i have heard is suggested that the Vikings are just a leverage interview...

Miami is the job Harbaugh wants, and Ross didn't want to be the first person to try to lure him away from his alma mater

If Jim Harbaugh becomes the coach, I may have to consider rooting for a different team moving forward. Can't stand the guy. A hiring of Harbaugh would be a sign that our new GM doesn't know how to check the temperature in the room. Harbaugh is a Michigan guy. Nobody hates a Michigan guy any more than a Gopher fan base.

In addition, Harbaugh is one of the guys that almost never lasts more than five years anywhere he goes. Partly because everyone within any organization hates him within 12 months. He rubs people the wrong way the same way Lane Kiffin rubs people the wrong way.

Harbaugh is a non-starter for me. I'd hire Kiffin before Harbaugh.

I agree with this. Although IMO Zimmer is a cheap copy of Harbaugh, not the other way around – so the the coaching would be much better ... there's that. But the 'culture of collaboration' speak we have been getting would just come off as more corporate blather for the masses.

I think you have to trust Kwesi here.

So he spent a lot of his press conference talking about culture, collaboration and complimentary attitude.
He spent time with SFO when Harbaugh was there.
He is either way over his head, or he knows what truly went down and Harbaugh as a coach.
I'm not too worried. Baalke was way over his head.
I'll trust Kwesi on this one.

I'd be surprised. Ross is one of the worst owners in the NFL

Harbaugh just seems like a Midwest guy to me.
I think he'd love the chance to beat Chicago 2 times a year, since they had no interest in reaching out to him.

I've heard that the GA game, made Harbaugh realize that MI will never be able to recruit like a GA or AL and wants back in the pros desperately.

I hate Jim Harbaugh.

I think he’d be the best choice for coach if he’s available.

I can easily put aside my dislike of his personality if the Vikings achieve greatness under him. Yes even though the over/under on his tenure here would be about 3-4 seasons. I still don’t care. That’s about the average tenure of a coach anyway. Good or bad. The ones who become fixtures are very few.

Bring him on.

Arlowe84 -> RE: Our New Head Coach (1/30/2022 11:58:44 AM)

I'm sure Kwesi and the Wilfs understand Harbaugh will likely have a very short shelf life.
But if you told them he can win multiple divisions and make you a legitimate Super Bowl contender, they'd take that trade.
I don't like him either, but the guy is good, especially on the NFL level

NFL coaches win a super bowl early or not at all

Very few exceptions. The new GM bring a analytics guy knows this.

Everyone hates Harbaugh after 12 months.

Everything I read is he's a players coach and they go to battle for him.

Maybe some stops seen some tight ass uppers 'hate' but I'm not buying the narrative he wears out his welcome or loses the locker room.

Being a players' coach at the collegiate level and being a players' coach at the professional lever are two completely different things.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Our New Head Coach (1/30/2022 12:19:34 PM)

The main question with Harbaugh would be, would he even come here anyway? That interview is probably just as much Harbaugh interviewing the Vikings as the other way around. If he doesn’t hear what he wants to hear he wouldn’t come. It’s not like he’sa desperate man.

Why, specifically, do you like Jim Harbaugh? Coaching style? Is he a good X's and O's guy? The only innovative thing I ever saw him do was let Colin Kaepernick run wild for a year. 12 months later, Harbaugh missed the playoffs and his tenure in SF was done.

Read again. I very much dislike Harbaugh personality wise. But i think he has the best chance for instant success. So I’ll take him, even for a short tumultuous run.

Track record mainly. A young hot coordinator flavor of the week might work out, but might be a disaster. Head coaching is a whole additional skill set.

Gophers haven't been good enough to hate Michigan the way Ohio State does. OSU hates them more. Not even close. Remember, most of Viking fandom embraced Brett Favre when he took us to the NFC championship game.

I'm still waiting for any of you to point to a football quality about him that is likable or enticing.

Brad H -> RE: Our New Head Coach (1/30/2022 3:38:08 PM)

Just my opinion, but I believe Harbaugh will be the coach of the Dolphins by Monday and it will all be a moot point.

Todd M -> RE: Our New Head Coach (1/30/2022 3:43:28 PM)

For Harbaugh -- at every stop he's made -- the conversation about what to run during any given situation involves everyone.

Fisch, offensive coordinator Tim Drevno, running backs coach Tyrone Wheatley, tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh. Everyone.

On the outside, this may sound like too many voices chattering at once. But, apparently, Harbaugh and Drevno (who has been with him for 10 years) have organized and perfected their system for years.

"We all work together, and it's been an awesome deal," Fisch says. "Coach Harbaugh, coach Drevno, myself and our whole offensive staff. It's a situation where we get to give great input regarding our area, so to speak.

"It's a great dynamic

No, that's not true at all. Michigan hasn't been all that relevant to Gophers fans since the Big Ten split into two conferences.
