The Vikings have had a lot of success in various ways over the years, but these are Minnesota things that NFL fans laugh at:

Jim Marshall running the wrong way for an opponent TD.

The Herschel Walker 'trade'.

Losing a draft slot by not getting the card in on time.

Add in: Giving a 100% guaranteed contract to a never-was, then extending it with... another 100% guaranteed contract.

Stop your venting.

We're the franchise that understands that you don't need excellence at the QB position, a good defense will make your QB better. And championships will follow.

In theory. In spite of having some great defenses.

Lay off Kwesi as well.

He doesn't just kick the can down the road ... he kicks them in bunches and with such style ...

My bad. I forgot we did win championships in the two years we had top 10 defenses with glorious Cousins.

Queasy sometimes looks good, sometimes not so much: https://youtu.be/TFeUrC2gR30

I don't know what this is going to look like but I think it'll look better with Lamar.

The approach to lose the next 34 regular season games to try and improve is inconceivable to me. I can't imagine staying fan if that's the strategy

It is weird....when you start tanking it seems you can't quit losing. I don't think Kwesi and KOC are that type; if you wanted to tank you don't hire those 2 last year.

After a 13-4 year we should have hired Les Steckel back apparently.

I don't get the pro-tanking theory either (which seems new to this board as of this of-season). There's not only the youneverknow factor, but also do you trust this team to pick the right QB? We flail in high pick OLs--Khalil, Bradbury even McKinnie--which should be the easiest position to evaluate: can you pull up trees and get in the way?

You are aware there is a new front office aren't you? Really weird you'd bring up past OL picks from the Spielman era. Of course we don't know much about how Queasy will do with his picks either. Year 1 is at best an incomplete.

If you are good with an occasional playoff appearance with a quick exit, good for you. Some of us want better. The best chance to get to the top is by getting a great young QB. You generally don't get those drafting 23rd. I won't enjoy the experience of being bad, but if we come out stronger for it I'm willing to pay the price. KC isn't a superbowl QB, but he's good enough to win you 7-13 games most years. Just good enough to be stuck in the middle of mediocrity.

That being said, it's pretty clear that the Wilf's are content with being competitive. We'll see if Queasy and KOC are content with that or are brave enough to really blow it up like CHI did.

Hi, Bstinger. I don't know to what extent the front office was changed out. Someone a while back (Bill J?) posted multi year draft and it was horrendous. To me, it showed systemic, entrenched incompetence. Probably an indictment of everything down to the scouting. Don't know how much turnover there was when KAM took over.
His 1st draft was hide-yo-eyes bad, imo, even without the injuries.
We all want better and I agree that basically means drafting a great QB. Chances are better with lower picks, but tanking...? Thanks for the reply.

Better be a lower number per year.

I agree...an okay team with a QB that might be able to win it all is better than an okay team with a QB that absolutely cannot win it all - and makes boneheaded mistakes because he doesn't think like a winning QB....

even if it costs more money and some prime draft picks....

just do it....

The Vikings were able to fit DE Marcus Davenport and his $6.2M cap hit under the cap yesterday by officially processing S Harrison Smith’s restructured contract. Smith’s new deal shaved $7.3M off of his prior cap number, with Minnesota hovering around $2M in cap space now.

more cap space:

we've still got an o'neill restructure/extension....

dalvin cook....

i think we're keeping z'smith....

i'd see what justin houston wants - maybe we could sign him for $2mm/yr + bonuses - had 9.5 sacks last year - it may seem like an extreme luxury, but bringing in Houston and z'smith on 3rd down could work....

i'd like to pick up another cornerback in free agency....

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/23/2023 8:05:51 AM)

I think Cook and Smith are gone.

Hunter gets a new contract.

I wonder what we're going to do with Raegor. Is he still a reclimation project or are we going to pay him to not be here? Don't need him for punt returns now...nor want him there...and he stinks as a WR. Bad trade.

I just don't see how we could pull that off.

We have no cap space, and he wants to eat up a significant portion of the cap.

We have a big cap hit for the guy already playing his position and IIRC that guy has a NO TRADE CLAUSE.

I just don't see it happening.

If they pull it off, it will be interesting to see how.

We don't really need to completely tank 2 seasons. Just follow the Detroit Lions recipe for success.

2008 NFL Detroit Lions 0 16
2009 NFL Detroit Lions 2 14
2010 NFL Detroit Lions 6 10
2011 NFL Detroit Lions* 10 6
2012 NFL Detroit Lions 4 12
2013 NFL Detroit Lions 7 9
2014 NFL Detroit Lions* 11 5
2015 NFL Detroit Lions 7 9
2016 NFL Detroit Lions* 9 7
2017 NFL Detroit Lions 9 7
2018 NFL Detroit Lions 6 10
2019 NFL Detroit Lions 3 12 1
2020 NFL Detroit Lions 5 11
2021 NFL Detroit Lions 3 13
2022 NFL Detroit Lions 9 8
2023 NFL Detroit Lions Superbowl homeboy!

all of that is very possible....

i think that hunter has been content getting a ton of upfront cash over the last several seasons...why would he sign a deal last season that he expects to renegotiate this season?....

make raegor part of any deal that we make for cook...how the hell did that guy get picked in front of Jefferson?....

Shelley to LV

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/23/2023 12:08:48 PM)

We didn't need him...

Duke Shelley in 2022:

-86.4 PFF Coverage Grade (3th in NFL behind Sauce & PS2)

-84.5 PFF Man Coverage Grade (2nd behind Humphrey)

-11 PBU, 1 INT

-59.6 QB Rating (6th)

Nothing to do with heart. Chances are Flores didn't want a short mid corner.

Let's see him stick and actually earn a contract north of minimum.

He earned it last season….I thought for sure we’d give him $2.5mm….

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/23/2023 5:42:44 PM)

Reportedly he signed 1 year, 1.3M.

How do you not offer that when you have ONE proven CB on the roster (who is coming off a back injury)?

Todd M -> RE: General Vikes Talk (3/23/2023 5:58:42 PM)

You trust Flores.

1.3 for 1 year doesn't exactly equal a hot commodity.
