zimmer played such a soft prevent defense at the end of each half last season that one can't even consider the quality of our defense with normal metrics...plus zimmer keeping breeland in - danzler out, and his game management - zimmer was just psycho last season...i really think he lost his mind...if zimmer wasn't fired i can't imagine where we'd be right now....last year was like watching a nervous breakdown in slow motion - week by week.....

it's impossible to accurately analyze last year's team - zimmer never gave the offense or defense any chance to win....

.

Zimmer was on a fence for me until the loss at Detroit. We gave a previously winless team their first win.

and all they had to do was keep them out of the endzone.

With Jared Goff at QB. You know the immobile Statue that wilts under pressure?

And they let them walk right down the field with no attempt to put pressure on Goff and ridiculously soft coverage. There was ONE play on the drive where they sent a blitz at Goff and he nearly threw a pick to seal the game....what did we do right after that play...right back to rushing three and giving a five yard cushion. I have never played football, never coached a game, but even I knew just how ****ing dumb that shit was.

Zimmer lost me right there. I couldn't wait for him to be gone at that point.

And after he was fired we start hearing about how he wasn't communicating with the GM. Started to realize he didn't like to give rookies a chance outside of the first round. and then you hear from a veteran like Erik Kendricks that it was hard to always play in fear... I honestly wonder why Wyatt Davis couldn't sniff the field, and why Mond couldn't get even that one start.

Zimmer sounds to me like dementia has started to set in.

I am glad he is gone.

I am hopeful for the new regime,

and I am very excited about where we might go with new energetic and open minded coaching.

+1
I also know he didn't like young assistants and to develop coaches as well as players.....just looking at Chilly a couple of coaches came from that pos tree. Denny had a bunch of coaches move to HC positions.

Zimmer's shortcomings as a HC are to numerous to list.

As are the Wilf Bros. One would think they would have learned the first time they had to eat the full brunt of a HC contract.

Just the part of him where he thought he could add coaches kids and have a competent coaching staff was just so absurd and arrogant.

Everyone except Patterson (I believe) took a lesser position on other staffs. Patterson was an glorified Asst HC but really the Dline Coach. If you count the title Patterson too.

We'll probably never find out.

But Zim not playing rookies is so out of touch. Rookie contracts are golden and you need to take advantage of them. Esp CB's. His system must have been so F'ed up it'd take a rookie 3 yrs to figure it out then they'd walk.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/13/2022 10:16:34 AM)

All rookies will be in camp. YES.

Today marks the start of the Minnesota Vikings’ first rookie mini-camp of the offseason, and they now have a majority of their 2022 draft class under contract.

In addition to first-round pick Lewis Cine, who signed his contract on Wednesday, the Vikings have agreed to terms with five more of their picks. They have agreed to terms with

DE Esezi Otomewo
RB Ty Chandler
OT Vederian Lowe
WR Jalen Nailor
TE Nick Muse
The Vikings’ other four draft choices. . .CB Andrew Booth Jr., OL Ed Ingram, LB Brian Asamoah, and CB Akayleb Evans. . .have not yet agreed to terms and will be participating in this weekend’s mini-camp under an injury protection agreement.

Following this weekend’s rookie mini-camp, the team will have three different sets of Organized Team Activities over the next few weeks.

16, 17, and 19 May
23, 24, and 26 May
31 May - 3 June
After that, the team’s Mandatory Mini-Camp will take place from 7-9 June, and that will be pretty much it until Training Camp starts in late July.

While the Organized Team Activities are not mandatory, it’s hard to imagine a lot of players will be skipping them with a new coach and a new system being installed. They might not get 100% attendance at all of the sessions, but a vast majority of players are going to be there.

We play in LONDON in week four and don't get the bye in week 5. Bears at home jet lagged....Not liking that one little bit.

With that London game we were either going to get our bye week in week 5 which is way too early or we were going to have to play jet lagged. I'm good with playing jet lagged considering it's the Bears at home and I believe we will win.

Summary: He is currently rehabbing but should be ready for training camp for sure and maybe even mini-camp. He should be fine going forward with no residual effects.

Easily the most frustrating thing for me about the team is that we know so VERY LITTLE about it. We know how it functions within the extremely limited vision of Mike Zimmer and that's it. I wouldn't dare make a prediction on wins and losses for this coming year. Will O'Connell recognize the urgency of the opposing offense in the last two minutes of halves and scheme accordingly as opposed to Grandpa Grumpy who just assumed they'd run into the pile a couple of times and head in for halftime? Definitely. How much will that alone improve the team's results? I have no idea. How about the likelihood that the culture in the building isn't constantly freezing out our own kicker? There's dozens of these things. Yet we also have a brand new coach. Maybe he'll mess up some things that were running correctly.

I predict our win total to be somewhere between 6 and 15 - and I'm not solidly confident on that.

Zimmer's shortcomings as a HC are to numerous to list.

As are the Wilf Bros. One would think they would have learned the first time they had to eat the full brunt of a HC contract.

extending Zimmer and Speilman was a bizarre move. No point to it at all.

and imagine, if he had won that game against Detroit and made the playoffs as #7 - he might still be our coach....

hmmm ... if he was losing it as much as we all think i wonder if thatd be enough to keep him around ...

- i almost feel bad for turning on him but not so much when I think he went way beyond what is acceptable regarding the tough guy act ...

zimmer lost it - he melted down every game...but to think that spielman didn't communicate with him for months is just remarkable...i wonder what the real story is?...that's why spielman lost his job, too....

We'll probably never find out.

But Zim not playing rookies is so out of touch. Rookie contracts are golden and you need to take advantage of them. Esp CB's. His system must have been so F'ed up it'd take a rookie 3 yrs to figure it out then they'd walk.

- Grampa Grumpy ... ha ha! I personally don't mind knowing much about this team at all - kind of refreshing not worrying about it. Last year I thought we had a great team and the year was a total dud

- not playing rookies ... I don't know, might have even frustrated me a little when Grant did it but in 2021??? Come on!

- re: to think that spielman didn't communicate with him for months is just remarkable ... it is, and it sounds like we're putting this all on Zimmer -- but hey, if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck ....

- imagine, if he had won that game against Detroit ... still hard to imagine we didn't

- extending Zimmer and Speilman was a bizarre move. ... sure seems like it now

- Zimmer's shortcomings as a HC are to numerous to list ... I believe you
