There's a couple things I'd love to see. Often. 1...taking a deep shot immediately after a turn over and 2...going for it on 4th on the other teams side of the field instead of a pooch punt or long FG...even if we're up 2 or more scores.

I have not been a fan of KC, but I think he COULD win a SB, and I expect no less than 10 regular season wins this year.

I will count Smith and Hunter as D Line and there is no possible way a D Line with Smith, Hunter and Phillips could be average. I also see no possible way that group has a weakness against the run.

My mistake, I thought a 3-4, meant the 3 were called the DL, the 4 the LBers.

So is it then a 5 man line ?

You were right. They're considered OLBs.

At it's base, its a 3 man line, but often either one of the OLBs will also line up on the LoS making it look more like a 4-3.

You were right. They're considered OLBs.

At it's base, its a 3 man line, but often either one of the OLBs will also line up on the LoS making it look more like a 4-3.

I think the easiest way to look at it is as a front seven. I think our front seven will be elite.

Anyone know why the game isn’t being shown on NFL network? Their website says it’s Tuesday at 1200 AM but FUBO doesn’t show it at all.

I see it showing 1:00 am so 3rd of 4 games at the 7pm time slot.

I think some of you are setting yourselves up for disappointment if you think this defense will be elite.

We've been fielding about a 27th ranked defense the last couple years. Elite is top 5. I think reaching a 15th ranking would be more realistic.

15th is much more realistic than top 5, but I can easily see this defense as top 10. All that would take is Hunter and Smith playing all year. Top 5 is possible if everything falls into place.

I’m getting to old for that crap.

Zim coached like an absolute coward I will not miss watching that crap either.

It shouldn't be too difficult for this defense to jump 10-15 spots up this season by merely not crawling into a shell the last 2 minutes of each half.
That was damned frustrating to watch.

I don't think the defense will be in the top 15, more around 20.

DL is very average (maybe even BELOW average), LBers are good, but Smith is susceptible to the run, and Hunter may be as well. The inside LBers, and 2ndary may have to make up ground there.

2ndary will run lots of zone, so it will probably be mediocre at best.

It may be fun if the offense can get leads, pass rush should be strong.

But I thought the same thing 30 some years ago. Imagine the number of sacks Millard/Doleman/Thomas/Noga would have had if that team had gotten off to more fast starts.

Instead, teams found ways to run on them, usually after Doleman left a big run lane.

In 2021, once we had Pierce back, I thought the Pierce/Tomlinson/Hunter/Griffen D-line would be stout and fearsome. But, teams ran right through that D-line and our LBs had to try and salvage a 4-5 yard gain, which usually meant a 5-7 yard gain on 1st down. I look at our line now and I have that same optimism but, can't fool me twice, I'd expect to see some struggles stopping the run, at least in the early go until they gel more as a team and trust each other to know their job. Maybe having a simpler scheme will pay dividends but I still expect confusion as teams game plan to our inexperience. I do like the front 7 a lot though, there is a lot of talent there and I think they'll gel pretty fast.

It's really the secondary I worry most about. Harrison and Peterson are blessings considering the youth we have back there. They have a tough task to get the youngins playing fast and keeping the bleeding down while learning the D. Cine and Boothe provide some hope and I think Dantzler will shine more in this player friendly environment. That Chandon guy might be worrisome but I can't believe he can be worse than Alexander was last year (please no).

I'd love to start fast and then build on an evolving game plan, gotta start the season with hope. Tonight will be a decent gage of how we're faring in the trenches and what the secondary is looking like. Vanilla or not, I'm excited to see less 3 TE sets and more WRs in the game too, that makes me smile.

This year it’s Tomlinson, Phillips, hunter, and Z smith plus lynch or watts and depth at both DL and OLB. And grandpa won’t be there to hold them back. I’m not saying elite D I’m saying elite OLB and DL. The five.
