It also helps that our roster no longer depends on numerous players in the over 35 club to log huge minutes. We have some young depth players that can pitch in to keep guys fresh as well.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/21/2022 9:16:22 AM)

Yep. We've got an excellent pipeline to fill out a roster when someone has an injury or needs to be a healthy scratch.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/21/2022 10:00:02 PM)

Nice win. Controlled that one start to finish.

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/21/2022 10:48:02 PM)

I was SO hoping for a shutout for Kaapo, but what an excellent game all around. Now do it again tomorrow night.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 7:11:52 AM)

I had a real good time watching the Wild take it to the Blackhawks last night. [:D]
I know they are in rebuilding mode, but we still owe them a few more good beat downs like last night and I hope we get to see another one tonight.
Spurgeon should be back tonight, so it will be interesting to see if Adison sits or Benn does. Both have been good recently and Adison just keeps gaining confidence and playing better.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 3:42:28 PM)

Ok, admittedly, I’ve not watched Fleury much. How is a guy that gets chased every other time we play him be a lock for the HOF? 😀 worst nickname in sports too

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 5:38:42 PM)

I think Fleury makes it on longevity as much as he does on his actual record. He sure hasn't faired well against the Wild over the years that's for sure. I seem to remember him winning some Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh, but that was as much Crosby as him in my opinion.

Addison sits for Benn after Addy was on fire last night.
Bad call Dean.

Kaapo keeping us viable after super flat 1st by Wild

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 9:02:51 PM)

Blackhawks threw their best at us the 1st period and we started out slow. I expect a better 2nd period out of the Wild for sure. That PP goal at the end helped get us right back in the game.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 10:46:34 PM)

Another 6 on 5 goal late to get this game into OT. I hope we can pull out the win in 3 on 3 again too. Blackhawks playing a much tougher game tonight than what we saw last night.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 10:57:06 PM)

And Foligno scores the game winner in OT. One hell of a finish to a very good game. We sure play a lot better 3 on 3 game this season with some younger, faster guys on the ice.

kevinemmer -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 11:12:15 PM)

MOOSE!!!!!!!! [:)][:'(]

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/22/2022 11:57:17 PM)

Marc Andre Flery may be out of a starting job. That goalie for the Blackhawks was on fire. The Wild threw everything at him and he showed up big. Once again, though, we came from behind and got the two points. Whew.

kevinemmer -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/23/2022 7:24:44 AM)

That was another great finish.

I really liked Kirill’s Superman dive onto the pile of Hawks who had Ekker
down at the bottom.

Now if we can play the PP with the same level of urgency as 6 on 5,
We will be very dangerous.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/23/2022 7:33:06 AM)

Russo's lead in to his column on the Athletic says it all.

Saturday nights don’t get more perfect in Minnesota.

The Wild put an exclamation point on Hockey Day Minnesota with yet another dramatic victory, and the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl aspirations were destroyed.

Yeap. I use to stare and wonder ‘WTH?’ when we use to trot out Milli, Zach and Suter. Just made no sense.

I was thinking about the difference between the 2 and it seems like when we are 6 on 5 we are constantly moving and weaving around making us hard to cover. On our PP we are mostly stationed in certain spots and just passing back and forth with little movement unless a pass is off or we mishandle the pass. Last night we scored 2 on the PP and I think it was mainly due to having Ekker back in front raising havoc with the goalie and D. We really do need to get the PP going in order to be a complete team.

Insider: NHL midseason report: Grades, MVPs, players who need reset for all 32 teams

Minnesota Wild

Midseason MVP: Kirill Kaprizov

There was a moment around the eighth game of the season when Kirill Kaprizov hadn't scored a goal and people started to wonder how he'd follow up his stellar rookie season. He has scored 17 of them since that point, adding 30 assists to total 47 points in 36 games to lead the Wild. His shooting percentage (12.9%) is down a bit from last season, but Kirill is still The Thrill.

Player who needs a reset: Cam Talbot

The Wild's No. 1 netminder (24 games) has a 15-8-1 record, but that's more about the team in front of him than his own play. Talbot has a .909 save percentage and has played barely above replacement level this season. Backup Kaapo Kahkonen (.922 save percentage) has been the better of the two.

Overall grade: A

The Wild have a .689 points percentage, second only to the mighty Avalanche in the Central Division. They're getting strong seasons from players like Mats Zuccarello (36 points), Ryan Hartman (18 goals) and Alex Goligoski, who has quietly put together a comeback offensive season (2.2 points per 60 minutes) as a 36-year-old free-agent addition. Once again, their goaltending has let down the team defense in front of it, but the Wild have made up for it with a top-five offense this season. A real contender in the West.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/24/2022 5:59:49 PM)

KK is the easy pick for MVP but I would argue Hartman has been just as valuable, if not more.

Another argument could be made for Moose.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/24/2022 7:34:24 PM)

They're on the money about Talbot. I'm still shocked he made the all star game.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/25/2022 7:13:26 AM)

Not much to say about last night. The Wild took a last place team and kicked six kinds of dog manure out of them. SMF pointed out that Pitlick looks like the Canadiens best player.

Talbot tweaked his "lower body" injury and didn't play the 3rd.

What the hell was with 6'3" 227 lb Josh Anderson trying to start a fight with 5'9" 166 lb Jared Spurgeon?

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/25/2022 7:41:19 AM)

A great showing for the 4th line and nice to see Dewar get his first NHL goal.
What ever happened to the hot shot Caufield? I was expecting to see him play, but not there.....Covid list maybe?
Habs got real chippy and decided since they couldn't play hockey with us they may as well try to fight us......

Lynn G. -> RE: Wild 2021/2022 Season (1/25/2022 8:53:05 AM)

Even though games that come down to the last minute or overtime have a high level of excitement, it was nice, for a change, to have a game that seemed like a sure thing pretty early on. Less holding of one's breath, fewer "dammits" being shouted, less coaching from the couch. Ahhh, nice 2 points and didn't have to give the other team a point to get there. [:D]

I read the Canadiens were mad about a slash by Spurgeon and they were looking to pick a fight thereafter.
