ORIGINAL: Tom Sykes Mike Zimmer: "I told the team that it's the best offensive performance that I've seen in the eight years that I've been here." Well, ofcourse ... we did it without having to throw it downfield much. They were 3-8 on third down, we were 9-14 – so not only did we play zimmer ball to a tee, we denied them their game. Chris Tomasson @christomasson ·12h Despite Mike Zimmer lauding the good offensive showing, #Vikings QB Kirk Cousins said they still need to do better in the red zone. He said they settled too much for field goals and that might come back to bite them. Thank you Kirk. Playing great, keeping the fire hot. Zimmer may be prancing around the golden offensive efficiency calf in religious ecstasy ... but Seattle's defense is a shambles ... we will need to maximize our scoring opportunities against better teams, not just our time of possession. That last FG pissed me off. When Mattison got the first down at the 5, I knew what was going to happen...two runs that would come up short and a half assed designed pass play. Sure enough, Mattison comes up short, a baffling handoff to Ham loses and the receiver screen to Thielen that never works, didn't work. Nice to get a win but it's hard to argue with that .... That sequence was one of only two negatives in the second half. Honestly, I don't know why they continue to throw screens to Thielen. He just isn't good at them. That last one was the more successful of the two that they threw him yesterday because it didn't lose yardage. The other negative was the receiver getting 10 yards behind our secondary on the Hail Mary pass. Luckily the throw was late and Harrison Smith got away with a blatant pass interference. Thielen's strengths are superior route running and great hands to catch the ball. Running after the catch is not his strong suit. So they should never design a play where it is dependent on him to run after the catch. Sideline routes, Endzone, first down throws TO THE STICKS all great to use Theilen for. Little dump passes and screens and end arounds, not a good a idea.
