But to Todd's point, I too thought we'd be contenders - I even put $10 on 'em to have the best record in the NFL - more of a "hoping for a miracle" than anything, but still ...

We had to get better, right? It's not like we aged out bc of one more year. Lots of variables do come in to play but I bellieve losing a key guy or two and Zimmer held us back big time.

We got this! ;)

I think our starting group will be stronger this year....ZED, Hicks, and our Slot CB will be better. RG with Ingram or either of the 2 FA will be better. Off Playcalling is bound to be better. Center is still a big question mark. Roster depth is way better now also. The rookies (CB, S, and LB) will bring better reaction speed.

TE---I think our FB will act as a 2nd TE basically.

I love that we'll get an early look at what kind of team we're going to be.

Rolling up for a road MNF game.
Rolling into London.

It's been a while since we've gotten off to a fast start. One this year will be setting the day dreaming off big time.

Aside from the W...I'm looking for a certain energy. Preparedness. Clean execution.

Wouldn't mind picking up another big fatty NT. Eddie Goldberg maybe?

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/10/2022 8:13:41 AM)

I don't care if it's over shooting our mark bc we're supposed to be a middling team maybe fighting for a wild card spot.

Let's figure out how to build it to stay at the top ONE time after the sun shines on our ass.

I thought Brett had paid this back?

The Mississippi Department of Human Services has named Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre in a lawsuit seeking to recoup roughly $24 million in misspent welfare funds intended to combat poverty in one of the nation's poorest states.

The lawsuit filed on Monday seeks $3.2 million combined from Favre and Favre Enterprises, Inc. Favre is one of 38 defendants in the lawsuit that also names former pro wrestlers Brett and Ted DiBiase and their father Ted DiBiase Sr. aka "The Million Dollar Man."

Interest to the tune of 225,000 is what I read

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/10/2022 1:11:24 PM)

With regards to the team and how we do, who knows. What I'm excited about is getting back to being aggressive on both sides of the ball. What drove me insane about Zimmer's teams was how he was so passive. The few times we did come out aggressive we would look dominant. Then he'd go back in to his shell and the other teams would creep back in to it. It was so damn frustrating.

Exactly.

This is why I think Coaching alone will make this team quite a bit better this year.

Here's a writer that's picking the Vikings to win the division:

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-playoff-predictions-for-2022-season-picking-every-afc-nfc-division-winner-and-wild-card-teams/

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/10/2022 3:53:10 PM)

"North – Vikings: I believe Green Bay's best window to win a Super Bowl has passed. Not buying the WR group. Getting long in the tooth in critical areas. Have lost some recently dominant players like Z'Darius Smith. Too many wasted or overly cure draft picks from recent years holding back roster development. The Vikings will have entirely different vibe with Mike Zimmer gone. They still have enough talent on defense – especially up front – to be dangerous and the offense will be a problem. First year head coach and GM aren't under real pressure yet. Team will play hard. You can get this around +300 it seems."

Ricky J -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/10/2022 6:55:03 PM)

The defense should be much better than what we saw last year - no brainer

But I'm looking forward to an offense with an offensive-minded coach. I never heard Cousins say one negative word about Zimmer - maybe I missed it - but I'll bet there is no one on the team more happy to have a new coach than him.

This is the best sports related thing I have seen since the Jimmy Valvano Don't give up speech. It's really that good.

Richard Sherman interviewing Lewis Cine. Have to skip forward to 23:40.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oUYvwtohSA
They talk for 27 minutes and it's all great.

Lewis asks for advice and Richard gives him incredible good advice. I'm so impressed.

Guy got his bell rung way too many times.

No kidding. We don't even have the best secondary in the division.

Using PFF (or as I prefer, pffft!) which is barely accurate …

Last year our secondary was ranked #25, we dropped our two lowest performing players (Breeland, Alexander) and added our first two draft picks. We also added Sullivan but he's barely rated higher than Alexander. We are returning Peterson and Dantzler who is up and down (but actually rates higher than Peterson in pff). At Safety, Harry is rated #2 by pff (over-rated but still top 12 IMO) and we lost Woods who was barely ok ... with Bynum looking good in a very small sample size.

The Bears were ranked #23 and look very similar to us ...

they have a starting CB (Johnson 64.5) similarly ranked to Peterson's 63, although he is an improving 3rd yr player compared to our ancient-of-days. They also drafted a CB (Gordon) and S (Brisker) with their first two picks (2nd rd). I prefer our two picks (if Booth gets and stays healthy). Like Bynum, they have a couple of small sample size players (Burns, Graham) that look good (according to pff) so depth is probably too close to call. Their Safeties are rated #27 (Gipson) and #23 (Jackson) so we clearly have them there. I believe we have an edge but not by much (on paper).

The Packers were ranked #13 in the league and look better than us ...

That ranking was without their best CB most of the year (Alexander who is ranked as elite by pff) ... they should have him back. Their rookie starter Stokes played well by the end of the year, ranking in the top 10 CBs after week 12. Their other starter Douglas who signed mid-year played much better than expected and will also be back. Their Safeties are Amos (#9) and Savage (#18) ... who, in my uninformed opinion, are easily better than us unless Bynum or Cine shoot out of the gate at a really high level.

... that said, ranking secondaries in a vacuum doesn't mean a whole lot unless you take pass rush into account and we have a chance to be really good there.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/11/2022 1:24:25 PM)

Is Christian Ponder available ? I think he would be a better backup than Mannion.

Update on Kyle Sloter: His last game he threw 2 nice TDs, but fumbled at the goal line (supposedly), and was stripped sacked the end zone, leading to his teams' first loss.

I do believe that getting rid of Alexander and Breeland is a good thing plus signing a top 10 slot corner from GB is a good thing.....but I wouldn't put us in top 10 until we see how good Cine, Booth and Evans (maybe even Bynym) cover, how the new defense works, and how the pass rush is.

Lots of variables.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mannion is cut....leaving Mond and Stanley on the practice squad.

zimmer played such a soft prevent defense at the end of each half last season that one can't even consider the quality of our defense with normal metrics...plus zimmer keeping breeland in - danzler out, and his game management - zimmer was just psycho last season...i really think he lost his mind...if zimmer wasn't fired i can't imagine where we'd be right now....last year was like watching a nervous breakdown in slow motion - week by week.....

it's impossible to accurately analyze last year's team - zimmer never gave the offense or defense any chance to win....

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/12/2022 9:17:56 AM)

I am excited to see what an offensive coach can do with Cousins.

Zimmer when crazy old man, get off my lawn, I am too bitter to do what is correct last season.

My only real complaint is extending Cousins, I would have preferred they bit the bullet in terms of salary cap and let him play out his final year.

kgdabom -> RE: General Vikes Talk (5/12/2022 9:36:57 AM)

Vikings have now signed their first pick of the draft Lewis Cine and their last pick of the draft Nick Muse. Rookie Minicamp starts tomorrow.
