Jason LaCanfora said that we are “very open” to trading Kirk, with Seattle or Indy being possible partners. We’ll see.

Please make it happen!

To Seattle so I can watch their fans be unhappy

Ha! IF it were to happen, I would prefer he go to Indy. Maybe we could finagle Q Nelson out of the deal, plus lose a pantload of his salary cap hit to shore up other weak spots on the roster.

Indy has $70 million in cap space. They're one of the few teams that could pay Kirk or Watson's salary.

bohumm -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/12/2022 6:50:09 PM)

Kirk is probably not going to bring back a great return because he's currently on a one-year deal at $35 million, and doesn't seem to be willing to extend at anything reasonable. So he's an expensive rental at this point.

JJDEMARAY@JJDEMARAY
The Minnesota Vikings had the 26th rated OL, the 31st rated defense, and a HC who was clueless when it came to clock management, but hey Kirk Cousins it's your fault we were below .500 this year, even though you were 4th in the NFL in Passer Rating.

Judd Zulgad@jzulgad
Tweets like this continue to confuse and inflame a fan base that deserves better. The issues with Kirk start with his contract. At his price, Kirk stops you from improving your roster. Second, you aren't in a winning window. Now is the time to reset. This isn't hard.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 6:31:54 AM)

Going to be hard to get much compensation for kirk whom is unwilling to accept a fair contract. He is only concerned about himself and needs to be gone even if all we get is a ham sandwich.

If the new regime is serious about changing the culture in this locker room all "me first" players need to go.

Chris Olson -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 9:00:30 AM)

I'm kind of dumbfounded that we are inquiring about Watson...really any team

Also dumbfounded that the criminal cases were dropped...

I suppose the smart GM will do due diligence on all options, but despite his talent, Watson is not hirable imo

How can anyone root for this guy?

i think that the vikings are making a move for deshaun watson....

cousins and three 1st rounders....

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 9:23:00 AM)

There's no way.

Agreed
I would be very down on Kwesi if we even tried to get him
🤮

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 9:30:43 AM)

Watson's cap hit the next few years is around $40M per.

With Cousins we'll have a tough time rebuilding because of his contract.
With Watson we'll have a tough time rebuilding because of his contract, and lack of draft resources.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 9:58:16 AM)

.

we go for the gold this season....

redu watson's deal
redu hunter's deal
redu theilen's deal
redu Kendrick'd deal
redu theilen's deal
redu smith's deal

cut pierce
cut ham

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 10:03:47 AM)

watson's present cap hit for a trading team....

$35mm
$37mm
$32mm
$32mm

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 10:47:47 AM)

Heard some talk that there's been no low balling Cousins. That if he was willing to play ball...a little then he'd be their guy. That is their 1st choice.

But Cousins wants another inflexible short term contract at 40 to 45.

Sounds like he wants them to trade him

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 10:51:28 AM)

What an exciting week this is going to be! Plenty of surprises ahead no doubt.

lyle chabot -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 10:52:40 AM)

I am a little surprised that the vikes have not made any movement on the cap issue yet

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 11:15:24 AM)

That comment from Judd is spot on:

"Tweets like this continue to confuse and inflame a fan base that deserves better. The issues with Kirk start with his contract. At his price, Kirk stops you from improving your roster. Second, you aren't in a winning window. Now is the time to reset. This isn't hard."

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 11:24:40 AM)

So the Vikings could be a surprise team that is interested in Watson:

all they have to do is flick hunter's switch two minutes before the 2022 league year starts....

they have to extrapolate how much cap space we need for the new deals first....

i think that kwesi and brzezinski started playing with the math and realized that we're a lot closer to pulling this off than they thought....

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 12:07:36 PM)

Watson will likely go to Seattle.

They have a dump truck of picks to offer.

Nonsense. We are in serious cap doodoo this year.

Meeting the cap won't be that hard but adding subtracting players will be a giant task if we do it the right way.

Next year we're 60M under the projected cap but that's with like 3.67 players on the roster.

An no, we are not interested in Watson. Period.

No new regime is going to stake their franchise on a guy still being raked through the mud of civil trials, nfl repercussions and social backlashing.

Viking Saint Indy Carolina fans are the only humans on the planet that are completely insensitive to the dude's accusations. I hope a giant defense team conspiracy is revealed, no woman was abused and Watson is completely exonerated ... but proof is still a ways away, if at all.

I wonder.

All our tradeable assets have question marks. Which means we may not be able to get fair trade value. Especially Cousins.

All of them - if we can't find a suitable deal - have a much bigger cap impact by being released post-June 1.

I hope I'm wrong ... I usually am wrong ... but I could see a very mild winter and spring in vikingland.

At least we bagged ourselves a McGill, so there's that.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/13/2022 1:07:29 PM)

.
.
it could be a week before watson makes up his mind...but if we're seriously interested we should get him up and show him around - nobody can compete with our facilities, and he's already put us on his shortlist once....

i say; let's go for it....

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet
The #Saints and #Panthers have made offers for #Texans QB Deshaun Watson and are likely to meet with him soon, sources tell me and
@TomPelissero Other teams also are involved. Watson has a no-trade clause and wants to meet with teams before formally waiving it anywhere.

Ian Rapoport@RapSheet
Notes:
1. Yes, the #Saints can fit him under the cap.
2. The #Texans will work with Watson and grant permission for him to speak with teams with real offers.
3. The #Panthers have been interested for a year and have never waivered

Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero
The #Texans are expected to grant permission for interested clubs to speak to Deshaun Watson, so this could ramp up quickly. The price hasn’t changed – three first-round picks and more – and multiple teams are willing to pay it.

.
spotrac has a 'cap manager' function on their site...i went there and traded cousins for nothing in return, i traded hunter for nothing in return, cut ham, and then cut pierce....

i ended up with +$42mm in cap space....

we redu watson's contract and get him down to $20mm/2022 and we've still got +$22mm...pick up a center, guard, and CB in free agency and we're set on low first-year deals....

draft for need in 2022...and remember, i traded cousins and hunter for nothing - we can get something for them....

i don't see it as impossible, or even improbable, or problematic....

just do it....
