Some QBs you just can’t give the ball back to.

Unreal.

Viking Rich -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/27/2021 3:43:28 AM)

Gotta give Zimmer some credit on the halftime adjustments on defense. Nice to shut the Seahens out in the 2nd half.

Also, kudos to the play of the Offensive Line. I can't remember the last time they actually made a real difference in the game. Gave Kirk time in the pocket, and wore Seattle down in the 4th quarter.

Jefferson was A MAN today and just dominated whenever they needed a big play. Cousins was throwing lasers today.

Damn happy to see them get the win. They can turn this thing around if they keep this up.

Go Vikings!

Rob Viking -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/27/2021 8:02:26 AM)

Great performance. The DLine was able to feast with the crowd behind them. There's no reason this line shouldn't dominate with the talent up front.

If the Vikes were 3-0 you'd hear Kirk for MVP talks. Is there a QB playing better than him at the moment? He's in total command of the offense right now.

On to the Brownies next week.

Tom Sykes -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/27/2021 8:24:26 AM)

Mike Zimmer: "I told the team that it's the best offensive performance that I've seen in the eight years that I've been here."

Well, ofcourse ... we did it without having to throw it downfield much. They were 3-8 on third down, we were 9-14 – so not only did we play zimmer ball to a tee, we denied them their game.

Despite Mike Zimmer lauding the good offensive showing, #Vikings QB Kirk Cousins said they still need to do better in the red zone. He said they settled too much for field goals and that might come back to bite them.

Thank you Kirk. Playing great, keeping the fire hot. Zimmer may be prancing around the golden offensive efficiency calf in religious ecstasy ... but Seattle's defense is a shambles ... we will need to maximize our scoring opportunities against better teams, not just our time of possession.

That last FG pissed me off. When Mattison got the first down at the 5, I knew what was going to happen...two runs that would come up short and a half assed designed pass play. Sure enough, Mattison comes up short, a baffling handoff to Ham loses and the receiver screen to Thielen that never works, didn't work.

That sequence was one of only two negatives in the second half. Honestly, I don't know why they continue to throw screens to Thielen. He just isn't good at them. That last one was the more successful of the two that they threw him yesterday because it didn't lose yardage.

The other negative was the receiver getting 10 yards behind our secondary on the Hail Mary pass. Luckily the throw was late and Harrison Smith got away with a blatant pass interference.

That’s how I followed it too.

Overall, I’m encouraged that the playcalling has been pretty solid for having to operate within such a tightly reined approach.

Maybe with some more OL improvement we’ll get bolder.

Don't bet on it. When Cook is healthy and back in the lineup it will be more of the same old run, run, run mentality.
They can have 8 in the box we will still try to run at it.....

No ... I would not bet on it. Zimmer is what he is.

However, I will say - - with the mildest optimism possible because its only 3 games with two losses and one win which doesn't buy anything - - AND its still Zimmer's team and philosophy AND its still Spielman's regime AND, you know, its still the Vikings ... a QB playing better than anything we've seen since 2009 (including 2017), some improvement from the OL (not sure how much yet), improvement at the TE and #3 WR positions ... on top of Cook JJ Thielen ...

At least there's an opportunity for a more balanced attack on offense ...

At least we still have a long way to go, it was beginning to feel like we had already jumped off the precipice.

My hope yesterday was that the loss of Cook would force them to run something more resembling a modern offense. That actually happened. Now I hope that a light goes on and Zim considers the possibility of yesterday's offense with Cook in the backfield. More likely it will back ground and pound.

I was also screaming at the TV, throw the damn ball in the end zone. First and goal and you have a chance to put the dagger in and we get Ham up the middle on 2nd down. If you're going to run that stupid wide reciever screen, run it with JJ. I would like to know the real story with Danzler. Griffin makes a huge difference on the defensive line. The guy can still get after the QB. I was also surprised Harry didn't get called for PI on the hale Mary, He had no idea where the ball was, but he knew it was coming. Great play though.

Dantzler is weak on run support and Breeland is a vet. Dantzler will get time he just had near zero pt the first 3 weeks. It isn't all about Breeland either, Alexander is getting all nickel reps and Boyd is also ahead of him on the depth chart:

Vikes have the talent to be a wildcard team. The only way they win the division is if someone knocks out Aaron Rodgers.
