I saved myself a lot of angst by napping through the game. As a casual fan might find themselves doing.

I'm moderately pleased but not too moved by the outcome.

Yeah very unsatisfying win. You have to be happy about looking not good but pulling it out somehow … but … we look so … not good.

Its going to be a long season.

Mediocrity, where everyone is mathematically 'alive' until week 17 and 18, the NFL's continuing wet dream.

"We were in the mix. Boy, with free agency, we can get 2-3 solid starters, plus there is the draft, plus our youngsters have more experience..."

The circle of life [&:]

yeah, being stuck in a loop is bad enough ... the loopy explanations about not being stuck in a loop ... make it real difficult sometimes.

IF you hired a poor DC, how long do you give him before firing him ?

Kicking 56 yard FG when you have a good punter. Short field made two of Detroit TDS.

Defense will be a work in progress but our best safety and cb were both out.

I don’t remember how many games it has been since we pulled out a game we shouldn’t have won. It has been the other way with Zimmer.

Just who the hell is our best CB !!!

Short field made their TDs!!!

And finally, Detroit lat last year was the last time … !!!

oh never mind.

ridiculous.

Any game observations?

So... the possible bear in the room.... JJ.

Good with the win while being a coverage magnet? Like really good with it?

2000 yards?

An upcoming Justin ratio?

Will there be a squeaky wheel gets the grease scenario?

Is he stuck between awesome vs normal coverage compared to being a non-factor vs double coverage?

The media is asking.

It really felt like once KC started involving Thielen, to complement Cook finally showing up (for awhile), you caould see what KOC was trying to do. I mean the GB game was just pitch and catch with JJ and a non-indicator,.

JJ is too talented to keep down but he definitely took a deep dive into the diva end of the pool. I'm sure he was walking around the dressing room after the GB talking with shrill helium voice. Hopefully he will reset a bit and refocus.

Booth

WHAT??

I know you love to use injuries as an excuse, but that is out there... even for you.

Booth played against GB but not against Philly or the Lions. How was the pass defense in those games?

Defense will be a work in progress as Cine, Evans, and Booth get integrated.

Booth played 0 defensive snaps and 2 ST snaps against GB.

Doesn't matter. He's our best CB.

When your best CB has never taken an nfl snap ... owie.

One other observation...

After getting frustrated with Vikes... I started flipping back and forth to the Colts/Chiefs game.

Colts receivers were not getting separation either... but Ryan was getting the ball out quickly and jamming the ball in there.

I think Kirk still has a hard time knowing when you need to start taking chances...

That being said... he got it done in the end.
Nice throw to Osbourne.

KC made a nice throw ... held the ball as long as he possibly could ... and delivered.

I doubt Osborne was his first or even second read.

Big throw.

Dalvin Cook "day to day".

More like day after day after day.

He's one of the best backs in the history of the franchise, but he can't stay on the field.

Foreman, Peterson, Smith.... Cook. Hard to rank the impact of the Bill & Ted (see what I did there?) Browns.

Terry Allen was stellar as well

Impressive thing about Allen was he came back from torn ACLs in both knees. Back when torn ACLs were tough to come back from.

Extremely tough guy! I thought he was done after the first one let alone the 2nd.

Pretty sure that was the primary read. I think it was the same play as the overthrow that KJ laid out for only they used the other side of the field.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 7:39:55 AM)

I think Irv needs a bit more time before we can determine he isn't any good. It will take probably till mid-season before he feels like himself again. The thumb injury was a bummer cuz he needed reps in TC and PS.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 7:43:53 AM)

While Cook had a decent game he just doesn't look the same. In the past he would have gone yard on a couple of those plays with wide open holes. Seems the first guy is bringing him down where that was never the case in the past. Hope he snaps out of it. Didn't like the Rhodes-like injury after he put the ball on the ground either.

IMO we have no idea how good or bad Booth is since he has not played. Its asinine to use it as an excuse for our defense.

IMO starting from their 25 or 35 or 45 is not the reason for DET scoring. Its having a mediocre defense at best. Also IMO a short field would mean less than 50 yards. At the very least, not punting / missing FGs is a different argument … regardless, it made it easier - it does not equate to the other team scoring. Unless your defense is really bad.

IMO beating DET last year as time expired (after DET scored with 37 sec) is exactly when that happened under Zimmer. Last year!

Maybe. I thought I saw him looking at Thielen initially. Good move/read by Osborne, bad coverage by defense … Osborne is showing a knack for this kind of thing.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 8:17:04 AM)

I don’t have acces to any all 22 views.

But I saw Kirk have some plays with plenty of time to read the field, then just throw it away or make some questionable throws.

I think, JMO, that he is too slow at reads..

I know at Philly he had Jefferson wide open off the line while a screen opposite JJ was set up going left.

He looked right at him..
threw the clustermuck screen pass anyway..

That is an incompetent QB …who runs what is called

Good QB’s, given time in the pocket, at a minimum try to hit a deep throw..

Ours .. throws it away or forces it into coverage of the first read ..

I’m happy that cousins pulled off a comeback..

But the rarity of that accomplishment, speaks for itself…

Most teams depend on the ability and leadership of their QB to get the job done in a close game if the chance is there..

Under this QB, Kirk Cousins, I am reduced to chanting.. don’t **** up.. don’t **** up.. throw the damn ball.. every play under 4 minutes in a close game, whether needing to seal the win or come from behind.

Not an inspiring look @ 2.3 mill per game.

Bill Jandro -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 8:26:51 AM)

As bad as our CB play was Detroit looked even worse. Between Hughes and Omynaro (or something) there was a lot of laundry. I find it hard to believe JJ wasn't open more often. He didn't help himself with a drop but I recall him getting PI's at least 3 times. Perhaps they were just mugging him at the los all game.

bstinger -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 8:33:10 AM)

I told my wife at the end of the 3rd that we'd win 28-24. We sucked in the 1st and the 3rd but did well in the 2nd and 4th.

Having the doors open really affected kicks in that direction.

Kirk shaky as heck most of the game but came through in the end.

Cook hurt again, no surprise.

Why no (or not much) motion for JJ?

Irv with another drop.

LB's seemed to have a better game.

Pass rush pretty non-existant.

Glad to be 2-1 but a lot of work to do.

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 8:33:42 AM)

If he can’t beat bump coverage at the line.. he needs to STFU about being sooooo great…

If all it takes is a close line cover/ disrupt, and a safety over the top, you are not a GOAT in the making.

Put up or Shut up, JJ.

His primary contribution right now is allowing other receivers to get single coverage and force KC to look elsewhere for yards.

Nice that you could tell from home that he's faking it. You may have a future in telemedicine.

A dude with a history of separated shoulders, not wearing a brace, is just ridiculous.

It would be like a catcher deciding he doesn’t need a cup..

You clearly haven't watched "most teams" if you think this. The reason for the obsession every team has with the QB position is because only a handful can carry their teams.

Joseph can hit from that distance and longer; there's no reason to pass on field goals there other than to go for it on 4th. A touchback, which is a likely outcome as well, or a decent return makes the net field position gain negligible. The FG was the right call both times, and will be the call in the future unless they go for it.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talk (9/26/2022 8:58:00 AM)

My $0.02:

It was a win!

Nice comeback - great pass to Osborn.

Cousins needs to trust WR more and throw into tight windows and not wait for guys to get wide open.

We need more pass rush. This 4-man rush is not getting it done.

ST are much improved (even with the FG misses).

Thielen was mugged on that play late. Don't know why the ref held the flag on that one.

Not getting enough time to clock it before half was BS.

Not much else to say. Final was about what I expected, although I thought we would have been ahead for more of the game! [&:]
