What I'm looking forward to:

1. 21st century offense
2. Competent game planning
3. Competent game/clock management
4. Aggressive defense in the last 2 minutes of each half.

The one thing I always admired about Bellicek was his game planning. He will target what the opposing team doesn't do well. Sounds simple and obvious but it is surprising how many coaches don't seem to do this. ie. Zim trying to establish the run against the Bears when they're entire starting secondary was out with the covid.

With the first wave of dust settling, I think they did an ok/mediocre/average job addressing LB/Edge, as well as the secondary... on paper at least. The DL is another story, and really is a mystery, but there doesn't seem to be top tier talent anywhere on the DL even on paper. Big hopes for Phillips, but I think Tomlinson will be the D's version of Bradbury although it's not his fault. Occupy two blockers? Fantasy. Any decent solo blocker can handle him which frees up another OL. Currently, Watts is a DE project.

It remains to be seen how often they will line up in the 3-4, which is a good CYA excuse for now.

Phillips has some pretty good film at NT against the run while at Buf.

Being things are slow, I might login to a Bills forum and get the skinny on what they thought of him.

I wasn't very impressed with Tomlinson last season but PFF (for what it's worth) seemed to really like him.

Yes but isn't Tomlinson the current NT? I hope/believe Phillips can anchor a DE position.

Not to mention a string of new acquisitions that are "three years younger" than whoever they replace as the regime strives for an overall age of 23 by 2023.

We have great depth on the DL in Phillips, Tomlinson, and Watts. We just need three starters.

That about sums it up in a nutshell.

Between the ‘Chester the molester: years played > quality delivered’ crowd and the ‘has not played well as a back-up therefore oozes with starter potential under our newbie coaching staff’ crowd …

we continue our blazing offseason. If one-legged Zad can compensate for the loss of Barr Vigil Pierce Richardson Woods etc … (we were 3-4 with Hunter last year so please dont include him or any reached for draft picks to legitimize the defense … yet) … we may just raise the bar to a marginal standard.

If ‘hope is the thing with feathers’, we’re a plucked chicken.

I don’t know what that means but it sounds negative so I’m going with it.

I'm positively oozing with positivity. Z and Hunter will play 17 games each this season, our draft picks will contribute year one, the OL will be greatly improved and Kirk will have an MVP season. Championship all the way.

We can agree on you oozing ... but that's about it.

:) I can understand this position. You can be right if they suck, odds probably are with you, and historically it's been demonstrated often enough that's it's pretty easy to just say, "Im gonna have to eat some crow on this one" if youre wrong ;)

WTF! The odds are with me? You make it sound like I want the team to go up in flames.

You are confusing me with someone who values their football opinion more than the success of this team.

I am neither a negative person nor have I been historically negative in here. Far from it ... I have tried hard to maintain a balanced view of both the good and bad.

Yes, I have been struggling the last two-three years to find something to be optimistic about in here ... but even then I sometimes make fun of my own negativity ... or didn't you catch that vibe in my post above?

- wow, I see you posted this almost an hour after I deleted it. Huh?

edit: part of the whole idea was my recalling with some level of fascination the people that have posted "I have to eat crow here ...." the last 25 years or so on these sites.

Also, I don't think you can really recall one time I've attacked you, can you?

LOL, I too saw where he sat on your deleted post!

You habitually post then delete the post... on average, how long do you leave your posts untouched? I routinely hear about people in Twitter deleting their tweets. You were years ahead of that MO!

TBF, I was in recovery for quite awhile but fell off the wagon. I have a lot of quirks

Sloter on why the Vikings went with Mannion:

I like Sloter's confidence, he should be given a chance.

I didn't click on the link. Was his answer "because Speilman and Zimmer are incompetent"

Possibly meant it indirectly. But mostly Mannion being the better classroom helper to Cousins.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/6/2022 9:43:24 AM)

Mannion on this roster while Zimmer and RS are in charge seemed like a "RS and Zimmer had not clue" type decision so it was easy to dismiss. If the new guys also see this as a need for Cousins that should be a giant red flag on Counsins. Dude is far from a rookie so if he needs help in the classroom still [:-]

Very much agree Jeff

Beside, I easily count EIGHT coaches who have some influence on the passing portion of the offense: https://www.vikings.com/team/coaches-roster/

It's doubtful Mannion will get a word in edgewise.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/6/2022 10:44:16 AM)

I hope the Vikings give Sloter another chance, and believe with the current Vikings' team, Sloter could play a Nick Fole's role, and lead the team to a Super Bowl victory.

To me what we saw in preseason didn't lie. Sloter has the ability to lead an effective NFL offense IMO.

Its no lie, Sloter can compete with third-fourth stringers and rookies who will never be more than special teamers.

The Vikings twice, Cardinals, Lions, Bears, Raiders ... signed and dumped.

It has nothing to do with opportunity or anybody else, its all on Sloter.

edit: and Denver ...

Clearly the playbook needs to be dumbed down for Sloter. He does well when he can just cowboy it at a back yard pickup game.

You know ... that is absolutely true! To hell with mannion tutors ... Sloter is exactly the guy we need in Cousins' ear before games ...

If Cousins was forced to ad-lib an entire game his head would spin Linda Blair style [ https://giphy.com/explore/exorcist-head-spin ] but clean off his neck.

I will at least give Sloter credit for trying to claw his way back to the NFL.

Are you saying the New Orleans Breakers offense is dumbed down for Sloter, and that is why he is doing so well there ?

I think the Vikings should once again feel fortunate other NFL teams have given up on Sloter, and sign him. He could be the next Nick Foles.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (6/6/2022 10:11:23 PM)

No. The whole league is “dumbed down”.
