I don't get bringing back Bradbury. Why?

He just flat out isn't any good. I'm flat out sick of watching this crap IOL get abused over and over again.

Our IOL could not block the NYG DL in the WC game. Can you imagine what Philly's dline would have done to them?

Until this franchise seriously addresses the trenches we will be pretenders.

I don’t like it, either. But, hopefully they draft someone like a Schmitz or Avila to take over when they are ready. Our biggest weaknesses are at IOL and IDL. It doesn’t take a football expert to figure that out.

Sadly, the regime just finalized the OL so the point is moot.

The biggest hole on this team is by far CB.

Followed closely by the DL. Tomlinson was our best guy and even he was only average. But w/o him in the lineup this defense really got trucked in the trenches.

I don't agree with that...With Tomlinson out Tonga and Phillips held up. Running QBs, Receiving RBs, and crossing patterns were our weakness......Scheme, LB, and not enough speed.

You’re right, Tom. I think they will draft the best corner available at 23. I think a better play is to build up the offensive and defensive lines and worry about the skill positions next year. But, that’s just me.

You can build up the defensive line all you want. If you don't have corners, your defense is going to be awful.

Murphy is a start.

With the Murphy signing, does that make DL the area of greatest need ? ILBer ?

What about the Duke ?

It means we have about nine more positions on defense that need upgrades.

Phil Riewer -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 8:30:59 AM)

Imagine 3rd and 5.
With 8-9 men in the Box that Flores likes to use can you imagine Zed playing LB and Hunter/Davenport/Jones/Otonmu being on the line and Shelley/Murphy playing tight coverage?

Maybe they are keeping Zed and Smith.

The DLine is set. #1 CB is set. Poor post.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 8:33:44 AM)

With Bradbury, the special teamers, and Murphy, guessing we are over the cap so today could be interesting in terms of announced outright releases, renegotiations, etc.

On offense, Reed or Cook are suspects for release (Cook trade?).

On defense, wow. The Smith Bros? Hicks? I hope they keep any dead cap in 2023.

Hope they sign Mattison and Shelley.

The DLine is set. #1 CB is set. Poor post.

It was one of the worst defenses in the league last season. We lost the only two guys that were worth a damned last year.

Byron Murphy could be good, but he can't cover everybody.

LMAO, signing the blocking TE first with his whopping $3.75 million 2023 cap hit to help the 26th ranked running game (ypc) is a real stick in your craw.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 8:46:20 AM)

How nice would it be to have a kicker we can rely on? What's it been, like seven years since Blair Walsh choked? It seems like we have never solved the riddle ever since.

Kendricks wasn't good in covering RB/Crossing routes and Pete wasn't great in press coverage. They have Murphy #1 in coverage from what I saw.

The rookie LB last year has speed and so does Murphy....like I said your math doesn't add up.

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 8:48:06 AM)

I wouldn't spend a penny on LB's or Safeties. Draft them and thank them after the rookie contract is over, somebody dumb enough to give you a high draft pick for one you have, thank them also.

Cornerbacks and DL is where it's at.

Safeties lost they value when headhunting and blowing receivers up with massive hits became a penalty.

Nobody is a RB, Linebacker, or Safety away from anything.

It's not a running league. The Chiefs were only #20 in yards-per-game.

The top two running teams in the league last season, Chicago and Atlanta. If that's what you wish for, have at it.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 8:53:46 AM)

Thinking Ham and Wonnum will be released/waived as well. Jones can do what Wonnum does.

Paradoxically, LB/Edge could be their biggest need but they will release Za and Wonnum for cap reasons.

Just like last year not a fan of lightweight ILBs, especially Asamoah and Dye.

The Chiefs.... here we go [&o] Yeah, every team has a Mahomes. What's next? Brady was a 6th round pick so there is hope?

Oh, I can also cherry pick rushing stats... Eagles and 49ers 5th and 7th... Texans 30th, TB 31st.

Without a pass rush, any corner will be beaten eventually. Pressuring the QB is #1 priority. You can do it with studs, with scheme, or a combination. Hopefully Flores will bring the scheme, but another stud, particularly on the interior DL would go a long way too.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 9:05:28 AM)

So the MONEY is definitely going to the defense but yeah let's bitch about the guy making $3.75 million this season and bitch about (earlier) the sequence of the signings [:-]

$13 million for a year of Davenport, who had 0.5 sacks last year? Not a peep.

Not sure if you've noticed, but it's kind of a passing league at this point. But, keep trying to spin the signing as vital.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/15/2023 9:11:04 AM)

I think we are just starting to see the beginnings of the annual amnesia from Vikings fans. It's been two months since the last game. The memories are starting to fade, and it's week 10 of the winter bowling league. It won't be long now and someone will have Josh Oliver scoring the winning TD in the Super Bowl. He's the new Jim Kleinenkugels.

They already reworked Reed’s deal, so he staying, for now.

We signed Byron Murphy. The Dolphins traded for Jalen Ramsey.

Thank you Kirk Cousins.

What does Cousins have to do with it? His cap hit has been dropped to $20M. Ramsey was acquired for a player and a 3rd round pick. Do the Vikings even have a 3rd round pick to trade at this point?

But it's not the year 2050 where there is no running game. $3.5 million this year for a blocking TE really has you going.

You'll use that as a reason we either don't make the playoffs or get bumped early. You heard it here first.

And we are entering the period of the season where some posters, not necessarily fans, are mere caricatures of themselves.
