It went from 2 weeks out to a whole season.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2022 4:06:31 PM)

So most likely it'll be an injury settlement and then he'll be released.

They want to give him a chance to catch on to another team.

This is crazy, but true. Chandler is a rookie and Mattison begins his 4th year in the league. Mattison born 6/29/1998, Chandler born 5/12/98. Mattison is also younger than Kene Nwangwu (2/9/98).

That really is amazing.

ty chandler played five seasons in college....

Last offseason the Patriots got a 2023 fourth-round pick to go with the 2022 sixth-rounder for Sony Michel entering the final year of his deal.

I would think we'd get less for Mattison as he isn't as proven:

Michel: 3 years, 38 games, 28 starts: 535 carries, 2292 yards (4.3 Y/A), 14 TDs. 26 receptions, 258 yards (9.9 Y/R), 1 Ts.

Mattison: 3 years, 42 games, 6 starts: 330 carries, 1387 yards (4.2 Y/A), 6 TDs. 32 receptions, 228 yards (7.9 Y/R), 2 TDs.

Might be better off letting him go to FA, see what we can get as recompensation picks

We'll be lucky to get a 6th unless Cook misses half the season:

The factors that go into calculating compensatory selections are the player’s average annual salary, playing time, and postseason honors. Salary is the main factor, with playing time having the second-most weight, and postseason awards the final component.

But those are all future considerations earned with the new team.

I think a 4th round pick is reasonable both ways. If any team pays it you know they intend to make him their featured back.

I think *maybe* a conditional 4th could be offered. No way a 3.

He doesn't have enough history to command that, plus he'll be a FA after the year and has already expressed that he wants to be a RB1, so he's not going to be a cheap re-sign.

If another team sees him as a RB1 which I certainly think he can be they would possibly offer the 3rd. However, I'm ok with settling for a 4th.

bohumm -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2022 7:26:54 PM)

Nobody in the NFL sees Mattison as a lead RB. He's nice, but not remotely special.

We’re all in this season…I say a 3rd, or we stand pat with mattison….

We know cook is going to miss 2-4 games, and we should keep a power runner….

I think I'd take a fourth, probably, but I doubt it will be offered unless someone is a little desperate or they haven't watched a lot of Mattison.

A 3rd we can convert to a 2nd, and the 2nd round is the sweet spot round….

Cine, booth, Ingram , and asamoah - all picked around the sweet spot….

Yeah I don't the see the 3-4th rounder conversation either. A back-up RB?

He's very solid in all areas which separates him from the huge pile of one trick pony / serviceable types ... but ... he's a backup RB.

He's one half of a rotation on any team without an elite RB.

Take a 5th and a veteran IOL on the bubble.

How’s that Strib projection of the final 53 working out, Rick.

I said no, to your question, because I Know better than to try and out guess a new coach and GM based on 1 draft and three crappy Preseason games, and I am a curmudgeon…

Well, i figured it was one of those reasons ;/
And i get it. Am i supposed to know if they are keeping 4 rb, 6 wr?
The only play ive seen so far this year was an incredible punt that i hope gets repeated a few times. And im assuming this guy held for an unrecognized team record 58 yd fg.

confirm, he was holding

I know you guys are very busy covering every possible pick we could get for our back-up running back but if you could take a second to confirm whether 66 is the holder or not Id appreciate it - I can't tell if Doc knows the answer to this question or not

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/29/2022 10:52:51 PM)

I checked the ESPN game log for the Denver game it confirms Wide Wright was the holder for all the kicks. If you want to know the other games you're free to look at the game logs for those games.

Is R. Wright #66? If so, then confirmed, he was holding.

I agree that 3rd round picks are great - and 2nd rounders are even better.

We’re not getting either for Mattison.

Mattison is a perfectly cromulent running back, but he hasn’t shown he’s a starter - and he’s a FA after the season. I really would be surprised if we got better than a 5th that conditionally could turn into a 4th.

My guess is we keep him and let him walk after the season and potentially collect our 6th round compensatory pick.

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (8/30/2022 3:00:25 AM)

He is cromulent. I got overly eager to flip a pick due to our fortunous depth but you're probably right. Theyll play it safe sitting on it.
