Rankings are completely useless for pro football. Unlike college, the NFL has an entire complete structure, down to the 10th level of tiebreaker, for determining the postseason schedule. Some care I guess, for whatever reason. Again, it's just another thing the media uses to fill an endless requirement for content.

The problem I see with Donatell is that he has a non-aggressive defense that, unless they give up a 4th and 26 in the playoffs, will continue to keep the team in mediocrity. Packer DCs: Donatell < Capers < Pettine < Barry

However, if someone had told me that under this new 3-4 scheme... 4 games in the team had allowed 11 points in the fourth quarter (and the Vikes would be 3-1)... I would have been pretty pumped. Run defense is soft which I expected. Pass rush, and particularly Hunter, disappear and I thought that would be the Vikes strength.

I feel like the team we've been the last few years has the Bears come in and start to look like they're figuring things out all of a sudden. Will things be different Sunday? Can we win 31-10 or something? 31 to 28 or 10 to 7 would sting. One thing it would be too many weeks in a row calling a win a win. Lol we better win [sm=scared.gif]

Not liking what I'm seeing but happy with the results. I don't think it will be sustainable. 30th in pass rush is really where this defense is lacking. Opposing offenses are chewing us up in the air. pressure is king so Grampa Ed better figure something out. If Hunter has been used mostly in coverage that is one area easily corrected.

I agree with Herbstreit’s comment in the game last night, with a shorter preseason and a lot of starters not even playing - September felt like an extended preseason … so many teams trying to find themselves. All the not plaing well because of the new system and change in roster excuses are about to evaporate. For everybody, not just us. Its great that we didnt shoot ourselves in the foot like a lot of teams (in Sept) … hoping we’ll look and play like a better team starting Sunday.

Spielman also landed our RT; problem was that he didn't do it sooner or address the inside of the line.

You do realize that Capers was with us in 2020 (when we weren't good at defense) and Pettine is Asst HC Now. Yes, it highlights the points I am making. Capers was part of the reason the defense sucked last year. Pettine had the Pack playing better than they did with Capers, but they still gave up big plays. I am afraid Donatell isn't aggressive enough for today's NFL, and will have them in mediocrity, just enough to keep his job every year, but not good enough for a deep playoff run. I am happy with the results so far with regards to the defense, but they look weak on the road.

This was pointed out going into the season; how the defense is doing end of halfs is encouraging.

That's a bit of a fascinating scenario... If Spielman had put together this line... but 2-3 years ago... would that change your opinion of him. It probably would for me. I still have a hard time swallowing the disaster of missing on 4 3rd rounders that you desperately traded into. But LT/RT are so important and it looks like RT is solid (I'm not as high on O'Neil as some) and LT looks like it could be ROCK solid. I have to give him props for that. Ultimately... I'd still want to move on from him because of Cousins... I was willing to see what the initial contract would bring the Vikes... but the extensions were terrible IMO. Early returns on Kwesi are mixed for sure... hoping the secondary picks work out long term.

Early returns on Kwesi are mixed for sure... hoping the secondary picks work out long term. we have a couple of solid tackles, nothing more...our guards are both rated #29 and beyond, and our center is at #18 in a fluke year.... we are weak in the middle, like we have been forever.... i really hope we make a trade for a solid cb with a year left on a deal before the trade deadline...I've heard Marcus Peters mentioned.... we need to draft a wr and te with our first two picks next year....
