At least he sort of made up for it with Z and Hock.

Evans might be decent, and Ingram might be fine by the end of the year, or if they switch him to LG during the off-season.

It's not really making up for it though, is it?

I mean, you're allowed to be good at both drafting and free agency.

Hence, the "sort of" qualifier.

Sort of

Might
If

He is a walking qualifier.

How about the draft results to date have been sort of horrendously bad.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/29/2022 9:29:42 AM)

A rational person wouldn't suggest you "sort of" make up for a draft that will likely produce next to nothing after one season because the GM got lucky with a player coming off an injury and used more draft capital for an acquisition in a trade (I like the trade but Hock's ypc are way down as he is averaging about 7.5 ypc... another story).

Edit:

For those of you like me that do not listen to KFAN regularly (anymore) I found this Kirk Cousins interview with Paul Allen and Pete Bercich via YouTube good enough to pass on. Approx 14m

I know a bunch of you catch the Boone "Trenches" videos...

seeing the film break downs is so much fun

This one starts at about 45 min in...

there is a great Bradbury clip at 1 hr

fun to see how much Kirk is actually still growing...I think KOC and this offense has been great for him!

And JJ just continues to ruin defenses, whether he gets the ball or not

I still think it would be a good idea to move Ingram to LG, it may save his career, and I did say DURING THE OFF-SEASON.

So far this draft sucks, getting some good FAs may have saved Kwesi's job, or at least allows him to stay in Minnesota longer.

If you're honest, you'll just admit that it may help you save face.

Next offseason is going to be interesting ... wonder if we'll sit flat like last offseason and just squeeze more victories out of Spielman/Zimmer's team like so much toothpaste.

Maybe we can sign back all of Spielman's last draft class ... given a fair chance and a year to regroup, they may develop into more than Kwesi's nugatory first attempt.

Which makes me wonder ... did we mostly keep the same scouting / personnel people from Spielman or did Kwesi import his own?

Belay that ... found this astounding:

"The Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday announced the promotions of Ryan Monnens and Jamaal Stephenson as Co-Directors of Player Personnel, as well as other changes within the personnel department. Monnens and Stephenson have forged a strong bond while working together for two-plus decades in various roles for the Vikings personnel department. Together they will oversee all college and pro scouting operations and personnel decisions.

[They both will oversee all college and pro scouting operations and personnel decisions]

Dated June 22, 2022 (after this year's draft)

...........

Zowie!

More 'collaboration glue' for Kwesi's staff.

Now ... before any of you militant, over-zealous optimists complain about my complaining ...

all I can say is ... imagine this 2022 team with the addition of a functional draft class, much less a strong one.

I thought we saved Cleveland's career by moving him from RG to LG.

Anyone remember McLeod Bethel-Thompson?

He was the winning QB for the Toronto Argonauts that just won the Grey Cup.

Go Former Vikings!!!

Are you saying you're astounded that the GM isn't the one overseeing player personnel/scouting? Coming in, Kwesi's experience in this area was limited.

Ingram---way better than Dozier. Lots of work to do in Pass Pro; but a very good run blocker.
Evans---would be starting if not injured.

2 starters; first year.

1 Starter is a UDFA (Punter).

Not all that bad and time yet to improve.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/29/2022 1:45:20 PM)

How low is the bar when you're hanging your hat on your punter?

Really? Geez. Yeah, let's bake in muscle memory with Cleveland and Ingram THEN move them.

He's stated that at least three times.

As for Ingram, sometimes the need is so bad that a late rounder will get thrown into the job. That player will struggle, and in a year or two be replaced.

But wow for Phil, huge kudos to Kwesi that a second round pick is starting. And sucking.

Look back in history for bad Viking drafts; way too early on this one.

Where in the post was I hanging my hat on a punter?

Many forget how bad Dozier is/was.
Evans will start the next game. I remember the same being said about Rhodes his rookie year.

Many would still be waiting for Jamison's first game if it was up to them.

ratoppenheimer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/29/2022 3:56:09 PM)

.
.
In an interview with the Pioneer Press, Cine answered that with conviction.

“Next season, for sure. That’s for sure. … Nothing is going to keep me from playing next season, so I’ll do what I got to do in rehab and come back.”

Anytime anyone questions the draft, you bring up the punter.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (11/29/2022 4:42:13 PM)

I thought we saved Cleveland's career by moving him from RG to LG.

That is a good point Mark, he was a LT in college, so that side might feel more natural for him as well. It may also help to have Darrisaw off to your left, instead of Bradbury.

But I think now that Cleveland has more experience, he might be able to switch to RG and be just as good, while it could make Ingram MUCH better to switch to LG.

I am going along with some of you, in saying this should be done during the off-season, not now.
