zero respect..3 point underdogs

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2023 10:55:30 PM)

The Vikings are 3 point favorites, sounds about right.

This is going to be a VERY tough game to win. The Giants know what they're up against, the Vikings won't have O'Neill this time, and I am guessing most people will pick the Vikings.

I think it's on KOC to win this one, will need to outsmart Daboll once again in the 4th quarter, or sooner.

Mark Rapley -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2023 10:58:54 PM)

IT's always great seeing the Packers lose! Wish we could've done it earlier but I think we can beat NYG. Wish we could get Seattle though.

HL OSWALD -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/8/2023 11:04:14 PM)

Do we know what network and announcers will carry the Giants @ Vikes game?

And what set of refs do we get?

edit---

NFC: 4:30 PM (ET) 6 New York Giants at 3 Minnesota (FOX, FOX Deportes)

Why did the commentator call the Packers the King of the NFLs' castle ?

The Lion Kings ?

The ViKINGS are Kings of the North.

That's it? That you rejoicing?

I think that SF lucked out; Lions would have given them all they wanted even though Seattle is a division opponent.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 8:35:51 AM)

Alright, by all rights we won't have to hear anything more about the woulda, coulda, shoulda never-were packers! Not that a person who shall remain nameless has been deterred before. Watch the glory day praise ramp up.

Although a few days of slamming Rodgers sounds wonderful! The drama queen has already started his offseason of attention getting with his dumb but carefully scripted comments last night.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 8:52:53 AM)

“At some point the carousel comes to a stop and it’s time to get off, and I think you kind of know when that is,” Rodgers said. “And that’s what needs to be contemplated. Is it time? Also, what’s the organization doing? That’s part of it as well. But the competitive fire is always going to be there. I don’t think that ever goes away.”

[&:][&:][&:]

It would be fun for the brass there to finally get a spine and say "We finally woke up and effective immediately our new policy is 100% buy-in from every player. If you cannot fully commit to this team, then let's tear up your contract and GTFO. By the way, players need to play and stop worrying about what the organization is doing. We really hate ending yet another season with yet another interception."

Drama Queen is not walking away from that obscene contract.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 8:54:19 AM)

Collinsworth masturbating over the Packers was nauseating.

That fumble close to sideline, "That packer new the rule and was dragging his foot out of bounds will trying to touch the ball, he new the nuance of the rule in that moment".

Or maybe he was just trying to dive on the ball.

the execs at NFL did all they could to get Packers in with scheduling their game after Seattle to try and kill Lions motivation.

Collingsworth is the worst slobberer. The only time he temporarily shuts up is when the packers turn over the ball.

Since the NFL runs on network money, they definitely have a say in scheduling. Hence all the 'flex' crap. They were giddy over a SF-GB matchup, only to see it dashed.

They key is that 1) if Rodgers would have worked harder in the summer with the rookies, 2) they would not have dug themselves such a big hole if he was top notch early 3) His contract was the reason Adams didn't get paid and they couldn't keep ZED.

The buy in was there for FO....they gave him a contract....never is his fault.

Once they get into their upper 30s they don't want to be there all spring and summer....we saw the same thing with Brady--he wasn't sharp early. We can say the same thing with Kirk 2021.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 9:08:22 AM)

Rodgers screwed over the Packers by not going the extra mile working with the young receivers in the off-season.

Basically he threw away this past season. Hosing the entire team and fan base.

Yep x 2.

He was too busy with Joe Rogan podcasts. Good. Great. I hope he spends even more time with non-football activities. Then again, his time away certainly didn't help him rejuvenate.

Great. His dead cap for 2023 is $99.7 million. He won't walk away from that nor the attention he gets. Let him be the proverbial sad old athlete who didn't know when to quit.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 9:24:53 AM)

Reed at C.

The only thing I saw was that the line calls still took a lot longer at times and that is when we had a couple delay of game issues.
The snaps and protection seemed better even though it wasn't Chicago's top line.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 9:30:02 AM)

I think Packers will be good next year with Rodgers. The receivers now have experience. Rodgers just wasted an entire year because he didn’t want to put work in.

You really see it with Rookie WR. Nailor looks really good with Mullens due to the reps they have put in.

Duke Shelley finishes the regular season with the third-best coverage grade among all CBs, behind only Sauce Gardner and Patrick Surtain.

Shelley did not allow a touchdown all season and recorded 10 pass breakups — 4th-most in the NFL — despite starting just five games.

Fun year!

These dont come around too often, so, I have been just enjoying it

I dont think we quite have the horses to finish the job, but there were years where we did, but still couldnt finish

so, lets just get hot for 4 games, have some bounces go our way, and see what happens.

SKOL!

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/9/2023 10:08:47 AM)

My $0.02 and other thoughts:

Good win. Even while playing back-ups for half of the game - with something still to play for.

Reed played much better vs. being thrown into the fire. Udoh was decent as well.

Dalvin needs to hold on to the ****ing ball.

Return of Irv was meh.

DL played well and stood up well against their run game.

Nice we were able to rest a bunch of guys.

No clue what the future holds this year - it was great to be on the winning side of those close games, rather than losing most of them.

Loved DET going in and beating GB.

I'm not sold on GB being good next year. Rodgers has like 22 straight games with less than 300 yards passing. That's not a fluke. And he eats up a lot of cap space.

LeFluer blows. The idiocy of his team at crucial moments last night speaks volumes to the culture there. **** GB.

Smallest Viking Duke Shelley keeps making big plays
JANUARY 7, 2023 — 4:43PM
La Velle E. Neal III

Short people rock. Comedian Kevin Hart is 5-foot-4. Our beloved Prince was 5-2, sans the platform shoes. St. Paul superhero Suni Lee is 5-foot-nothing. They are among the little stars who have done big things.

Cornerback Duke Shelley is the Vikings' shortest player at 5-8 — not an ideal height in a league full of big receivers. He is also the lightest player on the roster, at 183 pounds. But those are just numbers. Shelley is a small guy making huge plays, a featherweight who's becoming a heavy hitter for the Vikings secondary.

How did they get this guy? He was cut a few months ago by the Bears, Sunday's opponent.

Shelley returns to Soldier Field on Sunday a wanted man, by the Purple. His overall defensive rating of 76.8, per Pro Football Focus, is 14th among cornerbacks. Patrick Peterson is ranked seventh, as the Vikings are the only team with two corners ranked in the top 14.

Shelley had a 83.9 PFF rating in the historic comeback win against the Colts and has stepped up when teammates Cameron Dantzler and Akayleb Evans have been ineffective or injured. Dantzler was activated off injured reserve a month ago, while Evans, because of concussions, remains on IR. But Shelley has taken advantage of the opportunity to get his career back on track.

He had a big pass breakup in the end zone in overtime during the Vikings' thrilling victory over the Bills on Nov. 13, and then broke up another end zone pass Thanksgiving night in a victory over the Patriots. Even during the Vikings' 41-17 beatdown by the Packers on Sunday, Shelley broke up a pass and didn't have a completion against him.

His career was at stake. If you can't play for a Bears team that is one of the worst in football, who can you play for? But Shelley, a fourth-year player out of Kansas State, has forced his way up the Vikings depth chart.

It's not clear who will play on Sunday for the Vikings, or how much the starters play, in a game with little at stake. It might resemble a preseason game by the fourth quarter as the Vikings likely will pull starters to make sure they are available for the playoffs. But you can bet that Shelley will get some snaps against the team that released him during its final round of cuts.

Six days later, the Vikings signed Shelley to their practice squad. They elevated him to the active roster twice before signing him to the active roster for good on Nov. 12.

He gets to show the Bears what they are missing on Sunday as the Vikings seek to end the regular season strong and propel themselves into the postseason.

Shelley has stabilized the cornerback spot opposite of the savvy veteran Peterson, playing at least 60 snaps in each of the last three weeks. The Vikings defense remains suspect as it enters Sunday ranked 31st in yards allowed. The lack of a consistent pass rush is a big reason, as opposing quarterbacks get time to go through their progressions before gashing the Vikings secondary. Shelley hasn't been perfect, as opponents have connected on 19 passes on 36 targets in his direction, but their passer rating on throws in his area is just 72.6.

YaQuis Bertron "Duke" Shelley Jr. has made himself a keeper with a relentless and fearless style that allows him to stick to receivers and defend passes. The talk about him coming out of college was that his slight build would make him nothing more than a slot corner. He's proven to be more than that, as he wins battles against wideouts with height and catch radius advantages.

Shelley finds ways to keep the ball out of their hands with technique and tenacity. He will get beat at times, but not because of backing down from a challenge. Teammate Jordan Hicks has said that Shelley plays "bigger than he is tall."

Dantzler's career is at a crossroads. Evans made some splash plays before concussions derailed his season. Shelley, a 6-1 player in a 5-8 frame, stepped into the breach and now looks like someone the Vikings can count on.

Truth be told, I didn't see the passion from Rodgers this season.
