and young OC for coach ...

so we're right on track for positive things happening!

I will say this ... I didn't like that Poles whole career was with one organization, even as well as KC is run. Without having any insight into the candidates, I prefer someone with more varied experience to pick and choose from.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 3:28:01 PM)

Listening to our former GM talk about how they looked for the "it factor" when judging QB's and how you need to make sure that guy can get it done with the pressure on (ala Allen/Rodgers/Mahomes) on the Herd just about made me puke.

being with only one organization wasn't even a point I had considered, but it seems to be a good one, though...

KAM seems to have a breadth of experience that many GM's don't have, so maybe we will be getting a great hire in him

I heard that also, all I could think of was Ponder and his comment about being most nfl ready qb of draft.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 4:12:00 PM)

If we go with the numbers guy do we want a HC that's of the same mindset or do we want someone to balance that with gut and feel? Intelligence with passion.

KAM: numbers
Like minded think tank: numbers

yup yup yup yup yup

IDK. If this guy is supposedly so willing to collect the thoughts of others I want other thinking thoughts.

Really? Spielman?

Did he say Cousins had 'it' (as in the it factor)

or did he call Cousins 'it', as in a neutered subject of a verb (it threw the hail mary out of bounds!)?

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 5:11:40 PM)

We needed this guy a few years ago...

How Adofo-Mensah performed in 2021:

Perhaps the smartest thing Berry and Adofo-Mensah have done since taking over is slow-playing a Baker Mayfield contract extension. When the Bills gave Josh Allen the second-richest contract in NFL history prior to the 2021 season, many thought Mayfield was next.

But the Browns were wary of paying a top-of-the-market wage to a good-but-not-great player. Mayfield went on to have a terrible 2021 (thanks in large part to significant injuries), and now the Browns owe him just $18.9 million next year. Then, they can walk away if his performance doesn’t improve. Quarterback aside, the Browns have one of the most talented rosters in football and were much better than their 8-9 record.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/25/2022 5:14:31 PM)

May have dodged a bullet if Poles was our 1st choice:

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported on Monday that Poles had been in contact with former Indianapolis and Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell as well as Dallas defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles about the coaching vacancy.

And unless Poles is sold on Justin Fields; picking the bears over the Vikings, doesn't seem wise, all things considered.

What has this franchise ever done that worked?

Zimmer and the parade of OC’s that resulted in nepotism?

Brad Childress and his. Kick ass offense and Leslie Frazier “gotta look at the tape” defense?

The Vikings haven’t been to a Super Bowl, since Bud Grant was still the coach, in 1977… I was 19 the day that game was played..

At this point, I’m ready to try ouija boards and rolling dice for playcalling and defense..
