A couple questions for anyone who watched the game.

How did CB Evans look? I see he had a lot of tackles and one TFL. Was he getting tackles because he was getting burnt or did he look good?

Is TY McGill going to make Final 53? Two nice games in a row.

Surratt actually had some stats. How did he look?

It's a rarity, but I agree with Souhan's article in todays Strib.
If all you are going to do is play the 2nd and 3rd stringers why bother with any pre-season games.

Vikings vs. 49ers proves NFL preseason is a joke.

I agree 18 games and 2 bye weeks but I'm not in with each player having to sit one game.

Imagine buying a ticket for the Rolling Stones, and having Mick Jagger and Keith Richards stay behind the curtain while the winners of a karaoke contest performed. That's what the NFL is selling you, if you are enough of a sucker to believe they care about entertaining you in August.

Got a chuckle out of that

David F. -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 10:00:06 AM)

In defense of the nfl, they’ve greatly reduced the ticket price of the preseason games.

At this point in their careers, karaoke winners might give a better show.

Booth Jr apparently rolled an ankle. Wasn’t wearing a boot after the game. Good news as it look more serious than that.

Feels we might be doing this a lot.

And, unless you're a season ticket holder don't watch.
Also, it's a time where a lot of kids get to go to games where they wouldnt otherwise
Im no big defender of preseason that stuff just came to me - but im sure my kids have seen a few more games than they would have paying Vikes, Boys ticket prices

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 11:25:22 AM)

Ham could be on his way out according to a couple articles I read this morning. Ham rarely got any reps in joint practices this week with the niners. Rams did not roster a FB last season.

All this seems a bit strange. KOC talked like Ham was going to be a vital cog in a 2 back offense. Perhaps he didn't want to show this but it's not like it is some new wrinkle the NFL has never seen.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 6:07:53 PM)

I wish the Vikings had a good backup QB, but offhand I don't know the backup QBs of the last ?? SB winners ?

Rams, Bucs, Chiefs ?

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 6:25:12 PM)

If Ham is on his way out I think it'll be BC of Ty Chandler. He might be our 2nd best back right now. They're not going to keep 4 RB's and a FB. I'm not even sure 4 makes sense.

Value wise I actually think we get more out of Ham than Nwangwu if say everyone's healthy. Maybe NWang to PS?

Didn't Kene have 2 kickoff return TDs last year?

I see Mattison as the odd man out.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 7:29:34 PM)

Would you let Matty go for a 3rd? I'd want a 2nd but that might be a bit much.

Chandler flashed in the return gone...imma stick with KN to the PS.

Mattison is on the last year of his contract... and a RB.

I'd be ecstatic with a 2nd... but I can't see it... I'd be pretty happy with a 3rd.

I think someone grabs Kene if you try to stash him.
I think he can contribute with Cook and the kid.

I thought Evans looked very good for this stage. He missed a tackle in space by not wrapping up and there may have been some gaffes in coverage, but he made a lot of tough tackles, was good as a gunner, and seemed very engaged.

I think T.Y. McGill definitely makes the 53 because no one else has emerged and he's so active.

Unlikely they get better than a 6th for Mattison.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 8:51:14 PM)

If Cook went down and we wanted to add a RB of Mattison's skill...we getting him for a 6th? Come on.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/21/2022 8:58:47 PM)

I hope we can get the CB group as deep as the WR & RB ones seem to be.

Didn't we just possibly get one in the fifth? RBs are not highly valued because they're highly replaceable. It's possible a desperate team gives a fourth or fifth, but Mattison is not THAT good. He's solid; that's it. There's a lot of solid guys around.

Exactly why I would NEVER draft a rb in the first 2 rounds.

Ham is way overpaid…save $2mm if we cut him - and he makes more money next season….

11 personnel base set spreads the defense….

Use the money for a qb2…some are talking bridgewater….

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/22/2022 8:44:18 AM)

Sounds like KOC wants a better backup QB:

https://heavy.com/sports/minnesota-vikings/kevin-oconnell-kellen-mond-nfl-news/

stfrank -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/22/2022 8:52:48 AM)

The Vikings have to look outside the organization for a backup QB, since they don't have any NFL caliber QB's on the roster other than Cousins.
I don't understand how they thought they could start training camp with no viable options at backup QB.....

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/22/2022 9:19:02 AM)

Raiders are sending QB Nick Mullens to us for a 7th.

Problem solved.
